Richards Bay FC piled more misery onto Supersport United's already troubled season with a clinical 2-0 victory at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday – a result that keeps their hopes of a top-eight finish alive with a few matches still to settle.
The win saw the KwaZulu-Natal outfit climb into eighth place, bolstered by a favourable goal difference that could see them retain that position if results go their way.
In contrast, Matsatsantsa a Pitori slumped to 15th place on the Premiership table, one point behind Cape Town City, with the threat of relegation now looming large over them.
For Richards Bay, the turnaround is significant.

After narrowly avoiding relegation through the PSL promotion play-offs last season, they not only secured their top-flight status early, but also positioned themselves for a potential top-eight finish – leapfrogging Kaizer Chiefs, who have dropped to ninth on 32 points after their goalless draw against Polokwane City.
Matsatsantsa, meanwhile, were desperate for points to avoid slipping further into the relegation zone.
Although they didn't dominate possession, the visitors were far more purposeful with the ball.
Their intent was clear as early as the 23rd minute when Wandile Ngema set up Yanela Mbuthuma, whose thunderous header flew just wide – a statement of attacking intent from the visitors.
Just over 10 minutes later, the duo linked up once more to give the visitors the lead.
This time, Ngema delivered another perfectly placed cross, finding Mbuthuma squarely in the middle of the box, and the forward made no mistake as he headed home to put his side 1-0 up in the 33rd minute.
Both sides had decent spells of possession but struggled to find a decisive edge in the final third – a reflection of their recent struggles, with both teams coming into the clash having won just once in their last five outings.
Matsatsantsa closed the first half stronger, but again failed to convert pressure into goals.
The second half followed a similar pattern – with Andre Arendse's charges pressing with determination, but failing to find the finishing touch.
Instead, it was the KZN outfit who showed greater precision and composure in key moments.
Around the hour mark, Mbuthuma turned provider, slipping a deft ball through to Thulani Gumede, who slotted home to double the lead and effectively put the result beyond doubt.
As the minutes ticked down, SuperSport grew increasingly frantic.
Bereft of ideas, their attacking play became increasingly dependent on hopeful long balls – a clear signal of a team running out of confidence and solutions.

Orlando Pirates eye AFCON U20 star Neo Rapoo

Orlando Pirates have officially approached SuperSport United to enquire about the availability of South Africa's latest teenage football sensation, Neo Rapoo. According to prominent football broadcaster and radio personality Karabo Phasha, the Soweto giants have already made contact with Rapoo's agent to explore a potential transfer. The Bucs' interest in the 19-year-old left-back comes hot on the heels of his standout performances at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Rapoo played a crucial role in helping the South African U20 squad secure the title and qualify for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile. Weeks before, Pirates reached out to his camp, setting the stage for what could be one of the most exciting transfers in the domestic market. Neo Rapoo isn't just hype, he's the real deal. Promoted to SuperSport United's senior team last season, he has made 15 appearances in all competitions in the 2024/2025 campaign. Showcasing both composure and flair on the left flank. Former SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt had already spotted his potential early on. He once remarked, 'One of the best left-backs in the country'. A prediction the young defender is quickly living up to. SuperSport United's current coach, Andre Arendse, couldn't hide his pride when speaking about Pirates target Rapoo's success at the AFCON tournament. 'Fantastic player, and I'm very happy for him. You know, we had a discussion that he's a key member of our squad. He did the job for me before he left,' Arendse said. 'It was important for him to go and realise his dreams. What he achieved in the tournament (AFCON) was fulfilling a dream, and I'm happy we played a part in that.' 'You know, we are a developing club. There's no doubt about that, and the proof is in letting players go to do bigger things. Shandre Campbell is another one who has come through the ranks. So we are very proud of that side of our club.' With Orlando Pirates making the first move, the question now is whether SuperSport United will hold onto their prized asset or let him take the next big step in his career. Will Orlando Pirates close the deal for Rapoo? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. NEW: Orlando Pirates make approach for exciting SA U20 star!

Orlando Pirates look to be moving like a team possessed before the transfer window even opens ahead of next season. Pirates will see themselves begin a new era under a new coach and also seemingly a vastly changed squad. The club are rumoured to have already reached transfer agreements with at least six players in that regard. One of those players is thought to be Richards's Bay FC left-back Nkosikhona Ndaba. But having lost two experienced players in that position, they will need more than just one signing. Pirates will see both captain Innocent Maela and long-serving star Paseka Mako depart the club at the end of the June. Maela, who saw his game time reduce more and more over the last two seasons, has a big decision to make. After saying goodbye to the Pirates fans on the field, he has reportedly been offered a role off it. The 33-year-old has yet to confirm whether he will take up that opportunity and hang up his boots, or continue playing elsewhere. Mako on the other hand, leaves the cub as a free agent and is reportedly Kaizer Chiefs -bound. Now it has been reported by Karabo Phasha of SuperSport that Pirates have made an approach for Neo Rapoo. The young left-back plays for SuperSport United and also played every game for the SA U20 side that won the U20 Afcon in Egypt last month. '𝐏𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐨 Orlando Pirates have enquired about the availability of U20 & SuperSport United LB Neo Rapoo. Pirates have already called his agent a few weeks ago about the possibilities around him.' He posted on his official X account. Pirates fans, is Rapoo the right signing to replace Maela and Mako? Russell looks forward to Twickenham roar as Bath seek end to Premiership drought

Bath and Scotland fly-half Finn Russell is relishing the unusual prospect of being a Twickenham hero in Saturday's English Premiership final against Leicester. Russell is used to being regarded as a villan by fans at the English national stadium on his international visits with Scotland. But the British and Irish Lions number 10 can expect vociferous backing from Bath's travelling army of fans this weekend as his team go in search of their first English top-flight title since 1996. Russell kicked 14 points to help Bath beat west country rivals Bristol 34-20 in the play-off semi-finals, securing their second successive final appearance. "It is always good playing in front of a sold-out stadium," said the 32-year-old playmaker. "Having your home fans there, hopefully the majority of tickets are Bath fans, that will be special. "I know the other side of playing at Twickenham. Usually when I am there, it is 70-odd thousand fans against me." Russell is determined to help Bath make amends for last season's final loss, a painful 25-21 defeat against Northampton. "I think that motivation has been there for everyone," Russell said. "After getting that final and losing it last year, it is always quite tough to come back in that next year. "But I think everyone came back in pre-season in good shape and kind of ripped in straight away." Bath, who came top of the regular-season Premiership table, are chasing a treble, having already won the European Challenge Cup and the Premiership Rugby Cup. Johann van Graan's side finished 11 points clear of second-placed Leicester and Russell called on them to secure the long-awaited title at Twickenham this weekend. "At the start of the year, the goal was to win the Premiership. We have gotten ourselves in a good spot just now to hopefully go and do that," he said. "We have almost got back to where we wanted to be and hopefully can go one step further this year."
