BREAKING NEWS Actor Timothy West's cause of death revealed: EastEnders and Coronation Street star died after nasty fall

Daily Mail22-05-2025

Actor Timothy West died 'peacefully with his family around him' at a care home where he was receiving palliative care after a three-month stay in hospital following a fall, an inquest has heard.
West, who was married to actress Prunella Scales for more than 60 years, starred in TV shows such as comedy drama Brass, sitcom Not Going Out and soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders.
His family announced last November that he had died aged 90 with his friends and family around him, some of whom attended a hearing into his death at Westminster Coroner's Court on Thursday by videolink.
Assistant coroner Ellie Oakley said: 'Timothy West had an unwitnessed fall near his home on 11 August 2024 which resulted in a significant traumatic brain injury.
'It is not possible to determine how the fall happened and there is no evidence of others being involved.
'He was treated in hospital for around three months before being discharged to a care home on 5 November 2024 for palliative care.
'Unfortunately he was not well enough to be discharged to his home despite receiving appropriate care in the care home.
'He died on 12 November 2024.'
West had been living at Wandsworth Common Care Home in the days leading up to his death.
The home's general manager, Thomas Holden, said in a statement read out at Thursday's inquest: 'On 12 November his family were with him all day.
'They continued to stay with him in his room during the evening and he passed away peacefully with his family around him at 19:20.'
In a statement announcing his death last year, West's children Juliet, Samuel and Joseph said: 'After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old.
'Tim was with friends and family at the end.
'He leaves his wife, Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. All of us will miss him terribly.'
West and Scales, 92, who played Sybil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, appeared in the documentary series Great Canal Journeys between 2014 and 2021, which saw them travelling on narrowboats.
The couple married in 1963 and had two sons, Samuel and Joseph.
West was also married to actor Jacqueline Boyer from 1956 to 1961, and they had a daughter, Juliet.
In Brass the Bradford-born actor played ruthless self-made businessman Bradley Hardacre from 1982 to 1984 before returning for a third series in 1990, while in Not Going Out he played Geoffrey, the father of Lucy Adams, played by Sally Bretton.
He appeared as Eric Babbage in seven episodes of Coronation Street in 2013, and in EastEnders he played Stan Carter from 2014 to 2015.
His film roles included Commissioner Berthier in The Day Of The Jackal (1973), King Francis in From Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998), and Nazi physician and war criminal Karl Gebhardt in Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973).
On stage, he was a regular performer of Shakespeare, playing Lear in 2016 and 2002.
In 1984, West was appointed a CBE for his services to drama in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
Before acting, West attended the John Lyon School and Bristol Grammar School, and worked as an office furniture salesman and a recording technician before becoming an assistant stage manager at Wimbledon Theatre in 1956.

Shocking moment families brawl at Disneyland after 'row over queue cutting'

A savage brawl broke out at Disneyland after furious tourists became fed up with queue-cutters. Despite being deemed the 'Happiest Place on Earth', the scuffle between a couple and a family of three even saw a young child be assaulted near the Crazy Animal City ride. In a video taken by another person in the queue, a man wearing a black t-shirt grabbed the other man, in a white t-shirt, by the neck. They both wrestled each other as a woman wearing a hat with rabbit ears attached to it repeatedly flailed out her arms. She tried to hit both of the men before running at a visitor, part of the family of three, who carried a child. The woman hit both of them, including the little girl, which caused the mum to break down into tears and crouch on the ground. She kept the child tightly in her arms and held her close to her chest. As she cried, the focus went back to the two men as the woman wearing the rabbit hat went to join in on the scuffle. The man in the white t-shirt who appeared to be part of the family, was wrestled to the ground after he fell on some steps. When he hit the floor, the woman who was still holding her child became hysterical as she reached out her arm to the man. She then stood up and grabbed the woman wearing the hat and began to shout. Security personnel eventually intervened in the fight - which local press said was caused by an argument over the queue - and were able to break up the altercation which took place at Disneyland Park, in Shanghai, China. The shocking scenes attracted a large number of tourists who watched in horror, as reported by NeedToKnow. It is not known whether those involved suffered consequences as a result of their actions but some outlets have said that tourists may face a permanent ban on entering the park if they engage in violent behaviour. It has also been reported that the couple tried to have a photo together which was blocked by the family, leading to a heated exchange before punches began swinging. This is not the first time an outrageous brawl broke out at Disneyland - with another viral video taken of a fight in 2023. Punches and kicks were thrown between two families on the walkway between Storybook Land Canal Boats and Mad Tea Party rides in Fantasyland. A tourist wearing blue pushes another clad in red before a second guest - also wearing red - runs up and throws a punch at the apparent instigator. The camera pans away but swings back to reveal two more guests joining in. Another two people are absorbed in the brawl as bystanders rush from the scene. One man topples to the ground - only to be kicked by a woman as he attempts to regain his balance. Small children closest to the fight hang onto a nearby guardrail as they inch away. Disneyland security hurried to break up the fight while Fantasyland cast members closed off the area between the parade route and the Mad Hatter gift shop. According to visitor who filmed the scuffle, the family wearing red was asked to move aside by another family attempting to pass. The family in red 'gave them attitude' and told them to go around. However, this was not possible, as there was only a small opening and the second family had strollers. The families continued to exchange verbal blows before teenage girls from both sides began to argue 'in close proximity' - launching an all-out fistfight. Park officials say the party that initiated the incident was immediately removed, adding that 'any type of violence will not be tolerated at Disneyland Resort'.

