Party high command asks Siddaramaiah to rein in erring legislators
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is learnt to have been asked by the Congress central leadership to rein in the party legislators who have been publicly making accusations of lack of funds and corruption and embarrassing the government.
During a meeting held with AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala in New Delhi on Tuesday, internal developments in the party came up for discussion, sources in the Chief Minister's Office said. Mr. Surjewala is learnt to have told Mr. Siddaramaiah to control the legislators from speaking in public and causing embarrassment. 'The Chief Minister has been asked to issue a serious warning to the erring legislators,' said the source.
Incidentally, the Chief Minister has said he would meet Aland legislator and Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman B.R. Patil and North-Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation chairman and Kagwad legislator Bharamagouda (Raju) Kage, both of whom have publicly admitted to corruption in public works and slow-paced development owing to paucity of funds.
On Council nominations
The issue of the nomination of four persons to the Legislative Council was among the other political developments in the State that were discussed. While the list was almost ready, the central leadership asked the government to withhold it and not send it to the Governor.
'Mr. Surjewala informed that the list would be finalised once the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, who is travelling, returns. The same list is likely to be retained,' sources said.
Meeting with Murmu
Earlier, the Chief Minister met President Draupadi Murmu to discuss the Bills awaiting the President's assent and requested her to clear them.
'Seven Bills have not received the assent, and I came here to request their clearance. The President informed me that the Bills are not with her, but with the departments concerned. I have requested her to get the Bills from the departments and clear them,' the Chief Minister told presspersons in Delhi, after the meeting.
The Bills that are pending with the President are: the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2015; the Karnataka (Mineral Rights and Mineral Bearing Land) Tax Bill, 2024; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2024; the Notaries (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (KTPP) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
While the KTPP Act amendment Bill seeks to provide 4% reservation to Muslims, the amendment to the endowments Act seeks to transfer 10% of the gross income of the temples having over ₹1 crore to a common pool to be used in smaller temples and for welfare schemes of the priests.

"Lack of knowledge of electoral process": Shaina NC hits out at Rahul Gandhi
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 24 (ANI): Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC on Tuesday hit out at Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi while dismissing his claims regarding alleged manipulation of the voter list in the constituency of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying that his repeated allegations were 'baseless'. She said that Gandhi's remarks were indicative of his 'lack of knowledge and understanding of the electoral process'. 'Rahul Gandhi should be happy when more people register their names in the voter list and when more and more people come out to vote... The work done by the Election Commission is to register new voters. Your (Rahul Gandhi) repeated baseless allegations make one thing clear: you lack the knowledge and understanding of the electoral process and how it works in a democracy.' Her remarks come after Gandhi claimed earlier in the day that the voter list in CM Fadnavis's constituency grew by eight per cent in just five months and labelled it 'vote theft.' In a post on X, Gandhi shared a news article demanding the immediate release of machine-readable digital voter rolls and CCTV footage. The former Congress President claimed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) reported unknown individuals casting votes in Nagpur South West, where Fadnavis won last year by over 38,000 votes. He also pointed out that the media have also uncovered thousands of voters with no verified address. 'In Maharashtra CM's constituency, the voter list grew by 8% in just 5 months. Some booths saw a 20-50% surge,' Gandhi said on X. 'BLOs reported unknown individuals casting votes. Media uncovered thousands of voters with no verified address,' the Rae Bareli MP said, alleging, 'And the EC? Silent - or complicit. These aren't isolated glitches. This is vote theft. The cover-up is the confession.' 'That's why we demand the immediate release of machine-readable digital voter rolls and CCTV footage,' Gandhi said in the backdrop of the Election Commission's (EC) revised guidelines on preserving video footage and photographs of elections, reducing the retention period to 45 days. Meanwhile, Fadnavis sharply rebutted Gandhi's allegations of a manipulated voter list and called it a desperate claim stemming from Congress's defeat in the state. Fadnavis posted on X, 'Jhoot boley kawa kaatey, Kaaley Kawaey se daryo... Rahul Gandhi, it's clear that the sting of your party's humiliating defeat in Maharashtra is growing deeper by the day.'He dismissed the claim of manipulation, citing multiple assembly segments across Maharashtra that saw similar or higher voter growth yet were won by Congress or its allies. Moreover, sources said on Tuesday that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has invited Rahul Gandhi to interact to discuss the issues related to his allegation regarding the Maharashtra Assembly Election held last year. According to the sources, the letter was sent via email on June 12 and was also received at his residence. (ANI)

