The top 20 things Brits want to say yes to for the first time has also been revealed YES YEARS Exact age Brits are most likely to say 'yes' to new opportunities is revealed in study Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) "YES" - the age at which Brits are most likely to agree to new opportunities has been revealed in a new survey. A poll of 2,000 adults found 39 per cent are determined to say 'yes' more often while 69 per cent admit they 'play it safe' in life. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 5 The survey found 39% of Brits want to say 'yes' more Credit: Getty It also emerged that just 26 per cent of over 35s feel they are more likely to say yes to opportunities now, than they did 20 years ago. While the average adult typically turns something down as often as twice a week, it has been revealed that 27 is the age when someone is most likely to say yes to new opportunities. Of those who felt the opposite, being settled into a routine (41 per cent) was considered the biggest barrier, while others blamed life being more complicated now (35 per cent), being too tired (33 per cent) and wanting to plan things in advance (33 per cent). And 59 per cent hope to be less 'afraid' of taking on new challenges in the future. Danny Wallace said: "Twenty years ago I decided to say 'yes' to whatever came my way… and it led to the best adventures. 'I went places I would never have gone and I met people I'd never have met. I tried new things and made new memories. So, when Halfords asked me to celebrate twenty years by hopping in a car and trying more new stuff, it would have been weird to say no. 5 Climbing a mountain was the 12th most sought after opportunity Credit: Getty 'Even though when they asked me if I'd like 'to go sea kayaking', I thought they meant they were just going to take me to 'see kayaking', which would have been a lot easier. 'That said, saying yes more is something we should all try and build into our days. 'Yes to something different or new. I wholeheartedly support you doing the same this summer.' The study also revealed the top things Brits would like to try for the first time, with mastering a foreign language topping the list (21 per cent). Others would like to skydive or learn a musical instrument (both 15 per cent) or even move abroad (14 per cent). Go to more gigs and concerts (13 per cent), get a tattoo (13 per cent) and run a marathon (12 per cent) also featured in the top 20 list. 5 Sixty-two percent of Brits would try things if they could prepare for it Credit: Getty Commissioned via OnePoll, it also found 27 per cent have been told by others that they should say yes more often. But 62 per cent reckon they'd be much more inclined to try something new if they were able to prepare for it in advance. Paul Ray, from Halfords, which is encouraging people to give their car a 'Free 5 Point Summer Check' to ensure it's ready for adventure, said: 'While Brits might get set in their ways, 62 per cent feel they would be more likely to say YES if they felt ready for anything, especially when the sun's out and the kids are off school. TOP 20 THINGS BRITS WOULD LIKE TO SAY YES TO FOR THE FIRST TIME 1. Master a foreign language 2. Skydive 3. Learn a musical instrument 4. Move abroad 5. Move to the countryside 6. Go to more gigs and concerts 7. Retire 8. Get a tattoo 9. Go down a zip wire 10. Run a marathon 11. Learn how to dance 12. Climb a mountain 13. Try surfing 14. Travel solo 15. Start a new career 16. "Whether it's trying something new, meeting someone unexpected, or stepping slightly out of your comfort zone, those small yeses can add up to big life shifts. 'Don't let worrying about the car be the reason you say 'no' to a last-minute trip to the beach or a spontaneous camping weekend.'

