VU Theater Students set to perform Schoolhouse Rock Live in April
VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vincennes University students studying theatre arts will bring to life the classic music videos of 'Schoolhouse Rock' in April.
This will be a live performance of the television series Schoolhouse Rock that included educational lyrics that teach children concepts in history, civics, economics, and more. Its Theater Program Director Kendra Clauser said this production showcases the students' creativity, passion, and devotion to performing.
She said she hopes this performance has a positive impact on all who attend.

'I think it is fun to be able to teach lessons that young people can appreciate in a way that includes music, dancing, silly characters, and all the things kids tend to enjoy,' said Clauser.
These performances will be held at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center on April 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. and on April 13 at 2 p.m.

Strawberry Festival draws a crowd after CASY lends a hand
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Terre Haute's way of kicking off the summer took place Thursday with the annual Strawberry Festival. Put on by First Congregational Church, the event took over downtown Terre Haute for the 38th annual year. For just $10, people can purchase a ticket for 'The Works.' That includes biscuits, topped with strawberries, ice cream, and whipped cream. While enjoying that treat, there are tables with tents and live music. Gwen Hicks is a co-chair of the festival. She said the event was almost cancelled, but residents are sure glad it continued. 'It's just an annual event and we just feel that it means so much to so many', Hicks said. 'Today, I've had so many people tell me that they're so glad we're back and that we didn't cancel. It just means so much for me to be here this summer.' The event had been cancelled this year until Chances and Services for Youth, or CASY, stepped up to help out. CASY's Chief Operating Officer, Brandon Halleck, said they provided some much-needed financial support and helping hands for the day. 'When they made the announcement that they weren't going to have it after 37 years, we kind of sat back and thought how can we let this happen when it's such a staple in our community', Halleck said. 'Everybody looks forward to the strawberry festival, it kind of kicks off summer for us. As an agency, we were kind of kicking around the idea then made a couple of phone calls to the church and now we're here today.' WATCH: Terre Haute Strawberry Festival returns this week
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Strawberry Festival is coming up this Thursday, June 12 outside of the First Congregational Church of Terre Haute. The festival is free to enter. It runs from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. outside of the church. Chances and Services for Youth is partnering up with organizers to put on this year's annual festival. Brandon Halleck with CASY, and festival organizer Gwen Hicks joined David and Jen Tuesday morning on WTWO Today to talk about the event and all of the fun they have planned. You can see the full interview at the top of the page. Attendees can purchase the strawberry 'works' treat for $10, which includes a sweet biscuit, strawberries, ice cream and whipped topping. There will be tables for people to sit and enjoy their treats, while listening to live music. There will also be a play area for children. 'Come back out and relive those memories you've had or if it's your first time, see what memories you will make. Bring the family, bring friends, make an afternoon out of it. Enjoy the music. CASA's Pirate Palooza kicks off summer with fun activities
VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will hold its Pirate Palooza, Saturday, as a way to kick off the summer. It's a closed event for the children that CASA serves. The organization said about 400 kids will be participating in the pirate-themed event, complete with costumes, obstacle courses, bounce houses and giveaways. Vigo County CASA celebrates 40 years With support from Bogey's, Pepsi, Elks Lodge 86 and the Putnamville Correction Facility, CASA said it will be a summer bash the kids will remember. 'A lot of kids that we serve don't get the opportunity to do any grand vacations or travel, or things like that. So, this is our opportunity to give them a way to have memories for the summer to kick off and just have a good day,' said Glenna Cheesman, Director of Vigo County CASA. 'This is a day for us to just hang out with the kids and just be kids ourselves, and be pirates. Who doesn't like pirates?'
