'Body parts' spotted in road as explosion rips through IVF lab

Daily Record17-05-2025

Concerned locals said they felt the area "shake" when some kind of loud bang was heard.
Horrific scenes are unfolding in Palm Springs after an explosion tore through an IVF lab leaving "body parts" strewn across the roads.
One fatality has been confirmed following the blast next to an IVF clinic that took place at around 11am local time.

The FBI is on the scene following the explosion, investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also on their way, spokesperson Nicole Lozano said.

Local police have also not yet ruled out if terrorism is behind the huge incident. Lieutenant William Hutchinson from the Palm Springs Police Department told The Desert Sun: "Everything is in question, whether this is an act of terrorism."
Dr Maher Abdallah, who runs the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic where the explosion occurred, said all of his staff were safe and accounted for, reports the Mirror.
The explosion damaged the practice's office space, where it conducts consultations with patients, but left the IVF lab and all of the stored embryos there unharmed.
'I really have no clue what happened,' Abdallah said. 'Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients.'
A local reporter said they have been told a "structure fire" is being tackled by firefighters, while an NBC News journalist said there are concerns"this may have been a bomb" due to the police presence at the scene. This is not confirmed.

Concerned locals have said they felt the area "shake" when some kind of loud bang was heard. One resident said they were jogging a short distance away from the American Reproductive Centres when the blast occured.
"It was so loud it shook me," Tamara Cash told The Desert Sun. "All I could hear was alarms going off in different buildings."
Locals have also reported smelling a strange odour in the wake of the blast. First responders have continued to arrive at the scene.
TV reported Carrlyn Bathe Hammer said on X: "We're in Palm Springs for the weekend and are driving to get brunch - emergency responders have FLOODED the area, we had to reroute to another street. I'm not sure what happened but buildings/windows are shattered, debris is scattered. It looks like an explosion?!"
Nearby upholstery shop worker Claudio Chavez said according to the New York Times: "I was just in my shop waiting for clients, and all of a sudden it felt like a big explosion. It took out our window. I just saw a bunch of smoke."

More accusations added to federal sex trafficking case against Alexander brothers

Three real estate brothers accused of a scheme to sex traffic women across multiple states and Mexico were in a federal courtroom in New York on Tuesday to face a third superseding indictment. An added count against Alon Alexander and Oren Alexander brings the total to 10 counts against Oren Alexander, Tal Alexander and Alon Alexander. They pleaded not guilty to all charges. The brothers appeared in hand and leg shackles, wearing olive-colored prison attire. They greeted their parents on their way in and out of the brief arraignment. Federal prosecutors have accused the men of working together to drug, sexually assault and rape dozens of victims between 2009 and 2021. The charges allege that the brothers promised women luxury experiences to lure them to locations where they were sexually assaulted and raped. Seven victims are included in the indictment, including a minor. Federal prosecutors have said they have spoken to more than 60 alleged victims of the men. The new count alleges that Alon and Oren gave a drug, intoxicant or another substance to a woman without her knowledge to cause her to engage in a sex act while on a Bahamian cruise ship that departed from and arrived in the United States. An attorney for Alon, Howard Srebnick, said that his client had not drugged a woman to have sex with her. "On January 13, 2025, a retired FBI polygraph examiner tested Alon while in jail. Alon was asked if he ever had sex with any woman he knew had been covertly given drugs, which Alon denied," Srebnick said. "The polygraph examiner opined that Alon passed the lie detector test, there were 'no significant reactions indicative of deception' by Alon." Attorneys for the other men either declined to comment Tuesday. Earlier on Tuesday, attorneys for the three brothers appeared at the Second Circuit Court of Appeals to appeal their detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where they have been held since last December. "They did not agree to provide sex in exchange for the travel or accommodations,' defense attorney Deanna Paul for Tal Alexander wrote in a dismissal motion filed Monday in the Southern District of New York in Manhattan. "The alleged travel and accommodations were not conditioned expressly, or implicitly, on the victims' participation in the sex acts; and the travel and accommodations did not represent compensation for the sex acts,' the motion states, citing four separate federal court decisions on the sex trafficking law requiring that connection to hold up. Their next hearing is set for Aug 19. The Alexander brothers filed a defamation lawsuit this week against The Real Deal, a real estate publication, seeking $500 million in damages for what they say has been a 'smear campaign' against them that 'has relentlessly published articles containing false and misleading statements'. The Real Deal strongly rejected those allegations. "Let's be clear: this lawsuit is not about justice. It's an attempt to stop investigative journalism and bully a newsroom for doing its job,' founder and publisher Amir Korangy said in a statement Tuesday. 'The Real Deal's reporting was fair and conscientious, and we are confident the courts will see this for what it is — a frivolous and cynical attempt to weaponize the legal system."