Siddaramaiah pushes for growth-oriented tax share model in meeting with Sitharaman
Bengaluru/New Delhi: Chief minister Tuesday urged the Union govt to adopt a more development-focused tax devolution formula under the 16th Finance Commission, pointing out that Karnataka had suffered a massive revenue shortfall of Rs 80,000 crore under the previous award. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During a meeting with Union finance minister , Siddaramaiah called for a "pro-growth approach" in allocation of central taxes among states and highlighted the adverse impact of the current formula on Karnataka's finances. He pointed out that Karnataka's share in central taxes declined from 4.7 % under the 14th Finance Commission to 3.6% under the 15th Finance Commission, amounting to a 23% reduction in real terms. A release from the CMO said: "The state was also not allocated Rs.11,495 crore special grants. As a result, the state lost a total of Rs.80,000 crore during the award period." Siddaramaiah attributed this decline to the 15th commission's over-reliance on the income-distance criterion, which received 45% weightage. He proposed a realignment of this formula. "The state has requested that the weightage for income-distance should be reduced by 20 percentage points under the 16th Finance Commission and reallocated to fiscal contribution — which is the state's share in national GDP," Siddaramaiah said. He also urged Sitharaman to discontinue revenue deficit grants in its current form. "They are against the principles of fiscal discipline as proposed in the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) framework," Siddaramaiah said. "We proposed that the same amount — which was 1.9% of gross Union receipts under the 15th Finance Commission — should be redistributed among all states using the horizontal devolution formula. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now " The CM raised region-specific concerns as well, highlighting developmental challenges of Bengaluru, Kalyana Karnataka and Malnad regions. "A fair and pro-growth devolution will accelerate the state's growth," Siddaramaiah told Sitharaman in the 30-minute meeting. Rejecting suggestions that Karnataka is demanding special treatment, Siddaramaiah said the proposals are aimed at strengthening the federal fabric. "On the contrary," he said, "It will improve overall national resource mobilisation and foster cooperative and competitive federalism." Siddaramaiah urged the Centre to incorporate these suggestions in the memorandum of the 16th Finance Commission. "A growth friendly devolution will ensure that all states are empowered to contribute their best to India's development journey," he said. Earlier on Tuesday, Siddaramaiah met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to seek assent for seven key bills passed by the state legislature. These bills span education, mineral taxation, procurement reform, and administrative streamlining, and require presidential approval under constitutional provisions. Major bills include the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Karnataka (Mineral Rights and Mineral Bearing Land) Tax Bill, 2024. Others focus on procurement transparency, registration processes, notary reforms, and regulation of religious institutions. These bills touch subjects in the Concurrent List or intersect with central laws, mandating Union govt clearance before implementation.

Congress slams Govt over US advisory, calls it ‘another diplomatic failure'
With the US issuing an advisory for its citizens travelling to India, Congress Tuesday hit out at the Centre calling it 'another diplomatic failure' of PM Narendra Modi-led government. At a press conference, Chairperson of the Congress digital and social media platforms Supriya Shrinate said: 'It is yet another diplomatic failure of the Modi government that the same country under the same leader whom Modi had gone out of way to appease by organising shows like 'Howdy Modi', 'Namaste Trump' and 'Ab ki Bar Trump Sarkar' was repeatedly heaping and hurling insults on India.' '… an advisory is being issued against us while Pakistan's Army Chief Asim Munir is being invited to enjoy a meal with US President Trump, who has, in turn, hyphenated India and Pakistan,' Shrinate said.
