El Paso Water begins construction on Pure Water Center in Texas, US
El Paso Water (EPWater), a municipal utility, has initiated construction on the Pure Water Center, previously called the Advanced Water Purification Facility, in Texas, US.
The project is aimed at providing 'sustainable, high-quality' drinking water for the community in El Paso.
The ground-breaking ceremony, attended by local, state, and federal leaders, also served as the platform to unveil the facility's new name.
EPWater president and CEO John Balliew said: "After years of planning, design and thousands of water-quality tests, we are excited to begin construction on the Pure Water Center.
"This is the next step in El Paso's long history of water reuse, and we hope it will serve as a model for other communities facing water-related challenges."
EPWater has been working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for over a decade to ensure the water produced will meet all state and federal safe drinking water standards.
TCEQ granted final design approval late last year, paving the way for construction to commence.
The Roberto Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant will provide treated water for the facility.
The treated water will then undergo a purification process involving several steps, including membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, UV light with advanced oxidation, granular activated carbon filtration, and chlorine disinfection, to surpass drinking water quality standards.
US-based Carollo Engineers has designed the Pure Water Center. The construction will soon begin with the PCL/Sundt joint venture.
Once completed, the facility will supply an additional ten million gallons of drinking water a day to the residents of El Paso.
The Pure Water Center will not only be a hub for water purification but also an educational resource.
A visitor centre is planned to provide insights into water sources, supplies, environmental stewardship, and advanced processes for water treatment.
In 2019, the US Bureau of Reclamation provided $3.5m for the facility's design and committed another $20m in 2022 for construction.
With a total estimated project cost of $295m, EPWater is actively seeking further state and federal funding.
The construction of the Pure Water Center is expected to be completed by 2028.
In January this year, PCL Construction opened a Manufacturing Center of Excellence, focusing on increased investment in reshoring production for the US and Canada.

Circle's stock (CRCL) made its public debut on June 5 and instantly became one of the most-watched listings in crypto and finance. After opening at $69, the USD Coin (USDC) issuer surged as high as $120 within four days, triggering chatter that Circle could surpass even Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy (MSTR) in long-term profitability. In a widely shared post on X, BitMEX Research wrote, 'The Circle [$CRCL] market cap has now reached 50% of the USDC in circulation. This would give Circle an 'infinite money glitch', which unlike $MSTR, would also be risk free.' They later added, 'If $CRCL goes up another 100%, it can start to become a US$ 'treasury company'. Selling its own shares, to buy more US$...'X. Since IPO, CRCL has gained nearly 70%, while MicroStrategy has climbed a more measured 5.7% in the same period. But with rapid growth comes heightened volatility. On June 10 alone, CRCL dropped more than 8%, signaling that the honeymoon may be over, at least for now. Technically, Circle looks overheated. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) for CRCL sits at approximately 74, indicating overbought conditions and a likely cooldown ahead. Its MACD line, which surged in the days after the IPO, is now flattening, and the histogram has begun to decline, potential early signs of weakening bullish momentum. MicroStrategy's RSI, by contrast, is a healthier 62, suggesting it's still in a bullish range but not yet overbought. Its MACD shows a solid upward trend, indicating growing strength without the kind of parabolic action that often precedes a reversal. MSTR continues its slow, steady climb, bolstered by Bitcoin exposure and a seasoned investor base that's weathered several crypto cycles. Its price floor around $370 appears strong, offering a safer long-term bet, especially for those wary of post-IPO euphoria. Even so, industry analysts agree. Circle's path is unique. The company holds over $24 billion in U.S. Treasuries, operates the second-largest stablecoin in the world, and now trades publicly with a valuation nearing $24 billion. Its listing also comes at a time when institutional demand for stablecoin rails and tokenized financial infrastructure is heating up. In fact, the Illinois-based grocer just announced that it's slashing prices on nearly 25% of its inventory ahead of the official start of summer. The savings are slated to impact more than 400 items overall, across all of Aldi's 2,400+ stores nationwide. Ryan Lochte Could Be Forced Out Of His Florida Home Amid His Divorce From Estranged Wife
The divorce proceedings for Ryan Lochte and his estranged wife, Kayla Reid, have taken a dark turn since the initial news of their separation became public. Now, in a new filing, Reid is demanding sole use of one of their Florida homes, which the Olympic swimmer has pushed back on. In the legal documents, Reid also requested alimony, child support, and primary custody of their three children: Caiden, Liv, and Georgia. According to a report from Us Weekly, Reid, who filed for divorce from the Olympic Gold Medalist in March 2025, recently asked the court to grant her exclusive use of their home in Terrace, Florida. The report explains that Reid needs "the exclusive use of this home and the contents thereof, both now and in the future, for herself and the minor children." As of now, Lochte is reportedly residing at another home worth nearly $450,000, and has been doing so since March of this year. Reid's requests in the filing didn't stop there, though. Us Weekly also reports that the former Playboy Playmate claims Lochte took specific joint assets and income during their marriage and purchased other assets, some of which he put in his name. '[Those] assets are presently being held by [Ryan] in trust for and for all the benefit of [Kayla], and the court should award to [Kayla] her full interest in said assets,' her filing read. Additionally, Reid asked the court for a portion of the money from Lochte's businesses, including Lochte Enterprises LLC and Legendaryswimming LLC, claiming she had contributed significant time and effort to help improve these companies. '[Kayla] makes a claim for equitable distribution of the corporate defendant because she has been of great assistance of [Ryan], only in the marital business but also in terms of providing a home environment which supported [Ryan's] needs in every respect," the filing read. Per Us Weekly, Reid stated that the "marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken" in her divorce filing. The Florida-based real estate agent also stated that she was the primary caretaker of their three children before requesting the court grant her "sole parental responsibility." The 33-year-old also said that she's unable to support their children without Lochte's help and requested that the court award her child support and alimony, adding that she needs 'rehabilitative alimony to assist her financially while acquiring sufficient education, retraining, developing skill and/or improving her employment and income.' Reid's petition also requests that Lochte pay her attorney's fees. In his response, Lochte acknowledged that they own a Florida home together; however, he did not support her request to be granted exclusive use of the estate. He also denied the mother of three's claims about her participation in one of his businesses. The Olympian filed a counter-petition to Reid's divorce filing, too, stating in his documents that their official date of separation was April 2025. Lochte, 40, also requested that the court establish a parenting plan, determine child support, and divide their shared assets. According to a previous report from The Blast, Reid opened up about filing for divorce from Lochte in an Instagram post, where she described the decision to end her marriage as one of the most challenging she's ever had to make. "Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection," Reid wrote online. "I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. I've been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds." She continued, "Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. I've come to the understanding that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love — for those around me and for myself." Lochte also addressed the news in a separate post, where he said divorcing was the "right step toward peace and well-being for us both." "I remain committed to healing, growth, and co-parenting with care and respect as we move forward separately," he finished.
