ATM urges calm and child-centred approach amid allegations involving Kaamilah Paulse
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has called for calm and responsibility in the wake of public allegations against prominent Cape Town attorney Kaamilah Paulse, stressing the need to prioritise the rights and well-being of children entangled in ongoing legal disputes.
In a media statement released Tuesday, ATM President Vuyo Zungula said the party was deeply concerned about the emotional and psychological toll the matter may have on the children involved. 'At the heart of this issue are the lives and well-being of children,' Zungula said.
'It is essential that all public discourse and legal processes keep their best interests as the top priority.'
The statement comes amid mounting controversy following a ruling by the Legal Practice Council (LPC) Appeals Tribunal, which found prima facie evidence of professional misconduct by Paulse. She stands accused of using legal tactics to alienate a Johannesburg father, Asif Casoojee, from his children.
Paulse is currently a senior attorney at Herold Gie Attorneys. Casoojee complained about being denied access to his children over a four-year legal battle with his ex-wife, whom Paulse represents.
The Tribunal ruled in March that Paulse had improperly obtained a protection order without ensuring due process and had actively contributed to restricting Casoojee's access to his children, including their school and medical records.
The Tribunal labelled her actions as 'parental alienation' and criticised her for failing to adequately respond to serious allegations, including her involvement in a WhatsApp group where confidential financial information about Casoojee was shared.
ATM has urged the Legal Practice Council to continue holding legal professionals to the highest standards. 'Our justice system depends on ethical conduct and public trust,' said Zungula.

'I am already in trouble with Oscar as I'm sitting here, because I said too much,' Pistorius said. 'We don't [speak regularly] because he knows how I feel. To him, he's guilty of murder because of the process that he's gone through. The facts just do not support a finding of guilty of murder.' On 14 February 2013, Pistorius shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp at his home in Pretoria. A year later, he was initially found guilty of culpable homicide and sentenced to five years in prison This conviction was then overturned by South Africa's Supreme Court in 2016, which instead found him guilty of murder and extended his sentence by a further six years. Pistorius was released from prison on parole in January 2024. KZN siblings shot dead while sleeping in bed
Two KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) siblings were fatally shot while sleeping in bed at their home in Intaphuka, Ndwedwe, on Thursday, 29 May 2025. The two brothers, aged 26 and 29, were found unresponsive in their shared bed. According to Reaction Unit South Africa, three suspects forcefully entered the residence of the victims. The suspects shot both victims and stole their phones before fleeing the scene. Speaking to The South African, RUSA spokesperson said that the suspects have not been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing. In other news, suspects broke into a high school in Inhlabamkhosi and stole computers and projectors 'Two projectors were recovered abandoned. It is believed that the suspects involved were also linked to the double murder (of the siblings), but this could not be immediately confirmed,' said RUSA. A 17-year-old girl was found dead inside a locked shack in Kinross after she went missing on 23 May 2025. Police received a request to search a residence believed to be associated with the victim's stepfather. Upon arriving at the shack, police found the doors and burglar gates locked. They forcefully entered the shack and found the naked body of a young female in a semi-decomposed state, believed to be the missing teenager. 'She was lying on a bed covered with blankets, [and] her legs were open. The victim had visible head injuries, including a deep wound and a crushed forehead. It is suspected that she was raped before being killed,' the police said. Additionally, a bloodstained pipe wrench was found next to the bed and was allegedly used in carrying out the murder. Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim argued with her stepfather after he wanted to sell the shack that once belonged to her late mother. 'The teenager had reportedly objected, expressing concern for her younger siblings, who would need a place to stay in the future,' the police statement read. Investigations link the stepfather to the murder of the victim. He is also in police custody for allegedly being involved in murdering his 34-year-old girlfriend on the same day the victim went missing. He is now a suspect in both murders. Main suspect in murder of Olerato Mongale shot dead in KZN
KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that the main suspect in the murder of Wits student Olerato Mongale, Philangenkosi Makhanya has been killed in a shootout with police. The suspect was shot and killed in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday morning, 30 May. As previously reported, Mongale was brutally murdered at the weekend and dumped in a sidewalk in Lombardy, Johannesburg just two hours after she had informed her loved ones that she was going on a date at the weekend. The 30-year-old reportedly met the man in Bloemfontein, Free State, last week and they agreed to meet in Johannesburg. On Thursday, 29 May, police confirmed that they have launched a manhunt for three suspects in connection with the murder of the Wits student from Free State. South African Police Service (SAPS) national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said investigations are continuing and the search for all suspects has reached a critical and sensitive stage.
