Punjab Congress leader condemns chief minister Bhagwant Mann for ‘remarks mocking Hindu customs'.
Ludhiana: Byelection candidate of the Congress, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, on Tuesday accused Punjab chief minister
Bhagwant Mann
of making a communally insensitive "one nation, one husband" remark that mocked Hindu traditions.
Ashu said the comment was made in jest while referring to 'sindoor', the sacred vermilion worn traditionally by Hindu women and used in religious ceremonies across the country. Sindoor is also the name of India's paused counter-terrorist offensive against Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack. "It has become a fashion to mock Hindu customs and rituals, and CM Mann has proven no exception," Ashu told reporters, calling the remark "outrageous and blasphemous".
He added that 'sindoor' is not only a symbol of marriage for women but is also applied to idols of Hanuman and as a devotional 'tilak' on the foreheads of many Hindus. "These traditions are deeply sacred. Insulting these hurts the sentiments of crores of Hindus nationwide," the Congress candidate said.
Ashu demanded that Mann issued an unconditional public apology, saying that leaders should show sensitivity toward religious practices rather than ridicule those. "Before making this kind of remarks, the CM should educate himself about Hindu customs and culture," he said. The Aam Aadmi Party, to which Mann belongs, has not yet issued a response.

Bengaluru IPL stampede: BJP seeks resignation of CM, Dy. CM
The BJP launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government, calling the death of 11 persons in a stampede in Bengaluru during the RCB victory celebrations as 'gross administrative failure.' Addressing reporters here on Thursday, senior BJP functionary M.A. Mohan sought the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. 'It is being described as a tragic accident, but I call it a murder,' he said. Pointing out that despite widespread anticipation and media hype ahead of the IPL final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings and the celebrations that followed RCB's victory late on Tuesday night, Mr. Mohan said no adequate safety measures were put in place for the victory parade in Bengaluru. He said that thousands had gathered in Bengaluru to watch the final on giant screens and later joined celebrations that lasted till 4 a.m. 'The police were already overworked managing these crowds, and just hours later the Chief Minister announced felicitation in a display of disregard for the well-being of police personnel,' he said. The decision to hold the felicitation ceremony at Vidhana Soudha came under flak and the BJP said there were no invites to the Opposition. 'It was only for Ministers, their children, and family members,' said Mr. Mohan. He said the Congress government in Telangana registered an FIR against actor Allu Arjun after a stampede during a movie promotion in Hyderabad last year. Now, who will be held responsible for the 11 deaths, he questioned.

Speaking at the National Press Club in Washington DC, Tharoor said the events and Pakistan's rapid de-escalation spoke volumes on their own. He noted the use of Chinese weapons by Pakistan and India's ability to bypass Chinese radar and defense systems, subtly implying that China may have already received the message without India needing to say a word.#shashitharoor #tharoor #india #operationsindoor #PAHALGAM #pakistan #pmmodi 1.2K views | 4 hours ago

PM Modi to visit Siwan on June 20, address a ‘raila': State BJP chief
Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Siwan district on June 20, when he will also address a big rally there, state BJP chief Dilip Kumar Jaiswal said here on Thursday. At the same time, he assailed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is scheduled to visit the state on Friday. "Prime Minister Modi will also make another chunk of big announcements as his gift to the state. It will not just be a rally, but a 'raila' (mega rally), the kind of which Congress leader Gandhi can only dream about addressing in the state," Jaiswal told reporters at the state BJP headquarters. Incidentally, it would be the fifth visit of PM Modi to the state after the 2024 parliamentary elections, starting with Jamui district in Dec, Bhagalpur (Feb), Madhubani (April) and Bikramganj (May). Piqued at the recent slogan of Rahul — "Narendra … Surrender" — that has gone viral, Jaiswal, without mentioning it, launched a blistering counter-attack on the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha. "Prime Minister Modi has come to Bihar 51 times in the last 11 years. His contribution is that he has made a new India, and is immensely popular the world over. It (his visits) has not been like that of Rahul Gandhi, who goes out on a 'yatra' (tour), and in the process, visits the state, before going into hibernation," state the BJP chief said. He added, "He (Rahul) comes to the state whenever it is election time, and goes around with a book of the Indian Constitution in his hand. He, instead, should keep visiting the state throughout the five years if he has to strengthen his party Congress, because the country, in any case, needs a strong opposition." Jaiswal appeared visibly angry at the the slogan "Narendra … Surrender", which he said was an abuse hurled at PM Modi. "You (Rahul) don't know, I have a full dictionary of abuses that will be beyond your imagination. Imagine, Rahul abusing PM Modi, who is as old as his father. I called him (Rahul) by his name, because he younger to me. Yet, the wonder of wonders, he is called a 'yuva neta' at 55! I have respect for all, since disrespecting others is not a part of our political culture. "
