Who won 'Survivor'? How Texas finalist Mitch Guerra fared in Season 48 finale
The torches have been snuffed, the million-dollar check has been cashed, and 'Survivor' Season 48 has officially crowned its victor. But for Texans everywhere, the real story might just be the heartbreaking, yet utterly Texan, exit of Waco's own Mitch Guerra, a 34-year-old P.E. coach who brought a little bit of the Lone Star State's grit to the shores of Fiji.
While Brooklyn attorney Kyle Fraser ultimately outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted the competition to claim the $1 million prize in a nail-biting 5-2-1 jury vote, our local hero, Mitch Guerra, ended his Fijian adventure as the seventh member of the jury.
Host Jeff Probst, ever the master of dramatic understatement, promised "blood" in the finale, and he delivered. The final five – Mitch, Kyle, Kamilla Karthigesu, Joe Hunter, and Eva Erickson – went through more twists and turns than a Texas two-step. Kamilla, in a stunning comeback that would make any Friday Night Lights coach proud, went from dead last in a puzzle to snagging the first immunity. Eva, meanwhile, was packing an idol that made her as untouchable as a rodeo clown on a good day.
But alas, the tides of 'Survivor' can turn quickly. Despite the alliances and whispered plans, our P.E. coach found himself on the chopping block. The combined forces of Kyle, Joe, and Eva, seemingly worried that Mitch would charm his way to the end, sent him packing to the jury bench.
Mitch became the latest addition to the jury, where he joined a distinguished group of fellow castaways, including another fellow Texan, Star Toomey from Augusta.
The final immunity challenge saw Kyle snagging the win and taking Joe with him to the final three, leaving Kamilla and Eva to battle it out in the dreaded fire-making showdown. Eva powered through, securing her spot in the final three.
So, while the million dollars may be heading to Brooklyn, Texas can hold its head high, knowing that one of our own made it to the final stages of Season 48. Mitch Guerra might not have brought home the cash, but he certainly brought a little bit of Texas to Fiji. And who knows, maybe next season, we'll see a contestant whose only advantage is a perfectly smoked brisket.

'He had to retire because the doctor said he had more ulcer than stomach. What are you gonna do?' Meanwhile, in a moment parodying the real technology lag in control towers, Mejia's young worker is shown confused when faced with a floppy disk, opting to put it into the toaster. 'It's a lot like a video game, except we can never hit pause, there are no extra lives and instead of NPCs, it's you and your loved ones,' her character says. As the filming of the parody gets interrupted by power outages ('Dave, one flush, we talked about this!' Benjamin yells out to Howery's character), Mejia's plea to her colleagues to return from a photo op — 'I'm juggling like seven f—ing flights' — ends the sketch. ‘Love Island USA,' Plus 7 Things to Watch on TV this Week
Between streaming and cable, there is a seemingly endless variety of things to watch. Here is a selection of TV shows and specials that are airing or streaming this week, June 2-8. 'Below Deck Down Under' just wrapped, and luckily for those of us who can't get enough of life and drama at sea, the new season of 'Below Deck' is setting sail with Capt. Kerry Titheradge at the helm this week. Fraser Olender is also back as chief stew on the show that follows the crew of a luxury charter yacht. In a preview released by Bravo, we already saw a crew member calling the maritime police and, well, everyone making out with everyone. Monday at 8 p.m. on Bravo. Toooonight (said in Iain Stirling's voice): 'Love Island USA' is back for its seventh season. Though there may be some flawed logic in sending a group of hotties to a remote island villa in an attempt to form long-lasting relationships, it does make for ridiculously fun TV. New episodes arrive every day of the week except Wednesdays, with Ariana Madix back as the host. Things are sure to be messy. Streaming starting on Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Peacock. Warning: If you watched the original seasons of 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey,' this new show might make you feel a little old. Teresa Giudice's daughter, Gia, who was 8 years old when she first appeared on that series, will be in 'Next Gen NYC,' alongside adult children of other 'Real Housewives' franchise stars, with some New York City influencers mixed in. As the cast members of other Bravo shows like 'Summer House' and 'Vanderpump Rules' age out of their hard-core partying days, maybe this new cast will fill those roles. Tuesday at 9 p.m. on Bravo. A big week for theater. From Tom Francis's 'Sunset Boulevard' walk to Cole Escola's Mary Todd Lincoln in 'Oh, Mary!' and Audra McDonald's return to the stage in 'Gypsy,' there has been a lot of theater to celebrate this season. And that is exactly what will happen at the Tony Awards. Alongside the usual performances from this year's biggest shows, it was announced last week that original 'Hamilton' cast will reunite for a performance during the broadcast.