Billie Piper 'rekindles relationship with ex boyfriend Johnny Lloyd as they're spotted kissing during family outing with their daughter at London pub'

Billie Piper has rekindled her relationship with ex boyfriend Johnny Lloyd, according to a new report. The actress, who made her sensational return to Doctor Who on Saturday night, confirmed she had split from musician Johnny, who is frontman of the band Tribes, in March 2024 after eight years together. But fans have now spotted the exes kissing during an outing last week with their daughter Tallulah, seven, at a London pub. The family were enjoying a country music gig on Thursday at a Notting Hill bar, with Billie, 42, spotted beaming as she and Johnny, 39, chatted to friends outside. An onlooker told The Sun: 'Billie and Johnny were all over each other. They looked really cute together. Billie beamed as their daughter Tallulah sat on her lap. 'Billie rested her elbow on Johnny's shoulder as the band belted out country music covers - they all looked blissfully happy. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'The family trio left around 8, thanking the band with handshakes and kisses as they left the venue.' Representatives for Billie and Johnny have been contacted by MailOnline for comment. In March 2024 Billie confirmed her split from Johnny following an eight-year romance. Sources had said that 'like many couples, lockdown was quite tough for them, so they have had time to really think about what they want their future to look like.' In a British Vogue spread, the actress confirmed they had separated but did not reveal any further details other than her three-word verdict on Johnny, calling him a 'very good man.' Billie and Johnny welcomed their daughter Tallulah in January 2019 after it was confirmed in July 2018 that Billie was expecting her first child with the rocker. The couple ex first met at the Boogaloo pub on London's Archway Road in 2016. In April 2019, Johnny revealed that a lot of his success was down to Billie's support as she helped him get to the end of a sometimes bumpy journey. When they met the attraction was reportedly instant and mutual. 'She challenged me. She kept asking me questions like, What's your five-year plan? Where are you headed musically? And telling me I had to be accountable for everything I did,' he said 'I felt my head had been stuck in this way of just thinking next job, next tour and I wanted to keep talking to her. Luckily she felt the same way about me. 'She's made my life better in so many ways and I just feel I now know who I am, I know what I can do, I know where I want to be. And that's with her.' Billie was previously married to DJ Chris Evans, whom she famously wed when she was 18 and he was 35. She shocked fans when it emerged they had tied the knot in a casual Las Vegas wedding in 2001 - with just six guests - and just a year after meeting on Chris' TV show TFI Friday. She later admitted to being 'completely hammered for three years' during their marriage and split from Chris in 2004. The divorce was finalised in 2007. Following her marriage to Chris, Billie tied the knot again with controversial activist Laurence Fox in 2007. She was granted a 'quickie' divorce from him in 2016. The actress shares sons Winston and Eugene with the controversial activist and the pair were embroiled in a lengthy custody dispute after their split. Speaking about how past trauma impacted her relationships, Billie mused in her Vogue 2024 interview: 'It's coming out of your 20s, there's enough stuff in your life to look over and go, "Oh, that's been a pattern of behaviour." 'There was a point where I realised I had been drawn into siding with men on a lot of things. I became incredibly frustrated and angry about that. 'I felt very unhinged in my early 30s and kind of mentally not well. There was something very, very sobering about that time and letting go of people that weren't very healthy for me. Unfortunately, a lot of that has been in relation to men I suppose.' She added that finding fame at a young age and working in a male-dominated music industry also impacted her love life. 'Sometimes I wanted to appeal to them, so that I could feel safe. Sometimes I wanted to be them because it looked like they were having a better time than I was', Billie explained. 'It was a period of time in the 1990s where it was just very, very male heavy. I felt a huge amount of frustration about that and I carried that into my romantic relationships.' Billie is on a career high, shocking fans with her return to Doctor Who in a surprise appearance for the series finale on Saturday night. In 2020 Billie starred in the critically acclaimed Sky series, I Hate Suzie. She then landed a lead part in the 2024 Netflix drama Scoop, a dramatic retelling of the process of securing and filming the 2019 Prince Andrew interview with Newsnight. The series was praised by viewers and critics alike, with a whopping 2.75 million households tuning in for the first week alone and Billie also secured a TV BAFTA nomination for her role. That same year, she starred in another Netflix series, Kaos - a contemporary re-imagining of Greek mythology - where she played prophetess Cassandra. Next up is a part in Netflix megahit Wednesday, as Isadora Capri, Nevermor Academy's new head of music. Billie will then be kept busy filming for Doctor Who after the jaw-dropping finale saw her unveiled as the next incarnation of the Time Lord. The actress is well-known to longtime Who fans, having previously played The Doctor's companion Rose Tyler, and The Moment interface in the show's 50th Anniversary Special. Ncuti Gatwa became the 15th Doctor in 2023 but during Saturday's episode it appeared that Ncuti's Doctor, had regenerated into Billie, with her first words being: 'Oh hello!' Billie will now be the second woman to take on the role as the Time Lord after Jodie Whittaker portrayed the 13th doctor. However, while her reveal understandably sparked a huge frenzy on social media, others have been quick to spot one key problem with her regeneration, following Ncuti Gatwa's long-speculated exit from the show.
