Ed Sheeran's Sapphire in Arijit Singh's voice: Recreated AI version goes viral; is it legal?
On June 6, Ed Sheeran released the video for Sapphire, a song he'd been teasing for a while. The three-minute video was shot in a guerrilla style during his visit to India and includes clips of him riding auto rickshaws and meeting fans.
What has excited Indian fans is the fact that the video, as well as the song, also features Arijit Singh. The Bollywood singer is seen driving Ed on his scooter around his hometown, Jiaganj, a small town in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
Ed Sheeran called Arijit 'the final jigsaw piece' of the song. He teased that a full Punjabi version with Arijit is also coming soon.
Meanwhile, a recreated version of the song was released on YouTube. Apparently done with AI, this version of Sapphire is sung completely by Arijit Singh.
The video, uploaded by YouTube user Sing Rajveera on June 7, has gained more than 1 million views so far even though it's not actually a video. An AI-created photo of Arijit Singh and Ed Sheeran floats on the screen while the audio plays.

Social media users had mixed reactions.
'I just realized how good Ed Sheeran is, they almost sound identical,' posted one user.
Another user wrote, 'Both versions are best but I like this one most ...I'm eagerly waiting for this version'
'Arjit the voice of India…' came from a fan while another wrote, 'No one can beat Arijit Singh…'
'This version is very special because it's Arijit Magical voice,' wrote another.
Comments dropped even from outside India, 'Arijit Singh's voice. Love from Bangladesh.'
Some users were not impressed with the AI use.
'Ai can't create the magic Arijit does,' came from one user.
Another user wrote, 'AI just stole our feelings slowly.'
'This is good but the original is masterpiece because AI doesn't create art with feeling and emotions. This is why AI will never beat human art,' wrote one user.
The YouTuber may not be aware that, in 2024, Arijit Singh filed a case against the use of AI to mimic his voice. And, he won the case.
The Bombay High Court, while calling it 'technological exploitation', gave interim relief to Singh in his copyright case against AI platforms for misusing his voice and image. According to the court, using someone's voice or face without permission breaks their personality rights.
It 'also undermines their ability to prevent commercial and deceptive uses of their identity," the court said in its ruling.

Rugby Premier League will transform the sport both on-field and off-field, says Rugby India President Rahul Bose
Rahul Bose had a dream. Being a former rugby player himself, he wanted the current lot of Indian players to rub shoulders with international stars, showcase their talents and help the game grow. For seven years, he made several efforts to launch a league for rugby, first as a former player, later as the President of Rugby India. It wasn't a smooth ride for the Indian actor as convincing people to invest in the sport wasn't easy. It took hours of meetings, endless discussions and crossing all hurdles to finally launch the world's first franchise-based Rugby 7s league. And when the Rugby Premier League eventually gets underway at the Andheri Sports Complex from Sunday, it will, indeed, be a dream come true for Bose, the rugby fraternity and all the players who waited for years for this moment. With GMR coming on board as the title sponsor and GMR Sports becoming the joint organiser of the league along with Rugby India, RPL went on to attract some of the biggest names in the world of rugby. And with six franchises coming in, it has managed to put up some star-studded teams, with a perfect mix of overseas and Indian players. Bose terms this as 'transformational'. 'There will be two kinds of transformation that will happen - one is on the field, and the other off the field. If you believe, 'no, this guy is from this ecosystem and there's a lot of authenticity to what he or she is saying', then it helps…' 'I never talk unless I have something to say. So, I am very, very certain that celebrity endorsement can work both ways. But in this case, I'm not a celebrity. This (the sport) is my childhood, this is my youth. My 30s and my 40s, have all been on a rugby field. So for me, it's like breathing,' he said. In his long playing career, he had a ringside view of the sport, and now, as an administrator, this is perhaps Bose's biggest moment - fulfilling a dream and also sustaining the new league on the block. Bring the action to Hyderabad, chief minister Revanth Reddy tells Tollywood
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday called on the Telugu film industry to draft a vision document that would contribute to Telangana's goal of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Speaking at the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards 2025 function in Hyderabad, Revanth said that just like the govt is preparing sectoral plans for IT, pharma, and other industries, the film industry too will have a dedicated chapter in the state's upcoming Vision 2027 document. 'Bring Hollywood and Bollywood to Hyderabad — this is where the action should be,' the CM told acclaimed director SS Rajamouli. 'You tell me what infrastructure you need; we will create it,' he said. Revanth said that while govt decisions may sometimes appear stringent, they are always aimed at empowering the film industry. Recalling the legacy of Congress govts, he said it was the Congress that instituted the Nandi Film Awards in undivided AP in 1964. He added that no film awards were given over the past 14 years, but the Telangana govt has now revived them, honouring filmmakers and artistes for every year since the formation of the state in 2014. Addressing the new generation of actors, Revanth urged stars like Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, and Allu Arjun to take a leadership role in advancing the industry's contribution to the state's economic vision. 'When India marks 100 years of independence in 2047, Telangana should also celebrate by achieving this ambitious milestone,' he said. Revanth emphasised that Telangana's competition is not with other Indian cities like Amaravati or Mumbai, but with global economic powerhouses such as New York, Tokyo, and Seoul. 'Regardless of my role in politics or govt, I am committed to achieving our $3 trillion goal,' he asserted. Paying tribute to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, in whose name the film awards are instituted, the CM said, 'Gaddar inspired the movement for a separate Telangana. He remains a guiding force for us all.' On the occasion, the CM announced a govt contribution of Rs 3 crore to the Gaddar Foundation. Gaddar's son, Surya Kiran, thanked the govt and said the funds would help preserve Gaddar's memory and ideals.
