Skyforce making push for spot in NBA G League playoffs
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The NBA G League regular season is nearing the finish line and the Sioux Falls Skyforce is in the mix for a playoff spot.
The Sioux Falls Skyforce are hitting their stride in the final weeks of the NBA G League regular season, having won three straight games. They're currently eighth in the Western Conference, where only six teams will make the playoffs, but are just three games out of first place.
'One win can change our direction, one loss can change our direction which way we go, so every game is important. We're watching the scoreboard for all the other teams and hoping we can vault our way up into the playoffs here soon,' Skyforce President Mike Heineman said.

Mike Heineman is the president of the Skyforce and says while currently on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, he believes this team controls its own destiny.
'We have tons of talent right now, we've got six guys on our team that have spent time in the NBA over the last 12 months, so we have the talent and if we do what we're supposed to do we'll be just fine,' Heineman said.
A number of notable NBA players have spent time in the G League. This week, all eyes have been on Bronny James — LeBron's son — wondering if he'd join the South Bay Lakers in Sioux Falls.
'Unfortunately, I don't think he's coming. Obviously, we were hoping he would but probably better for us on the floor if he's not here,' Heineman said.
'We've had NBA guys here all season, their last name isn't James, which is unfortunate, but the talent level has never been greater,' Sanford Sports Vice President of Operations Jesse Smith said.
Jesse Smith is the vice president of operations at Sanford Sports.
'We've got first round draft picks, we've got guys with NBA experience, it's really become a developmental tool for the NBA teams to use and it's been awesome to see that level of talent here night in and night out,' Smith said.
And the Skyforce will play four of their final six games at the Sanford Pentagon, where they haven't lost since January.
'We want to see big crowds, we want to help cheer them on and get them into the playoffs,' Smith said.
'We're playing high level basketball right now, so if fans want to see good basketball this will be the place to be,' Heineman said.
The Skyforce will host the South Bay Lakers at 6:30 tomorrow night, and at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
The NBA G League regular season ends March 29th, and the playoffs begin April 1st.

Former NBA player recalls a fight between Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal
Former NBA player recalls a fight between Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant made up one of the greatest and most successful superstar duos in NBA history. In eight seasons together, they led the Los Angeles Lakers to three straight NBA championships and resurrected their mystique after a rough rebuilding process during the 1990s. They represented a blend of O'Neal's brute force and power and Bryant's creativity, athleticism, sublime scoring skills and incredible clutch ability. Perhaps no other duo in basketball history was as talented as this one. But of course, the two butted heads at times. Olden Polynice, a former NBA big man, was present when the Hall of Famers actually went at it during a practice session, and he recalled what happened during an episode of former Lakers star Byron Scott's "Fast Break" podcast. 'So, we're at Southwest College, right, playing,' Polynice said. 'I'm trying to get — I'm a Laker fan. I wanna be on the Lakers. I gotta be around the Lakers. So, I'm working — we working out. I'm guarding Shaq, blah, blah, blah. Basket, 'Yeah, this is my team, [expletive].' Basket down there, 'Yeah, naw, naw, this is my team.' 'It's going back and forth between the two of 'em. Okay, no problem. I mean, that's us. We're ballers. Mitch Kupchak's sitting over there chilling with Laker brass, and all of a sudden, there's a dead ball. 'They just going back and forth, but I'm thinking it's still part of the crap that we do. 'Nah, [expletive], I'll kick your [expletive].' I'm like, 'Oh [expletive], okay. Are they about to fight?'' In Jeff Pearlman's book "Three-Ring Circus: Kobe, Shaq, Phil, and the Crazy Years of the Lakers Dynasty," a fight between O'Neal and Bryant from just prior to the 1999 season was recounted. It appears that was the fight Polynice was referring to. During his podcast appearance, Polynice said that O'Neal attempted to throw a punch at Bryant, but he grabbed Bryant and prevented the punch from landing. O'Neal then chased the guard, and Polynice grabbed the big man to try to diffuse the situation. In retrospect, given the problems the two superstars had at times, and given that both were alpha males who were perhaps better suited to leading their own individual teams, it's amazing that their partnership lasted as long as it did and was as fruitful as it was. Lakers fans will never forget the sweet memories the two provided during those turbulent but exciting days back in the early days of the 21st century.

Lil Wayne's First ‘Tha Carter VI' Track Featured in an NBA Finals Campaign
The first public glimpse of Lil Wayne's upcoming Tha Carter VI album will be heard on ESPN. 'The Days,' a collaboration between the iconic rapper (and May Rolling Stone cover star) and U2's Bono, is the theme song of the NBA Finals' promotional ad for the first day of the championship series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers. The network has previously played his 'I Am Not a Human Being,' 'Uproar,' and 'Glory' tracks in the playoffs. In the NBA Finals ad, highlights of both teams are interspersed with Wayne rapping bars like, 'live to fight another day if yesterday beat me, cause I ain't gettin' younger, but I'm gettin' better' while Bono sings, 'these are the days.' 'My music and the NBA are vibin' on the same frequency because it's perfect timing for fans to hear Tha Carter VI on the game's grandest stage.' The campaign is yet another intersection of sports and music for the avid sports fan and co-founder of Young Money APAA Sports Agency, which represents several NBA players. Tha Carter VI is Wayne's 14th studio album, and the first since 2023's Welcome 2 ColleGrove with 2 Chainz. Wayne played Rolling Stone songs from the project in January, including 'The Days,' an introspective track where he reflects on his life and times. He told Rolling Stone that the project is collaboration-oriented, noting, 'If there's one thing about this album that's different, it's me approaching it like, 'Man, what would I sound like on something with such and such.'' He'll be celebrating Tha Carter VI's launch with the ESPN campaign as well as his first headlining concert at Madison Square Garden on Friday, the album's release date. 'Lil Wayne brings the energy, edge, and emotion that define the NBA Finals,' said Curtis Friends, Vice President of Sports Marketing at ESPN.
