
NI business chief pays tribute to staff after getting lifetime award: ‘Our mission is advancing human health'
Mr Armstrong oversees Almac's entire operations globally and leads the strategic direction of the business, which supports the global biopharmaceutical industry with drug development activities.
His career has spanned more than four decades since he graduated as a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1981.
He held several technical and senior management positions within the company before being appointed to the board of directors of one of its subsidiaries as chief operating officer.
Appointed CEO of Almax Group in 2002, Alan oversees the entire group's operations globally and leads the strategic direction of Almac. In 2013, he was awarded an OBE by the Queen for services to the economy in Northern Ireland.
The judging panel commented that they were 'delighted' to recognise Alan's lifetime of work in the accolade.
They said: 'His principles are second to none and he has grown Almac to such a significant global company – but stayed true to the legacy left by founder Sir Allen McClay.'
On receiving the award, Alan said it was a collective achievement, stating that it also a recognition of the company's success and growth throughout the years.
'Being nominated for this award is a tribute to Almac as a company. The company is made up of great people, who truly deserve that recognition.'
He added: 'At Almac, our mission is advancing human health. It's fulfilling to be part of developing products and compounds that will ultimately help humanity. Along the way, we're creating many jobs, and I'm proud to see people getting great opportunities and developing within the organisation.'

The award-winner said his motivation lies in driving the company's growth and creating opportunities for people across the industry.
He stated, 'There's a lot of construction and development happening within our organisation – new facilities, factories, and more. A lot of investment is going into developing the company for future growth. It's exciting to see the company grow and witness the entire fabric of the organisation evolve.'
'I love seeing the company grow. I love seeing people grow and develop within the industry – I love to see people employed. It's rewarding to see more people employed and creating more opportunities for others,' Alan added.
The CEO offered a simple message to aspiring professionals: 'Keep your feet on the ground, work hard, and enjoy the journey as you go.'

Brand Scotland – UK Government signs agreement with Scottish Chambers of Commerce
A Brand Scotland overseas trade missions initiative was signed on Friday by the Scotland Office and Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) in a partnership agreement. This collaboration will be supported by UK Government funding of up to £100,000 for 2025/26 which will help to promote Scottish trade and is aimed at attracting foreign direct investment into Scotland. Brand Scotland is part of the UK Government's Plan for Change boosting economic growth by promoting Scottish products and services while attracting international inward investment. The initiative will include a series of trade missions all designed to showcase Scottish businesses across the globe. Ian Murray and Liz Cameron signed the agreement at the UK Government's Queen Elizabeth HQ in Edinburgh. Scottish Secretary Ian Murray said: 'This agreement will help give Scotland a global platform to sell everything our brilliant country has to offer – from whisky and seafood to our world class services. 'The trio of trade deals secured by the Prime Minister in recent weeks is a huge opportunity for Scotland's economy – with the most populous country in the world, the richest country in the world and our most important market. This partnership with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce will create valuable opportunities for Scottish firms and help kickstart economic growth as part of our Plan for Change. 'I have already been to Norway, Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States to bang the drum for Scotland and with this partnership we will take businesses to even more markets. The Scotland Office will be Scotland's window to the world.' Scottish Chambers of Commerce Chief Executive and Director Dr Liz Cameron, CBE, said: 'Delivering impactful trade missions that will sell Brand Scotland and our innovative and dynamic businesses will strengthen our global presence. And today it was revealed that the CVA has been approved, with the process likely to conclude in early July 2025. He said: "The Joint Administrators (JAs) today held the meetings of creditors and members to consider the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) proposals which were based upon the offer for the club submitted by Alan Savage. "The JAs are delighted to advise that both meetings approved the CVA. "This will allow the Club to exit Administration and retain its place in League One of the Scottish Football Leagues. "The club will now operate under the CVA for a short period of time under the management of Alan and his team. "Once the final costs are determined and the relevant dividends paid to creditors then the CVA process will be brought to a close. "It is anticipated that this process will conclude in early July 2025." Kilmarnock confirm Danny Armstrong exit as 11 leave Rugby Park
Kilmarnock have confirmed that winger Danny Armstrong has left the club at the end of his contract and is one of 11 players departing after the end of the Premiership season. The attacker has been a key player at Rugby Park in recent seasons and will now look for a new club as a free agent. Armstrong has been linked with clubs in Scotland and England after showing his ability over four years in Ayrshire. New manager Stuart Kettlewell will look to revamp the squad in the summer after it was confirmed that 11 players in total would be leaving Kilmarnock. In addition to Armstrong the club announced the departure of Aidan Glavin, Kieran O'Hara, Aaron Brown, Gary Mackay-Steven, Bobby Wales, Innes Cameron, Kyle Magennis, Joe Wright, Liam Donnelly, Fraser Murray, and Kyle Vassell.
