Steelers WR DK Metcalf praises 'jitterbug' Calvin Austin: 'He's explosive as heck'
Steelers WR Calvin Austin III could be in for a Year 4 breakout — and it wouldn't surprise DK Metcalf one bit.
At mandatory minicamp, Metcalf wasted little time complimenting what makes Austin stand out (courtesy of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette):
'[Calvin Austin III's] a jitterbug out there, but he's explosive as heck,' Metcalf said. 'Just looking forward to lining up with him for the rest of these last couple days of camp and then moving on to training camp, and then just starting to work off each other in different route concepts.'
Steelers wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni also spoke highly of Austin at mandatory minicamp — saying the fourth-year wide receiver is slated for the WR2 role, and could potentially work as the primary receiver due to the differences between him and Metcalf.
Here's to hoping Austin's explosiveness — a quality that had Metcalf in awe — will translate well with the addition of new Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers on offense.

After being selected No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL draft, the rookie two-way player is still in negotiations with the Jaguars on his rookie deal. Rapoport reported that the prolonged dialogue between he two sides should not cause Hunter to hold out. Hunter has been practicing with the team during both OTAs and this past week's mandatory minicamp. "I don't expect a holdout," Rapoport reported. "We rarely, rarely, rarely see a holdout, but I do think this will take some time. If you're talking about Jaguars fans, you're talking about Jaguars people, I don't think they have anything to worry about ause he's almost certaintly going to be participating in training camp. You'd think they will figure out a way to get it done by then." Hunter is projected to sign a four-year contract worth approximately $46 million with a signing bonus upwards of $30 million, according to Spotrac. Rapoport also said he "feels" Hunter will be the final first-rounder to sign his contract. Hunter has been impressing during practices this spring, shining at both wide receiver and cornerback. He and quarterback Travor Lawrence have been forming a strong connection during workouts this spring. In his final season at Colorado, Hunter won the Heisman Trophy while racking up a Big 12-leading 96 receptions for 1,258 receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns, leading to the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in college football. On defense, Hunter racked up 36 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four interceptions, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. Wisconsin football has a new highest-ranked commit in the class of 2026 Wisconsin football landed a commitment from class of 2026 three-star defensive back Zachary Taylor on Friday. Taylor chose the Badgers over top contenders Houston, Texas Tech and TCU. He completed visits to the latter two on June 3 and May 2, respectively, plus was scheduled to visit Houston on June 19. Just one full week after his June 6 official visit to Madison, Wisconsin, Taylor pledged to the Badgers. 247Sports ranks the Fulshear, Texas, native as the No. 540 overall player in the class of 2026, the No. 43 cornerback and the No. 76 recruit from his home state. He became Wisconsin's 12th commitment in the 2026 cycle. Notably, he is now the highest-ranked recruit of that group, edging three-star defensive lineman Djidjou Bah. His commitment pushed the class up to No. 35 nationally and No. 12 in the Big Ten. Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell and his staff are working to deliver a third consecutive top-25 recruiting class. While the program's 2026 class is a significant distance from that threshold, partially because it is still looking for its first blue-chip commit, several of its top targets remain uncommitted.
