The Birmingham Stallions haven't lost to the Michigan Panthers in five meetings since the 2024 USFL-XFL merger. Skip Holtz's squad will need to keep that perfect record intact to get back to the UFL championship game.
The Stallions and Panthers are set to meet Sunday in the 2025 USFL conference championship game. It will mark the third meeting of the season between the squads, with Birmingham winning the previous two 21-12 and 26-22, respectively.
Birmingham and Michigan were the UFL's highest-scoring offenses during the 2025 spring-league season. The Panthers averaged a league-best 24.5 points per game, while the Stallions upped their average to 24.4 points per game thanks to a 46-point outburst in their Week 10 win over the Memphis Showboats.
Quarterback play has been a big part of each squad's success. The Panthers got an MVP-level performance from Bryce Perkins when he was healthy during the season. He missed the final three games of the season due to an ankle injury, which allowed Danny Etling to thrive in his stead.
Meanwhile, the Stallions dealt with significant injury issues at quarterback, as Alex McGough and Matt Corral both endured long absences after early-season injuries. Eventually, J'Mar Smith came out of retirement to helm Holtz's squad. He thrived in three starts, completing 65% of his passes for 758 yards, six touchdowns and one interception.
While this game has the makings of a potential shootout, it's worth noting Birmingham's defense limited Michigan to two of its three lowest scoring outputs of the season. Kyahva Tezino and Bradlee Anae played significant roles in those regular-season wins, so the Stallions will rely on the star linebacker and pass rusher to once again slow down Michigan's dynamic offense.