FBI director Kash Patel sues reporter for 'nightclub' smear

FBI Director Kash Patel is filing a lawsuit against an MSNBC analyst who claimed on air that he spends more of his time 'at nightclubs' than he does at work. Frank Figliuzzi, ex-assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI after serving as a special agent for 25 years, said on Morning Joe last month that Patel spends much of his time out clubbing. Just days later, the show and the network were forced to retract and admit that there was no evidence. Now, Patel has filed a defamation lawsuit against Figliuzzi, who the FBI Director says was 'fabricating a specific lie' about him, citing the nightclub comment. Patel's lawyers claim in the suit, filed in Texas, that Figliuzzi 'knew that this was a lie when he said it.' Furthermore, they make a point of saying that 'since becoming Director of the FBI, Director Patel has not spent a single minute inside of a nightclub.' '[T]here was no basis for Defendant's fabrication, and Defendant's use of the weasel word, 'reportedly,' is itself a fabrication,' the suit alleges. 'Defendant did not rely on reporting by any other person. Defendant made up the story out of whole cloth, and by using the word 'reportedly,' attempts to distance himself from what is a maliciously false and defamatory statement.' Frank Figliuzzi (pictured), ex-assistant director for counterintelligence at the FBI after serving as a special agent for 25 years, said on Morning Joe last month that Patel spends much of his time out clubbing They also claim that Figliuzzi made up the rumor because he has a 'clear animus' toward Patel, slamming his credentials for the job in a column previously, The New York Post reports. Ultimately, the plaintiff alleges that 'as a partisan commentator, (Figliuzzi) was motivated to sensationalize, and in this case, fabricate a story to self-promotingly advance his own name recognition, at the expense of Director Patel.' The network declined comment on the matter when reached by Tuesday afternoon. Figliuzzi made the allegation in early May, just months into Patel's tenure as FBI Director, appointed by Donald Trump. 'Reportedly, he's been visible at nightclubs far more than he has been on the seventh floor of the Hoover building,' Figliuzzi said on Morning Joe. Liberal journalist and co-host Jonathan Lemire introduced the mea culpa the following Monday, mentioning that Figliuzzi had been on the show before explaining that he had nothing. 'At the end of that segment, Figliuzzi said that FBI Director Kash Patel has been more visible at nightclubs than the FBI headquarters. This was a misstatement. We have not verified that claim,' Lemire said. Lemire then tossed to commercial break without any apology. The FBI has declined comment on the matter. has reached out to both the White House and MSNBC for comment. Figliuzzi told Lemire Friday that Patel frequents nightclubs more than he does the seventh floor of the Hoover building, where the FBI offices are located. 'And there are reports that daily briefings to him have been changed from every day to maybe twice weekly,' he added. Figliuzzi explained that Patel's absence is a 'blessing and a curse,' due to his lack of experience in the field. 'If he's really trying to run things without his experience, without any experience level, things could be bad. If he's not plugged in, things could be bad. But he's allowing agents to run things so we don't know where this is going,' Figliuzzi confessed. The former FBI assistant director claimed Patel frequently splits his time between the office in Washington, DC, and his home in Las Vegas, citing reports from the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. Figliuzzi added that he's heard Patel decreased briefings from a daily schedule to only twice a week. He concluded that the one word he keeps hearing in his circles is 'chaos' and revealed that employees don't know what's happening. Patel was an unlikely pick for the position, having no experience as an FBI agent. He began his career as a public defender and served in the Department of Justice as a national security prosecutor. He was also an advisor on national security and senior counsel for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Patel founded The Kash Foundation and served as deputy director of National Intelligence before he was confirmed as the ninth Director of the FBI. He's had a rocky journey thus far, coming under fire last week for announcing the arrest of Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan. 'Just NOW, the FBI arrested Judge Hannah Dugan out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on charges of obstruction — after evidence of Judge Dugan obstructing an immigration arrest operation last week,' Patel wrote on his official X account. 'We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest.' The post was then mysteriously deleted before it was reposted two hours later without explanation. Judge Dugan was arrested and charged with two felony counts of obstruction and concealing an individual for allegedly helping an undocumented migrant from getting arrested after he appeared in her courtroom. Patel also came under fire from Senate Democrats who recently launched an inquiry into his personal travel on a government aircraft, CBS News reported. Rumors swirled that Patel used the FBI's private fleet of jets to visit his girlfriend and attend sporting events, including a UFC fight and a hockey game, where he was pictured sitting next to Wayne Gretzky.

Tragic mum, 31, 'stabbed to death by pupil' pictured for first time

A 14-year-old French schoolboy is facing 20 eyars in prison after allegedly stabbing a teaching assistant to death after she asked to search his bag for weapons. A young teaching assistant who was stabbed to death by a teenage pupil in a horror knife attack at a school in France has been pictured for the first time. Known only as Melanie G, the single mum and former hairdresser, was looking for concealed weapons alongside a police officer - in line with national education policy - at the gates of Françoise Dolto secondary school in Nogent-sur-Marne, near Paris when the horror unfolded around 8.30am on Tuesday, reports the Mirror. ‌ She had only started the job last year, giving up her career in hairdressing to spend more time with her little boy. ‌ French police say the 14-year-old schoolboy was tonight facing 20 years in prison after allegedly stabbing the 31-year-old teaching assistant to death after she asked to search his bag for knives. The incident followed a spate of school knife attacks in France, including one in April, when a teenage girl was stabbed to death and three others were wounded at a school in Nantes, in the west of the country. A source investigating the Nogent attack said: "The boy responsible was uninjured, after stabbing his victim multiple times. He was soon restrained by staff, and then arrested by the police officer present at the bag check." The source added: "One of the arresting officers suffered a slight cut to the hand." Referring to the alleged killer, the source said: "He is now in custody, and facing up to 20 years in prison if found guilty in a youth court of a deliberate killing." ‌ Local prosecutor Denis Devallois confirmed that a criminal enquiry had been launched into the killing, and that the perpetrator faced prison. The boy who cannot be named for legal reasons had been arrested twive from the school for disruptive behaviour, and was a student representative in the school's anti-bullying programme, claimed the source. ‌ Following today's killing, French President Emmanuel Macron described a "senseless wave of violence" in France. He added: "We all stand with [Melanie G.'s] family, her loved ones, her colleagues and the entire educational community. The nation is in mourning and the government is mobilised to reduce crime." Mélanie G. lived in Sarcey, around seven miles from Nogent, where she also worked as a municipal councillor. Paying tribute, her sister-in-law said: "She was funny, gentle, and very kind, and had one goal – to look after her child. She gave up hairdressing because she wanted more days off to be with him." Last month, France's Education Ministry announced that 958 bag checks in schools had resulted in the seizure of 94 knives across the country.
