Terrified holidaymakers were seen running for cover as shots rang out during the Saturday afternoon incident at the airport.
Shocking footage shows the knifeman running at one of the five National Police officers trying to intercept him, with the cop falling to the ground as bystanders scrambled to safety.
The knifeman then tries to run into holidaymakers as cops continue to chase him.
He was then shot as he tried to attack the officer's colleagues who appeared to be warning him to desist before they opened fire.
Court officials have confirmed one of the five bullets the teenager received hit him in the neck.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body remained at the location for over an hour as forensic and judicial teams documented the scene.
CCTV footage of the incident, which unfolded just before 5pm on Saturday, is being analysed by an investigating judge based in the Gran Canaria town of Telde.
Overnight it emerged the unnamed aggressor had tried to board a flight to Gambia before going on the rampage, but was turned back after airport workers saw his ticket was for a plane due to take off on May 22.
He is said to have tried to force his way through airport control after being intercepted, setting off a scanner because of the knife he was carrying in his rucksack.
Ibon Dominguez, a spokesman for police union Jupol, has described the response of the officers who tackled the knifeman as 'proportional and congruent.'
He said: 'The man with the knife could easily have ended the lives of one of those policemen.'

The Canary Islands High Court of Justice said in its first full statement on the incident: 'A duty court in Telde has been investigating the circumstances in which a person who was shot by the police died on Saturday in the airport area.
'At the moment the court is compiling the images of the multiple camera recordings from outside and inside the airport in order to establish a reconstruction of the events.
'The man was shot five times, including once in the neck.
'The videos show that the deceased was apparently out of his mind and carrying a large knife and after attacking a taxi driver he felled a police officer and tried to knock down another, and was wandering around armed in an area with a large number of people, creating a real danger for their physical integrity.
'He was 18 years old.'
Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) handled nearly 14 million passengers in 2023, with peak footfall during the winter and summer holidays.
The airport is one of Spain's busiest and a favourite destination for millions of British tourists.
The shocking incident happened in the ground-level zone used by both Global buses and taxis - a key area for arriving and departing travellers.

Missing UK tourist found dead at bottom of lift shaft in Malaysia

Brit backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, disappeared on May 27 in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. He was last seen at a bar in a suburb. The body of a missing tourist who vanished in Malaysia has been found in a lift shaft a week after he vanished. Brit backpacker Jordan Johnson-Doyle, 25, disappeared on May 27 in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur after he was last seen at a bar in a suburb. ‌ As the Mirror reports, a major search was launched by police after he was reported missing. Tragically the search has ended after he was found dead in a lift shaft at the ground floor of a construction site. ‌ A post-mortem found the cause of death was a horror "chest injury sustained from fall from height", according to police chief Rusdi Mohd. Police have ruled out any foul play. The police chief added: "No criminal elements were found at the scene and the case has been classified as a sudden death report." Jordan was last seen at Healey Mac's Irish Bar in the Bangsar area of the city. He had sent his friend a photo of the pub's quiz poster before he is believed to have gone to a nearby bar called The Social. His devastated mum Leanna Burnett previously told how she felt"sick" and "numb" over his shock disappearance. Leanna used a tracking device 'find my iPhone' to trace her son's phone in a desperate search for him. The tracker showed the mobile was at a residential block close to the bar in the Kuala Lumpur suburb where Jordan had been. ‌ Leanna said she last spoke to her son on May 26 just a day before he disappeared. She previously said: "He seemed absolutely fine and normal. Nothing stood out whatsoever. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "We always end the phone call with 'love long time' and that was the very last thing we said to each other." Jordan had been backpacking around South East Asia at the time and had recently visited nearby country Vietnam on his travels. ‌ It is understood he arrived in Malaysia on May 17 and was staying at the Robertson Residences at Bukit, in Kuala Lumpur. Tributes have poured in for the software engineer. One social media user wrote to the family, they said: "So sorry for your his soul rest in peace, may God comfort n give strength to you n family in this difficult times. Sending love & hugs from Ipoh, Malaysia." ‌ Another added: "Deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the family." Jordan Johnson-Doyle's death shares some similarities to that of Brit tourist Tyler Kerry, 20, who was found dead in a lift shaft in Turkey. Tyler was found unresponsive inside a lift shaft at the Trendy Lara Hotel in Antalya last year. It was believed Tyler opened the door believing the lift had arrived and walked through and into the empty shaft.

Russian strike kills five, including toddler, hours after Trump calls Putin

Six drones hit a residential area in the city at 5.30am local time, according to authorities. The child killed was the grandson of an emergency responder, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said. 'One of the rescuers arrived to respond to the aftermath right at his own home,' Mr Zelensky said in a post on Telegram. 'It turned out that a Shahed drone hit his house.' The one-year-old's mother was a police officer called Daryna Shyhyda, Ukraine's National Police said. 'Today our hearts are scorched by pain,' the police force wrote on Telegram. 'This is not just a loss – it is three generations of life uprooted.' The attack came just hours after US President Donald Trump spoke by phone to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Mr Trump, Mr Putin said 'very strongly' that Russia will retaliate for Ukraine's weekend drone attacks on Russian military airfields. Six people were wounded in the Pryluky attack and are in hospital, officials said. Pryluky, which had a pre-war population of around 50,000 people, lies about 100 kilometres (60 miles) east of Kyiv, the capital. The city is far from the front line and does not contain any known military assets. Mr Zelensky said a total of 103 drones and one ballistic missile targeted multiple Ukrainian regions overnight, including Donetsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Chernihiv, Dnipro and Kherson. 'This is another massive strike,' Mr Zelensky said. 'It is yet another reason to impose the strongest possible sanctions and apply pressure collectively.' Mr Zelensky, who has accepted a US ceasefire proposal and offered to meet Mr Putin in an attempt to break the stalemate in negotiations, wants more international sanctions on Russia to force it to accept a settlement. Mr Putin has shown no willingness to meet Mr Zelensky, however, and has indicated no readiness to compromise. US-led diplomatic efforts to stop the more than three-year war have delivered no significant progress, and the grinding war of attrition has continued unabated. Germany's new leader Friedrich Merz was due to meet Mr Trump in Washington on Thursday as he works to keep the US on board with Western diplomatic and military support for Ukraine. Ukraine's top presidential aide, Andriy Yermak, met senior American officials in Washington on Wednesday and called for greater US pressure on Russia, accusing the Kremlin of deliberately stalling ceasefire talks and blocking progress toward peace, according to a statement on the presidential website. Mr Yermak, who travelled to the US as part of a Ukrainian delegation, met senior American officials to bolster support for Ukraine's defence and humanitarian priorities. He said Ukraine urgently needs stronger air defence capabilities. Hours after the Pryluky attack, 19 people were injured in a Russian drone strike on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Those hurt included children, a pregnant woman, and a 93-year-old woman, regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov wrote on Telegram. At around 1.05am, Shahed-type drones struck two apartment buildings in the city's Slobidskyi district, causing fires and destroying several private vehicles. 'By launching attacks while people sleep in their homes, the enemy once again confirms its tactic of insidious terror,' Mr Syniehubov wrote on Telegram. Russian aircraft also dropped four powerful glide bombs on the southern city of Kherson, injuring at least three people, regional authorities said.
