Prayagraj: The authorities of Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) have submitted a proposal worth Rs 8 crore to install solar high mast and semi-mast lighting systems along with solar trees at the city's prominent parks, including CSA Park, Hathi Park, and Shivalaya Park (Naini), along with two electric crematoriums, Phaphamau and Chatnaag, for efficient and cost-effective illumination.
The officials of PMC conducted a survey of all four zones before sending the proposal to UPNEDA for installation of solar-generated lights and trees. Once sanctioned, the solar-generated high and semi-mast systems, along with solar trees, would help authorities minimise electricity bills every month.
Dr Sanjay Katiyar, Chief Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical) PMC, told TOI, "After carrying out a detailed survey of all zones, the department has sent a proposal to install solar high and semi-mast systems at the city's three prominent gardens, including CSA, Hathi, and Shivalaya Park.
We have also written to install the same facility at two electric crematoriums and other zonal offices."
With thousands of people visiting the three main parks of the city every day, the solar-powered high and semi-mast systems would illuminate the parks and assuredly minimise the electricity bills. For instance, the famous Shivalaya Park has become a key attraction point among visitors during Maha Kumbh and post-Maha Kumbh, and efforts are also underway to make it more grand and attractive.

High mast systems, typically with poles 40-150 feet tall, illuminate large areas, while semi-mast systems offer illumination at shorter heights. Both utilise solar panels to power LED lights, reducing reliance on the electrical grid and minimising environmental impact.
