It looks like we might have a new unsuspecting candidate for the next "internet boyfriend" — record producer, author, and Selena Gomez's fiancé, Benny Blanco.
Selena has been dating the "TiK ToK" producer since 2023. She's described their relationship as the "safest" and happiest she's ever had — however, fans haven't been so quick to embrace Benny.
That's largely because he once seemingly shaded her. His hygiene habits and personality quirks haven't exactly helped his case, either.
But people's opinions are starting to change following the couple's appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast earlier this week, specifically after hearing Benny talk about the mature way he handles conflict with Selena.
Benny admitted Selena "gets spicy sometimes," but after almost two years together, he's learned enough about her to be able to effectively diffuse an argument. "When I see something happening, it's about guiding the missile, not adding a jetpack on top of it with machine gun artillery," he said. "If I see her getting to a place where I'm like, man, in five minutes from now, this room could explode, I'm never gonna let it get to that five minutes from now. I'm gonna say, what are all the tools that I know that work for her that I've learned? Like, I'm not going to exacerbate a situation."

Benny added, "I'm gonna try to calm it down 'cause why do I want to be in that situation where we're both upset about something?" That doesn't mean he doesn't stand his ground. "I think you listen, and you say like — okay, sometimes, I'll say, 'Let's not let it get there. Let's just talk about this.'"
Noting that physical touch is also "very big" to him, Benny shared that sometimes a gentle "hand helps" in navigating tough conversations, too. "Just holding their hand while you're telling them, or giving them a hug while you're telling them and let them talk it out first and then after they talk it out be like, 'Okay well, here's what I think,' and you can work through these things together in such an easy way," he shared.
The clip quickly went viral on TikTok with over 4 million views and almost 10,000 comments praising Benny for his "emotional intelligence" and the "safe" space he and Selena have cultivated in their relationship.

A third person said, "Benny setting the bar pretty fucking high," while another pointed out, "The fact that he called it spicy instead of angry, rage etc is so telling in how he cares about how words can make her feel..."
Meanwhile, someone else said they were "blown away by his emotional intelligence," adding this is precisely why you should "never judge a book by the cover."
Another person confessed they had also prematurely judged Benny. "I always thought Benny Blanco was like a scrub," the user wrote. "I have never been so wrong before in my life. I completely judged him on his looks. He seems like an incredible partner."
People were also left swooning by several other parts of the interview, including Benny's thoughts on the importance of regular communication with your partner.
He said, "You have to talk to your partner. You have to understand them," adding that men don't "listen all the time." "Just shut the fuck up and listen," he stated. "Listen to what they're saying. A woman is gonna tell you exactly what she needs. When guys are like, 'I don't know what she wants,' she told you already. You're just an idiot. You're not listening. Just listen. If a girl is getting frustrated with you on something, she's definitely told you multiple times, and you're not listening."
Benny further discussed learning to adapt to Selena's needs and the actions he's taken to build trust in their relationship. "I always told her, I said, 'It's okay. If you have moments of doubt in something or a feeling, always talk to me, and I'll talk you through anything you may have,'" Benny shared. "I know what she needs to succeed, so I'm gonna help her succeed. I'm not gonna be a dick. I'm not gonna not hit her up. And she doesn't need a lot. She's like the easiest person in the world. But I know she wants to talk to me before she goes to bed. She wants me to say I love you. She wants me to text her if I wind up having to stay somewhere two hours late. Just a simple take out your phone, ba, ba, ba, done."
