Liverpool still want Florian Wirtz despite Bayer Leverkusen's €148m price tag
Liverpool continue to pursue a deal to sign Florian Wirtz after their £109million (€129m) bid was rebuffed by Bayer Leverkusen. A firm offer for the 22-year-old was made on Friday but the Bundesliga side are holding out for a fee closer to £125m (€148m) and talks are continuing. Reports in Germany have suggested Leverkusen would be interested in signing a Liverpool player – midfielder Harvey Elliott and defender Jarell Quansah have both been mentioned – to offset the difference in valuation. However, it is understood the Premier League champions have not held any discussions about any makeweights to help the deal over the line. Second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to complete a move to Brentford in a deal worth up to £18million (€21.3m). The 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international is in the final year of his contract and wants regular first-team football. Meanwhile, Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic will miss the Club World Cup after undergoing Achilles surgery. Kovacic missed the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace through injury earlier this month. He returned to face Bournemouth in the Premier League but was sent off and sat out the final game of the season at Fulham. City have now confirmed the 31-year-old has required an operation. No timescale has been put on his recovery but the focus is now on next season. City face Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in their first match of the Club World Cup in Philadelphia on 18 June. They have further group games against Al Ain of Abu Dhabi and Juventus. The 32-team tournament concludes on 13 July.

Ringmahon Rangers to receive a record €3m of Caoimhín Kelleher's transfer fee
Cork club Ringmahon Rangers are set for the biggest-ever sell-on windfall for an Irish outfit as Caoimhín Kelleher's transfer banks them a guaranteed €3m. The goalkeeper played most of his underage football at the grassroots club on the south side of the city which caters for 42 teams, male and female, from under 7s to senior grade. Kelleher is in London to complete his transfer from Liverpool to Brentford today for an initial fee of €16m. Read More Jake O'Brien tips fellow Corkman Caoimhín Kelleher to excel at Brentford When the 26-year-old moved to Merseyside a decade ago, Ringmahon brokered a 20% sell-on clause. The largesse – of which 20% cascades to the Corkman's first club Rockmount – trumps previous amounts grossed by Irish clubs for sell-ons. Shamrock Rovers received around €2m of the fee Southampton paid Manchester City for Gavin Bazunu in 2022, two years ago after their rivals Bohemians got a €1.7m cut from Matt Doherty's transfer from Wolves to Tottenham Hotspur. Also part of the Kelleher deal were incremental payments such as Ireland caps which had earned around €150,000 but this blockbuster windfall will set the club up financially for decades. The club have declined to comment until the transfer is completed but it's understood they intend to allocate funds towards bolstering their facilities at Ringmahon Park. Members of the hugely successful U12 girls team who won the U12 Premier Division pictured with their coach Lyndsey Horgan, Caoimhin Kelleher and John Kavanagh Since their establishment in 1951, ambitions existed to develop their home base and the latest additions included an extension of dressing-rooms to cater for their girls' teams. Last year's sports capital grant of €109,700 facilitated the installation of full floodlights on the senior pitch. There's every chance now that the 9-aside astro pitch installed in 2022 will be added to a full-size artificial surface. That €3m payout will likely rise once clarity is provided around the add-ons included in the transfer. Another €8m is payable to Liverpool subject to certain milestones such as appearances, of which Ringmahon would be entitled to 20%. Fifa statutes set out mandatory percentages of transfer fees payable between clubs under training and compensation but grassroots outfits are free to hatch their own private terms.

Only reusable vapes can now be sold as the government aims to prevent youths picking up the habit and protect the environment. But e-smokers may wonder whether they'll be fined if they're seen smoking one of the disposable devices. Under the new legislation, rogue traders who continue to sell disposable vapes will be fined £200. Advertisement Read more News Serial offenders could face criminal charges of an unlimited fine or a prison sentence of up to two years. But these fines only apply to supplying disposable vapes. Those who have stocked up and are still smoking the devices following the ban won't be fined. As a result, online vendors were desperate to avoid being stuck with illegal stock before the deadline leading to Advertisement Most read in The Sun One site was boasting a "UK Vape Bargain Blast" ahead of the deadline, selling Flavaah Bar disposable vapes for 29p each, down from £5. The popular Elf Bar vapes were also down from a fiver at just 49p. The Sun spoke to Douglas Eccles from Rustic Vapez before the ban was put in place, who agreed with the ban but noted how it left customers "panicking". Advertisement Disposable vapes will be banned across UK by next summer to stop Britain's kids from getting hooked He said: "Everyone's panicking thinking all disposables are gone from Sunday, but it's not going to go that way. "A lot of people are bulk-buying them because a lot of shops are doing them really cheap because they know that any stock they've got from Sunday they've got to take off the shelves." But the ban could backfire with a slew of consequences, according to industry leaders. Experts fear the ban could result in vapes losing their original purpose as an aid to quit smoking. Advertisement They warn that smokers who used vapes to help kick cigarettes may now return to the deadly habit. Even worse, they could turn to Instead, experts say the ban was a "disproportionate response" and looking at existing laws and education should have been considered first. Kate Pike, the lead officer for Advertisement She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: 'It's a real worry that people will continue to use them as single-use disposable and therefore it won't help limit the damage to the environment.' Industry leaders have also warned that disposable products will soon be replaced with near identical reusable vapes as sellers scramble to get new legal models onto shelves. Additionally, campaigners We Vape said the new law will create a black market that is "impossible to enforce". Smoking vs. vaping VAPING has been touted as an effective tool to help people quit smoking. Though vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking, the habit isn't completely harmless and comes with its own set of risks. The NHS only recommends it for adult smokers, to support quitting smoking. GP and author Dr Philippa Kaye explained to The Sun that the differences between vaping and smoking - and whether one is better than the other - is "complicated". "In a nutshell, vaping is better than smoking, but breathing air is better than vaping at all." Vaping exposes users to far fewer toxins - and at lower levels - than smoking cigarettes. Switching to vaping significantly reduces your exposure to toxins that can cause cancer, lung disease, and diseases of the heart and circulation like heart attack and stroke. These diseases are not caused by nicotine, which is relatively harmless to health. But research has still linked vaping to a higher risk of failure and lung disease.
