Gaza civil defence says 15 killed near aid centre - War on Gaza
The Gaza civil defence agency said that 15 people were killed Tuesday when Israeli forces fired at people trying to enter a food distribution centre, while Israel's military acknowledged firing "warning shots".
There have been a series of deadly incidents since the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) first opened aid distribution points in the Palestinian territory on May 27, with Israel facing mounting international protests over humanitarian conditions.
Gaza civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that 12 people were killed when Israeli quadcopters opened fire on people waiting to enter a GHF distribution centre in central Gaza, "at 6 or 7 am" Tuesday.
Bassal also said that between 2:30 am and 5 am on Tuesday, three people were killed by Israeli fire and shelling north of Wadi Gaza as they waited to enter the same distribution centre.
"Several thousand civilians and hungry individuals had gathered in the hope of reaching the American aid centre near the Wadi Gaza bridge and the Netzarim corridor", Bassal told AFP.
The Netzarim corridor is a strip of land militarised by Israel that bisects Gaza from the Israeli border to the Mediterranean and cuts off the north from the rest of the territory.
Al-Awda hospital in central Gaza's Nuseirat camp said it had received three bodies and 100 wounded from the incident near the Wadi Gaza bridge.
In light of restrictions imposed on media in the Gaza Strip and the difficulties of access on the ground, AFP is not able to independently verify the death tolls announced by the civil defence agency.

Hospitals across Gaza received the bodies of 90 Palestinians and over 600 wounded in the past 48 hours, the Health Ministry said Saturday, as Israel's war on the besieged Strip pushes the death toll past 55,000 amid relentless attacks and systematic targeting of aid distribution zones. At least 27 Palestinians were killed and dozens wounded early Saturday as Israeli forces intensified shelling across the Gaza Strip, with the heaviest bombardments reported in central areas, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Local sources told WAFA that Israeli troops opened live fire on civilians gathered near aid distribution points in central Gaza, killing 15 and injuring many others. Israel has repeatedly targeted aid centres operated by the US-Israeli-run Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Israel has killed at least 274, and injured 2,532 since the systematic targeting of people near aid distribution areas began. In Gaza City, medical officials reported five bodies brought to Al-Shifa Hospital, including two people killed in an airstrike on a tent near Al-Khaldi Mosque. Artillery was also struck the eastern al-Tuffah neighbourhood. In Khan Younis, three civilians were killed in a drone strike near the Islamic University, according to local reports cited by WAFA. The Palestinian Health ministry further indicated that since Israel broke the ceasfiren on 18 March, 2025, the occupation army has killed 5,014 Palestinians with 16,385 injured. Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has killed 55,297 Palestinians, the majority women and injured nearly 128,426 others, the ministry added. Mohamed Mandour The Organization of Islamic Cooperation's Media Observatory for Israeli Crimes against Palestinians reported that there were 460 martyrs and 1,939 wounded in just one week, from June 3 to June 9, 2025. From October 7, 2023, to June 9, 2025, the total number of martyrs reached 56,260, with 134,586 wounded. Many martyrs were killed while searching for aid, including over 111 Palestinians who lost their lives while looking for food. Additionally, 583 people were injured and nine are missing while seeking assistance. Most were killed by Israeli fire targeting various areas of Gaza, including tents for displaced persons and civilian homes. Data from the United Nations indicates that rates of acute malnutrition among children in Gaza have tripled since the last ceasefire. UNICEF issued an appeal for an end to the war, emphasizing that using starvation as a "weapon" constitutes a war crime. The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor confirmed that occupation forces have deliberately bombed hospitals in Gaza, using pretexts and falsehoods. Occupation forces have also destroyed homes in the Qarara area of Khan Yunis and the Jabalia refugee camp as part of their displacement policy and arming Palestinian militias. Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has stated that the occupation government has a plan that includes imposing sovereignty over Area C, displacing the residents of Khan al-Ahmar, and disrupting the banking system. Additionally, occupation forces have notified the owners of 100 homes in the Jenin refugee camp of their impending demolition. Al-Aqsa Mosque faces almost daily raids, with extremist settlers attempting to bring bloodied meat into the mosque for sacrifice, only to be stopped by Al-Aqsa guards.
