Middle East plunging into abyss of instability and war, says Kremlin

St Petersburg, June 20 (UNI) The Middle East region is now plunging into the abyss of instability and war, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
"First of all, the countries of the region (West Asia/Middle East) should set a red line, because this region is now plunging into the abyss of instability and war," Peskov told reporters on the sidelines of the 2025 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), reports Daily Observer.
The aggravation of the situation in the Middle East is fraught with the expansion of geography and involvement of new participants, Peskov said.
"We are concerned. You know, we have repeatedly said that President Vladmir Putin has the potential to offer mediation terms if necessary. No one imposes them. It is just that the relations we have with Iran, Israel, and other states and regions allow us to provide such services, if necessary. It is difficult to say whether they will be in demand," Peskov said.
While Moscow has been supporting Iran in the conflict, it has maintained strong back-channel talks with Jerusalem, in the hopes of cooling down tensions. Both countries have channels to facilitate dialogue, said Peskov.
'So far we see Israel's desire is to continue fighting, at least that is how they officially declare these intentions," Peskov said.
Israel has made it clear that it won't back down from the conflict, which it said is aimed at the complete destruction of Iran's nuclear infrastructure.
There is hope and opportunity for diplomatic efforts for the situation in the Middle East, Peskov added.
Iran has also refused to back down, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini instructing the Armed Forces to intensify their attacks on Israel, in order to 'punish the Zionist state.'

Addressing the soldiers at 'Badakhana' organised in Udhampur, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that Operation Sindoor is an example of how we have a capability to deal with terrorism today. 'The way our armed forces and intelligence agencies together destroyed terrorist hideouts across the border has not only sent a message to the terrorists but also to their patrons that… this is a new India, which will strongly counter any form of terrorism," Singh said. 'This was not just a military operation; it was a warning. To the terrorists sitting across the border, and even more so—to those who harbor them," he added. Singh was in Jammu & Kashmir's Udhampur on Friday to be a part of the Yoga Day celebrations and interact with Armed Forces personnel stationed at the Udhampur Cantonment. Naxalism will be completely wiped out from the Country: PM Modi

Bhubaneswar, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that Naxalism will be completely eradicated from the country, emphasizing that "this is Modi's guarantee." Addressing the first anniversary celebration of the BJP government in Odisha, the Prime Minister said that at one point, Naxal violence had spread across more than 100 districts in the country, forming what was known as the "Red Corridor." He stated that it was the BJP government that took strong and decisive action against the Naxal insurgents, whose violent activities were obstructing development in tribal regions. Modi noted that the BJP-led government prioritized the development of tribal areas and successfully gained the trust of the tribal population. As a result, Naxal-related violence has significantly declined and is now limited to only 20 districts nationwide. The Prime Minister firmly reiterated that Naxalism will be completely rooted out from the country, adding, "This is Modi's guarantee." UNI DP GNK
