Ruben Amorim is spotted working out in Bilbao gym with Man United fans - just hours before Europa League final against Tottenham

Daily Mail21-05-2025

Ruben Amorim has been spotted in a Bilbao gym ahead of the Europa League final.
The Manchester United boss will lead his team into battle against Tottenham on Wednesday night as both sides look to salvage their season with silverware.
Amorim has adopted a fairly relaxed mindset heading into the final and demonstrated as such after posing with United fans inside a gym Bilbao on matchday.
Taking to X, one United fan shared a picture of Amorim alongside two supporters with the caption: 'my dads day started at the gym with a special guest'.
Amorim - in his full United gear - was all smiles as he struck the pose with the fans who have likely made the trip to support the Red Devils in Bilbao.
The Portuguese boss has made a habit of his casual, matchday encounters with United supporters - having been spotted in a similar situation in February.
He was spotted by a fan working out at a morning gym session in a Bucharest hotel during United's Europa League trip to Romania earlier in the competition.
A Romanian football fan took to Instagram to share two photos of himself next to Amorim.
One showed them posing together outside of a hotel elevator, while the other was taken when both men were sat inside a weight room.
The fan, known on Instagram as razvan.oprea.91, shared the pictures alongside the caption: 'Morning gym with Ruben Amorim - Manchester Utd coach'.
United supporter and podcaster Scott Saunders later shared the snaps via X (formerly Twitter), where he quipped: 'Nah I love that Ruben Amorim's just gone and used the hotel gym in Bucharest and did some chest and shoulders alongside this local fella'.
It turned out to be a successful trip to Romania for Amorim and his team as a 2-0 win over FCSB secured third place in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League.
Earlier this week, Amorim said he's at a loss to explain why United fans are still backing him ahead of the Europa League final against Tottenham.
The 40-year-old believes one factor in his favour is that he warned the United board a storm was coming when he began the job in November and his prediction has come true.
'I don't know how to explain how the fans like me in this moment,' said Amorim. 'It's hard to explain but I will try to prove myself to the fans and to the board, but I don't have an explanation for you.
'The good thing is I never worry about that. That is a part of being a coach and the most important thing is I know what I am doing and I explained everything when we started.
'I explained about the storm [coming], I explained all the problems we have to the board, so I was so clear and I explained that I will not change my idea.

Luciano Spalletti claims he has been sacked by Italy after Norway humiliation

Luciano Spalletti has been sacked from his role as Italy's coach, the manager said on Sunday, following their heavy loss to Norway, but will take charge of Monday's game against Moldova. Spalletti made the announcement at a press conference after Norway stunned Italy with a 3-0 win on Friday, handing the visitors a humiliating start to their World Cup qualifying campaign. 'Last night we were together with [Italian football federation] president [Gabriele] Gravina. He told me that I will be relieved of my position as coach of the national team,' Spalletti said. 'I had no intention of giving up. I would have preferred to stay in my place and continue doing my job. I'll be there tomorrow evening against Moldova, then we'll resolve the contract.' Spalletti's apparent dismissal comes after less than two years in the role, having replaced Roberto Mancini and taken charge in September 2023. While Spalletti took Italy to Euro 2024, their disappointing performance there had already put the manager under pressure. Italy went into the Euros last year in Germany as defending champions but after winning their opening game against Albania, they lost to Spain and snatched a late draw with Croatia to make the last 16, where they were beaten 2-0 by Switzerland. Spalletti's side seemed to have recovered as they put in an impressive Nations League campaign, beating France 3-1 away and losing just once. They lost at home to Les Bleus in the final group game to finish behind France on goal difference. Italy began this year with a 2-1 loss at the San Siro in their Nations League quarter-final first leg with Germany and found themselves 3-0 down at half-time in the return game in Dortmund. The loss left Spalletti's side already facing an uphill battle to secure automatic qualification for next year's World Cup, and after Italy missed out on the last two finals, the Italian football federation (FIGC) decided to act.

Rangers told to stump up more cash for Dor Turgeman

The Maccabi Tel Aviv striker is thought to be a top target for the Ibrox men, tracked for months and also wanted by new manager Russell Martin.
