Indonesian, French firms partner up to develop efuels
JAKARTA: (Bernama-Xinhua) PT Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE), a sub-holding of Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, is collaborating with French firm MGH Energy to explore breakthroughs in the production of e-fuels, an official said on Wednesday (June 4), reported Xinhua.
The partnership, formalised during the Indonesia-France Business Forum on May 28, focuses on the development of e-methanol and eSAF (e-sustainable aviation fuel), according to John Anis, CEO of PT Pertamina NRE.
"Indonesia has a huge potential of renewable resources, from solar to hydro, which could be the basis for industrial-scale e-fuel production," said Anis in a statement issued Wednesday.
He added that this strategic collaboration not only aims to develop innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions but also represents a valuable opportunity for technology transfer. It is expected to accelerate both the production and adoption of renewable energy in Indonesia.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, vice president of corporate communication at PT Pertamina, emphasised the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change and achieving national environmental goals.
"PT Pertamina NRE plays an important role in the transition to clean energy. This collaboration is a strategic step towards a more sustainable, fair, and open energy system," he said.

Following earlier crossings that handle over 5 million vehicles annually, the new bridge is projected to start with 1,200 vehicles per day, increasing to 3,000 within five years.

Jakarta expects to conclude free trade talks with EU this month

(EPA Images pic) JAKARTA : Indonesia said today that free trade negotiations with the European Union, which have been going on for nine years, are expected to finish by the end of June. Airlangga Hartarto, the chief economic minister for Southeast Asia's biggest economy, met with EU commissioner for trade Maros Sefcovic in Brussels yesterday. 'Indonesia and the European Union have agreed to conclude outstanding issues and we are ready to announce a conclusion of substantial negotiations by the end of June 2025,' Airlangga said in a statement. He did not disclose details about what agreements may have been reached. Denis Chaibi, EU ambassador to Indonesia, said: 'Negotiations are ongoing and substance will determine timing. We will communicate in details when we have an outcome.' The EU is Indonesia's fifth biggest trade partner, with total trade between the two reaching US$30.1 billion last year. Indonesia had a US$4.5 billion trade surplus, Airlangga said. Indonesia and the EU have previously disagreed on EU trade rules for products with potential links to deforestation that could affect Indonesian palm oil, as well as Jakarta's ban on exports of raw minerals. Indonesian officials have been motivated to accelerate talks on free trade agreements, keen to diversify the country's export destinations as they deal with US tariff challenges. Seeking to end US trade deficits worldwide, US President Donald Trump announced sweeping 'reciprocal' tariffs that have since been paused until July. Indonesia is facing a 32% tariff rate.
