Blind date: ‘She called me a dork, which is what every man dreams of'
What were you hoping for?
Great food, a fun story and hopefully someone to explore London with.
First impressions?
Very friendly and warm. He'd also kindly saved the booth seat for me, which I appreciated.
What did you talk about?
Carbs. Copenhagen v London prices (I'm from Copenhagen). Beach holidays. Films we haven't seen. Our lack of hobbies. And Voldemort.
Most awkward moment?
Maybe when I started talking about my lactose intolerance after we'd ordered about four different dishes that contained a lot of cheese.
Good table manners?
No notes.
Best thing about Matt?
How easy he was to talk to. And that he didn't seem to mind me basically interrogating him (in a nonthreatening way).
Would you introduce Matt to your friends?
Yeah, they'd get along swimmingly.
Blind date is Saturday's dating column: every week, two
strangers are paired up for dinner and drinks, and then spill the beans
to us, answering a set of questions. This runs, with a photograph we
take of each dater before the date, in Saturday magazine (in the
UK) and online at theguardian.com every Saturday. It's been running since 2009 – you can read all about how we put it together here. What questions will I be asked? We
ask about age, location, occupation, hobbies, interests and the type of
person you are looking to meet. If you do not think these questions
cover everything you would like to know, tell us what's on your mind.
Can I choose who I match with?No,
it's a blind date! But we do ask you a bit about your interests,
preferences, etc – the more you tell us, the better the match is likely
to be.
Can I pick the photograph? No, but don't worry: we'll choose the nicest ones.
What personal details will appear?Your first name, job and age.
How should I answer?Honestly
but respectfully. Be mindful of how it will read to your date, and that
Blind date reaches a large audience, in print and online.
Will I see the other person's answers? No. We may edit yours and theirs for a range of reasons, including length, and we may ask you for more details.
Will you find me The One?We'll try! Marriage! Babies!
Can I do it in my home town?Only if it's in the UK. Many of our applicants live in London, but we would love to hear from people living elsewhere.
How to applyEmail blind.date@theguardian.com
Describe Matt in three words.
Kind, cool and witty.
What do you think Matt made of you?
Probably that I talk too much about pasta. But hopefully he also found me funny.
Did you go on somewhere?
We went to a pub around the corner for pints and people watching.
And … did you kiss?
Maaaaaaybe.
If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
I'd invite our fab waiter Pietro along to the pub – what an absolute legend!
Marks out of 10?
A strong 9.
Would you meet again?
Yeah, for sure.
What were you hoping for?
To meet someone fun and have a bit of a different evening out.
First impressions?
We were a little awkward for about 10 seconds, then clicked pretty quickly.
What did you talk about?
Worrying about climate change. How a lot of 2000s romcoms are based on Shakespeare. Whether Voldemort should be viewed as an asexual being.
Most awkward moment?
The waiter thought we were influencers who were going to give them a review.
Good table manners?
She said I wasn't allowed to write 'impeccable' for this one. We shared bits of everything, which was great.
Best thing about Kat?
Impeccable table manners.
Would you introduce Kat to your friends?
Absolutely, she was great fun.
Describe Kat in three words.
Top-tier vibes.
What do you think Kat made of you?
She called me a dork, which is what every man dreams of.
Did you go on somewhere?
To the nearest pub for a couple more drinks.
And … did you kiss?
What happens on the Piccadilly line stays on the Piccadilly line.
If you could change one thing about the evening what would it be?
For the waiter to join us for the last glass of wine.
Marks out of 10?
Nine. It's a 10 really, but I'm English – we're never 100% happy with anything.
Would you meet again?
I would. And we swapped numbers, so fingers crossed!
