Nashik civic body to replace 50 diesel buses with electric ones
Nashik: To reduce air pollution, Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) approved a proposal to replace its 50 diesel buses with electric buses provided by govt. The general body of the civic body granted approval to acquire the electric buses from govt and substitute the existing diesel fleet as part of the city's pollution reduction measures. Currently, NMC operates a total of 250 buses, including 200 CNG and 50 diesel buses, through its transport wing, Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (NMPML). Govt sanctioned 50 electric buses for Nashik city and finalised a private firm to supply and operate them for NMC. The civic body is expected to sign an agreement with the designated private firm within the next two to three months. Officials said electric bus operations will commence operations once the 50 buses are received. They also said the agency must provide a bank guarantee of Rs 2.6 crore before signing the MoU for operating and managing the electric buses on city roads. The civic body aims to deploy these electric buses before the Kumbh Mela, scheduled for 2026-27. NMC officials said the operating rate for the electric buses has been finalised at Rs 71 per km payable to the agency, with the NMC receiving a subsidy of Rs 24 per km from the govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Install the Perfect Pool at Home – Start Here Backyard Pool | Search Ads Learn More Undo Consequently, it will cost the civic body Rs 45 per km to operate the 50 electric buses. At present, NMPML manages 250 city buses from two depots, Tapovan in Panchavati and Nashik Road, operating on approximately 60 different routes across the city. The transport utility also serves rural areas, including Trimbakeshwar, Dindori, Sinnar, Ozar, Saikheda, Pimpalgaon, and other locations. Additionally, the civic body is constructing an electric bus depot near Adgaon truck terminus on the city's outskirts. The depot will feature charging facilities for the electric buses, alongside parking, repair and maintenance, and other necessary amenities.

State to ensure seafarers receive permanent pension, says Sawant
Margao: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the pension scheme for Goan seafarers would be made permanent. This assurance was given during the Seafarers' Day event organised by the Goan Seamen Association of India. Sawant announced his govt's commitment to addressing the concerns of Goan seafarers. 'Seafarers are the pride of Goa, with a tradition that spans over a century,' he said. The chief minister also promised that if BJP is re-elected to office in 2027, the pension amount for seafarers would be increased by an additional thousand rupees. Goa govt, through its NRI department, provides financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month to retired seafarers and widows through the Goa seafarers welfare pension scheme. Apart from the hike in pension assurance, Sawant revealed plans to introduce skill training courses in Goa, aimed at equipping local youth with the necessary skills to pursue careers as seafarers. Sawant said the initiative will open new employment opportunities and enhance the skill set of the Goan workforce. The proposed skill training courses are expected to cover various aspects of maritime operations, ensuring that the youth are well-prepared to meet the demands of the global shipping industry. Seafarers who have dedicated 25 years of service on the high seas were honoured on the occasion, recognising their invaluable contribution to the state and the nation.