Meet the 80-year-old granny battling billionaires with her Derby ‘superstar' tinged with sadness

Victory in the world's most famous Flat race would be 26 years in the making VIP OAP Meet the 80-year-old granny battling billionaires with her Derby 'superstar' tinged with sadness Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) SHE is the 80-year-old granny battling the billionaires with her Derby 'superstar'. In what has been billed as the ultimate David vs Goliath showdown, this 'proud Yorkshirewoman' with just six horses is daring to dream in the world's most prestigious race. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Vimy Aykroyd, second from right, is the 80-year-old gran taking on the billionaires with her Derby 'superstar' Pride Of Arras Credit: Steven Cargill / 3 Victory in the Derby would be a dream come true, although tinged with sadness as Vimy's husband David is in care with dementia and is unaware the horse is running in the world's most famous Flat race Credit: PA Meet Vimy Aykroyd, racing royalty, rebel and the owner of 5-1 chance Pride Of Arras. At stake is the small matter of £900,000 for victory, a place in history and a lucrative, money-spinning career at stud for their three-year-old colt. But also the realisation of a dream that started 26 years ago when Vimy first sent horses to trainer Ralph Beckett. Their families are intertwined, with Vimy having spent time with the Becketts growing up. When Ralph, son of trainer William, started his own yard in 1999, Vimy - Lavinia for full - was one of the first to send him horses. In the years since Beckett has pretty much done it all. Millions upon millions in prize money, Arc de Triomphe victory with Bluestocking last year, Group 1s galore and Royal Ascot success. But he's never won the Derby. Over the past decade, the 1m4f race over the undulating, rolling Epsom track has been a happy hunting ground for the billionaire tycoons who dominate the sport. Since 2017 it has been won by either Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed - under his Godolphin operation - or the all-conquering Coolmore group, made up of Irish racing boss John Magnier and British former bookies Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. Only in 2017, with Desert Crown, did it go to someone else - Dubai businessman Saeed Suhail. In fact, you have to go to diamond dealer Anthony Oppenheimer in 2015 for the last sole British owner to win the Derby, when he did it with Golden Horn. It's a tough gig when you're literally battling those with the financial might of an entire country behind them. But Vimy's more than used to overcoming adversity. 3 Sadly Vimy's husband David - her late husband's brother - seen here with Vimy in 2021, is now in a care home with dementia So can he win? Templegate's verdict By Steve Mullen (Templegate) PRIDE OF ARRAS absolutely can win the Derby. It may not have been a vintage Dante he won at York last time but Ralph Beckett's colt showed real class to get the job done. He really enjoyed stepping up to 1m2f and screams that he'll love the Derby distance too. There is lots of stamina in his pedigree but no shortage of speed either. It was good to see him accelerate once getting a gap on the Knavesmire and the Dante winning time was decent too. That was just his second run - and it came after nine months off - so you would expect a lot more from this talented colt. Beckett knows what it takes to win at the highest level and there is still some 5-1 about which looks an each-way bet to nothing. I would be surprised if he was outside the first three in the big race. Mischievous by nature, she wasn't always the best student and racing was in her blood given her grandad won the Grand National in 1891. When women were allowed to ride in Flat races for the first time in 1972 she naturally took part and won on a horse called Old Cock. Personal life took over when she moved to Spain with husband Richard Aykroyd - but he died from cancer in 1997. Vimy returned to London and then Yorkshire, where she married her late husband's brother David, who has been described as 'the epitome of the English gentleman'. Sadly, the Telegraph report that he is now in a care home with dementia and unaware their beloved horse is running in the world's most famous Flat race. Pride Of Arras was 50-1 for the Derby before he won the Dante at York - the key trial for the Epsom contest - last month. Beckett was bullish of his chances in the big one immediately after and there is no doubt he is the big British hope this year. A fairytale story, victory and overcoming odds? Sounds like Vimy Aykroyd all over. From ‘Mean Girl' Trump to Musk leading a Russian coup – internet's best reactions to the explosive Don v Elon clash

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ELON Musk sent the internet into a crazy spiral on Thursday as he publicly lashed out at former friend Donald Trump on X. The US president was quick to hit back at the Tesla boss with several bitter barbs of his own as their feud suddenly reignited in front of the world. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 15 Elon Musk sent the internet into a crazy spiral on Thursday as he publicly lashed out at former friend Donald Trump on X Credit: AFP 15 Social media exploded as Trump and Musk publicly went at each other online Credit: X 15 Some described it as 'the MAGA powers exploding' in a clever call back to one of the most iconic wrestling feuds between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage Credit: X The internet had been eagerly watching the nuclear dispute as it unfolded after hours of outlandish Jefferey Epstein claims and brutal impeachment barbs by Musk. Trump hit back on Truth Social saying Elon was "wearing thin" around the White House. He later warned the US government could end all federal contracts with Musk's companies if the insults continued to fly. Here are social media's best reactions to the intense clash between the two mega powers. Mean