Prep baseball/softball roundup: Crespi's Jackson Eisenhauer throws two-hit shutout
Senior pitcher Jackson Eisenhauer of Crespi High has earned so much respect and confidence from his coach, Mike Glendenning, that he has been installed as the Celts' pitcher for Tuesday games.
'He's improved so much,' Glendenning said.
Eisenhauer's development was on display Monday in a semifinal game of the Easton baseball tournament. He struck out 10, walked two and allowed two hits in a 4-0 victory over St. Francis. Troy Miller had a first-inning RBI single for the Celts (4-0), who will play Simi Valley in Wednesday's 7 p.m. final at Birmingham.
Diego Velazquez had a two-run double.
Simi Valley 5, Chaminade 3: Danny Pina had a double, single and three RBIs to send Simi Valley (4-0) into the Easton tournament championship game.
Bell 4, Maywood CES 2: The Eagles stayed unbeaten. Jesse Anguiano had three hits and also struck out five in four innings for Bell. Gustavo Ramirez contributed two hits and two RBIs.
Bishop Alemany 5, Oaks Christian 4: Jayden Lusk hit a two-run home run for Alemany. Quentin Young hit a two-run home run for Oaks Christian.
Paloma Valley 2, Redlands East Valley 0: Jacob Melendez struck out 10 in 6 2/3 scoreless innings for Paloma Valley (4-0).
Paraclete 2, Saugus 0: Jacob Draper threw four scoreless innings for Paraclete.
Birmingham 7, Hart 3: Isaac Monterrubio had three hits and three RBIs while Zion Waddell added three hits and two RBIs to lead the Patriots. Freshman Jordan Lindsay also had three hits for Birmingham (3-1).
Cleveland 2, Culver City 1: Otis Bush allowed one hit in five innings for Cleveland.
Calabasas 7, Castaic 5: Luc Olson struck out six in in six innings for Calabasas.
Granada Hills 2, Ventura 1: Alex Schmidt homered for Granada Hills.

TORONTO — Rogers Communications has received all necessary league approvals to buy out rival Bell's 37.5 per cent stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the telecommunications company said Wednesday. Rogers announced Sept. 18 that it was buying Bell's stake in Toronto-based MLSE, which includes the NHL's Maple Leafs, NBA's Raptors, CFL's Argonauts, Major League Soccer's Toronto FC and the American Hockey League's Marlies, for $4.7 billion. Rogers said Wednesday those five leagues have signed off on the deal that would see it increase its ownership stake in the company to 75 per cent. The deal also includes the transfer of NBA TV (Canada) from Bell to Rogers, and that aspect is subject to approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Rogers' sports portfolio also includes Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays and their Rogers Centre home. MLSE chairman Larry Tanenbaum, via his holding company Kilmer Sports Inc., owns the company's other 25 per cent stake. OMERS, a Canadian pension fund, purchased a five per cent indirect stake in MLSE in the summer of 2023 through a 20 per cent direct stake in Kilmer Sports for US$400 million. Hassell hits 1st major league homer and Nationals rout Mariners 9-0
SEATTLE (AP) — Robert Hassell III had three hits and two RBIs, including his first major league home run, and James Wood also went deep as the Washington Nationals routed the Seattle Mariners 9-0 on Wednesday night. Luis García Jr. and Josh Bell launched consecutive homers to help back Trevor Williams (3-5), who tossed six splendid innings. Bell finished with three hits and Wood drove in three runs. Playing his sixth major league game, Hassell hit a solo homer in the eighth to make it 7-0. The touted rookie began the night batting .118 (2 for 17) with one RBI since making his debut last Thursday. The 23-year-old Hassell was drafted eighth overall by San Diego in 2020 and traded to Washington — along with Wood, CJ Abrams and MacKenzie Gore — for Juan Soto and Bell in a blockbuster deal at the August 2022 deadline. Williams, who had a career-low 2.03 ERA in 2024, has struggled this season and owned a 7.45 ERA in May entering this one. But the veteran right-hander needed just 77 pitches to make it through six innings while yielding only three hits — all singles — and striking out two in his best start of the year. Seattle right-hander George Kirby (0-2) encountered early trouble in his second start of the season. He gave up consecutive solo homers to García and Bell in the second. Wood connected in the fifth to make it 6-0. Key stat Wood is tied for fourth in the National League with 15 homers.
