Bordesley Green: second teen arrested over stabbing of boy, 16
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed at the weekend.West Midlands Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Pretoria Road, in the Bordesley Green area of Birmingham, at about 15:30 GMT on Saturday.Officers said they had arrested a 15-year-old boy in the early hours of Wednesday, after also charging a 16-year-old boy over the attack on Tuesday.They added that the injured boy remains in hospital in a stable condition.
The area covered by West Midlands Police has the second highest rate of knife crime in England and Wales, according to official figures released last month.This area, which includes Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton, previously had the highest rate but reported knife crime fell in the latest figures.About 200 people gathered on Pretoria Road on Sunday, a day after the Bordesley Green stabbing, to protest against knife crime.The 16-year-old boy who was charged on Tuesday faces counts of wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon, and attempted robbery.The region has seen a number of high-profile attacks involving teenagers and even children, including the death of 12-year-old Leo Ross, who was found with fatal stab wounds in the Hall Green area of Birmingham last month.A 14-year-old has appeared in court charged with Leo's murder.

Kimberley Cookson, 22, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one count of gross negligence manslaughter following the death of Noah Sibanda, who died after an incident at Dudley's Fairytales Day Nursery on December 9, 2022. Business owner Deborah Latewood, 54, appeared alongside Cookson in the dock and pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that Noah and others were not exposed to risk between November 29 and December 9, 2022. A plea of not guilty was entered on behalf of the firm which ran the now-closed nursery, based in Bourne Street, to one count of corporate manslaughter, including an alleged failure to ensure that children in the baby room were put down to sleep in a safe way, failure to ensure that staff were adequately trained to put babies down to sleep and failure to ensure staff were adequately supervised while doing so. The company also pleaded not guilty to failing to comply with a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that Noah and others were not exposed to risk between November 29 and December 9, 2022. Cookson, who wore a green shirt, and Latewood, who wore a white shirt and a grey blazer, spoke only to confirm their date of birth and to enter their pleas in front of the courtroom, which was packed with members of Noah's family and supporters of the defendants. Cookson will be sentenced upon conclusion of the trial, which is expected to last three weeks and both Cookson and Latewood were released on unconditional bail until the next hearing. Judge Chambers said: 'In your case, Kimberley Cookson, you have had the courage to plead guilty and will get the appropriate credit for that plea. I am adjourning your sentencing until the conclusion of the trial, so the judge will have all the facts of the case.' Five feared killed in horror school shooting as armed police swarm scene
Elite armed police have raced to a school in Graz, Austria's second largest city, after a gunman opened fire in broad daylight. The BORG Dreierschützengasse school is being evacuated with officers swarming the scene. Austrian special task force Cobra has also been deployed to the horror incident, which unfolded at about 10am local time. There are fears as many as five people may have been killed and multiple people injured, according to local media, and a police spokesperson believes the shooter may be a pupil at the school. Students and teachers are believed to be among the victims. Federal police have been deployed to the scene, according to local reports. Cobra units - armed special forces part of the Federal Ministry of the Interior - have rushed to a community administered hospital nearby the shooting site. At keast five people may have died following the school shooting this morning. Police rushed to the scene at around 10am local time (9am GMT) this morning, in the Dreierschützengasse neighborhood, with a local spokesperson telling national broadcaster ORF early on that one person may have died. Fritz Grundnig said one person "possibly also dead" following the shooting.