girl Trump Famous 2004 film Mean Girls has managed to create a long lasting legacy online with the Trump/Musk feud now even being linked to the movie. The picture shared online is taken from the perspective of Musk who is looking at the iconic "Burn Book" from the film. 15 Trump's face has been added to the page in place of Mean Girl's villain Regina George Credit: X Trump's face has been added to the page in place of Mean Girl's villain Regina George. The text above the image is the exact same as in the movie which says: "This girl is the nastiest skank b***h I've ever met. Do NOT TRUST HER. She is a fugly s***!" Trump's Stalinist purge One of the quickest memes to emerge from the explosive fallout was an expertly AI generated image of a steely-faced Trump dressed as Soviet tyrant Joseph Stalin. A smiley Musk was stood next to him. But a second image posted alongside it showed Musk suddenly disappearing from the picture. The two-part joke was hinting at a possible "Great Purge" being ordered by Trump similar to what Stalin ordered in the mid 1930s. 15 A clever AI generated image portrayed Trump as Soviet tyrant Joseph Stalin and Musk as one of his purged officials Credit: X 15 The real picture of Stalin which was edited with the faces of Musk and Trump Credit: Alamy The purge - also known as the Great Terror - is a damning historical period which saw Stalin axe dozens of his political allies in the Soviet Union. Any threat to Stalin's regime was made to go through sham trials which resulted in them being removed from any form of power. The government claimed they were getting rid of suspected party dissenters. The meme was posted shortly after Trump announced on Truth Social that he in fact asked Musk to leave his role within the US government. The president said the SpaceX chief was "wearing thin" and "went crazy" during his final weeks close to the White House. Musk's Russian-style coup Musk is a famously persuasive man with him even claiming on Thursday he is the main reason why America re-elected Trump. This created a whole load of hilarious comments and tweets on X as some jokingly ordered Musk to launch a coup on Washington. One of the viral posts featured an image of the billionaire in a khaki jacket pointing at the camera. 15 One of the viral posts featured an image of the billionaire in a khaki jacket pointing at the camera Credit: X 15 The pose was an echo of Wagner leader Prigozhin when he launched a botched coup on Moscow 15 Musk claimed on Thursday he is the main reason why America re-elected Trump Credit: X The pose and outfit had a striking similarity to Wagner group leader Prigozhin who launched a botched coup against Putin by marching on Moscow. It was followed by the caption: "Reports that Muskovite forces led by Elon Musk are preparing to march on Washington." The term Muskovite has been used before by Russian state television. In October 2023, they hailed the world's richest man after he posted a meme of himself ridiculing Ukraine for asking for US aid during the war. In response, Kremlin TV presenter Olga Skabeyeva described the tech mogul as "Elon the Muscovite" on Russia-1. Billionaire for billionaire As Trump and Musk's relationship capitulated before the internet's eyes, many users jumped at the chance to speculate on a potential replacement to join Trump's inner circle. The leading candidate was Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The Zuck and Elon already share a number of similarities. They both sit at the very top of the official world's rich list with Musk at number one and Zuckerberg sat just behind in second. 15 Some speculated that Trump may simply replace Musk with Mark Zuckerberg Credit: X 15 Zuckerberg and Musk were joined by fellow billionaires Jeff Bezos and Sundar Pichai at Trump's inauguration ceremony Credit: AP And both men own major social media platforms. Musk famously acquired Twitter and transformed it into X whereas Zuckerberg created Facebook, now Meta, in 2004. Trump already has a growing relationship with Zuckerberg after Meta donated $1m (£786,000) to an inauguration fund for the president. The pair also shared dinner together at Mar-a-Lago in November. But much like with Musk, the two have shared a turbulent past. In 2017, Trump hit out at Facebook for being "anti-Trump" after the platform banned his account following the Capitol riots on January, 6, 2021. Cybertruck conundrum Two of the most liked memes circulating around the internet on Thursday featured Tesla Cybertrucks. The powerful beasts are the brainchild of Musk and his remarkable staff at Tesla factories across the US. But for one unlucky motorist his Cybertruck may be forced to stay in the garage forever after the public spat. An image shows a parked up Tesla with the American flag emblazoned on the side in truly patriotic fashion. 15 15 Musk even joined Trump back on the stage where the president was shot Credit: AFP But superimposed over the top is the image of a defiant Trump just seconds after he was shot in the ear at a rally in Pennsylvania last year. The legendary photo shows the bleeding Republican with his fist raised high in the air as secret service agents crowd around him. The moment is notable in regards to the Trump/Musk feud as the assassination attempt is believed to be one of the main reasons why Musk joined team Trump. 15 The second Tesla related meme shows the burning wreckage of a Cybertruck sat next to Trump Hotel in Las Vegas Credit: X It has even been revealed that Trump is yet to remove the Cybertruck he was gifted by Musk from the White House parking garage. The second Tesla related meme shows the burning wreckage of a Cybertruck sat next to Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. The image is taken from the tragic New Year's Day incident when former soldier Matthew Livelsberger shot himself in the head just seconds before blowing up the Tesla. The X user suggests the flaming Cybertruck is comparable to how Musk has ignited a fiery feud with Trump.