Kat and Matt ate at Officina 00, London WC2. Fancy a blind date? Email blind.date@theguardian.com

Pregnant Bake Off star Laura Adlington reveals gender of unborn baby after nine year fertility battle
BUN IN THE OVEN The star revealed in April she was set to have her first baby PREGNANT Bake Off star Laura Adlington has revealed the gender of her unborn baby. The TV star, 36, shared the exiting news on social media, following her nine year fertility journey. 5 Laura revealed she is expecting her first child in a sweet Instagram post in April. Now, the mum-to-be has shared more exciting news with her fans. Laura has reveled that her and husband Matt are having a baby boy. They shared a cute picture of themselves holding up a blue baby outfit. In a lengthy post next to the sweet snap, Laura revealed that the couple had bought the outfit when they started trying for a baby nine years ago. Continuing the post, The Great British Bake Off star said: "Well, earlier this year, as many of you know, our prayers were finally answered. And recently we found out we're having a little boy. "I'll be honest: part of me had hoped for a girl. "But looking back, we never bought a girl's outfit – just this one. "So maybe that's the universe's way of saying this was always meant to be. I was on Bake Off and cruel trolls mocked my fertility battle - it shattered my confidence, says Laura Adlington "Now, this little outfit isn't just a symbol of hope. It's waiting, just like we are, for the little boy who was always meant to fill it." BABY NEWS In April, Laura and Matt revealed they were expecting a 'miracle' baby after nine years of infertility and being told to lose 14st. The star admitted she had "quietly decided to give IVF a try" over the last year. She shared a photo of her smiling alongside Matt while holding a baby scan in her hand. Laura wrote: "After 9 years of infertility, we are very excited (and still a bit in shock) to be expecting our little IVF miracle in October. "I know announcements like this can be really painful, especially if you're in the thick of waiting or grieving, so please feel free to mute or unfollow if you need to and know I'm sending so much love your way. "It's been such a really long, and to be honest lonely road to get here – something many of you will know if you've followed me for a while or listened to the podcast. "We'd honestly made peace with the idea that having children might not happen for us. But about a year and a half ago, we quietly decided to give IVF a try. "We kept it to ourselves and decided not to share online (or even with family) just so we didn't put more pressure on ourselves. "We had an unsuccessful round and a cancelled round, and then found out a couple of months ago that I was finally pregnant. "I'll be sharing a bit more over the coming weeks about our journey to get here but for now we're just really excited to share our news with you all. We honestly can't believe our luck." Back in 2022, Laura shared her dream about becoming a mum and starting a family. Two years before, Laura appeared The Great British Bake Off and made it all the way to the final, but lost out to the series' youngest-ever winner Peter Sawkins. The baking queen opened up about her struggles to conceive. Laura previously told The Sun's Fabulous Magazine: "Unless you've gone through infertility and that heartache of really wanting it and it not happening . . . it's the hardest thing I've ever gone through."

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Edinburgh locals have spotted Warner Bros trucks around the city in recent days, with filming for an upcoming project underway. Details have been kept under wraps, with residents previously speculating that the filming was for the upcoming Harry Potter series. It's now understood that the production is for Ghostwriter - a sci-film due for release in 2026. The cast includes Samuel L Jackson, Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey. It comes from director JJ Abrams, who is behind films like Cloverfield and the more recent Star Wars films. While the plot is a tightly kept secret, The Hot Mic has suggested the film is an '80s throwback film and follows the author of a series of novels who reveals that the mythical world he's known for creating is in fact real. Production is also said to be happening in London. Spots in Edinburgh such as West College Street, Merchant Street, Candlemaker Row, and Chambers Street are being used as filming locations. (Image: Edinburgh Live) Locals also spotted crews setting up in Holyrood Park back on June 3. None of the rumoured cast have been papped in and around the city as of yet, though one lifelong Samuel L Jackson claims to have had an interaction with his hero. Matt's partner, Rosie, told Edinburgh Live: "Matt finally had his dream come true this week when the legendary actor was spotted filming scenes for his new movie Ghostwriter in the city. Sign up for Edinburgh Live newsletters for more headlines straight to your inbox "Determined not to miss his hero, Matt camped out for 15 hours near the filming location with snacks, a fold-up chair, and unshakable optimism. Armed with only hope and a homemade sign that read 'I've had it with these motherlovin' waits!' he finally got the moment he'd waited a lifetime for." A release date hasn't been given for the film, though it's been suggested that it'll hit our screens next year. Warner Bros have been approached for comment.
