Moldy Ford GT Supercar Left To Rot Starts Up, But Probably Shouldn't

Just like seeing a Dodge Viper left to just sit and rot, it's hard for us to see a first-gen Ford GT supercar allowed to mold inside a garage for a decade and a half. We remember the excitement these special machines generated when they first came out, with people lucky enough to snatch up one of the only 4,038 made act incredibly grateful. That was around 20 years ago and a lot can go down in two decades. Unfortunately, we don't get the backstory for this supercar at all. Why is a mystery because it's not even mentioned. Instead, the guys in the video are more of a focus.
One of the most interesting things about barn find cars is the backstory. Without that, it's just a thing that's been allowed to sit. We bet there's one hell of a story about why this Ford GT was just parked, considering it happened only a few short years after it was originally purchased.
The guys who rescue this barn find Ford GT sure are a far cry from Dennis Collins or anyone really savvy about this type of work. They stop at the Home Depot to get plastic suits to wear over nice clothing, instead of just wearing grubbies, and drive a Lamborghini Diablo SV there. But the one is still wearing his nice loafers while climbing over piles of junk stacked up around the moldy supercar.
This is what happens when influencers try doing blue collar work.
Also, we're getting Breaking Bad vibes when Walt and Jesse bumble around trying to stay ahead of the law while wearing a similar getup. We certainly hope these guys were just trying to ham it up for the camera.
But wait, it gets even worse. Without even pulling the dipstick or checking any other fluids, these two fire up the V8 and drive it to the awaiting wrecker. Yes, they did that and you can scream inside your head or out loud, whichever you prefer.
As an aside, it is pretty amazing the Ford fired up like that. Hopefully no damage was done, but it isn't our problem, thankfully.

Ford Is Recalling Almost 500,000 Explorers, And There's No Fix Yet

Another week, another Ford recall covering hundreds of thousands of vehicles, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The latest in an ongoing era of recalls is not focused on backup cameras or broken control arms, but something a little less worrisome from a safety perspective: it focuses on faulty interior trim pieces on 2016–2017 Ford Explorer units. Specifically, the May 23, 2025, recall is meant to address an issue with the B-pillar trim adhesive and connectors that allow the trim to fall off. Ford's filing with the safety watchdog says that an inconsistent usage of hand rollers at the factory means the foam donut inside the B-pillar is subject to increased outward reaction force and... well, the piece simply isn't attached very well. The B-pillar trim could detach while the vehicle is moving, increasing the risk of a crash for other road users should the part fall into the road. A total of 492,145 Ford Explorer units are included in this recall, with NHTSA estimating that 4% of the nearly half-a-million units will suffer from the defect. Ford says customers will be able to spot the B-pillar trim defect when opening and closing the forward doors. Increased wind noise or even rattling are other possible side effects. Ford first identified this issue in 2019, when a technical service bulletin was published to dealers detailing how to repair loose B-pillar trim. It wasn't until six years later that Ford believed the issue to warrant a safety recall, following a March 2025 NHTSA investigation that detailed 38 customer complaints where the trim piece detached completely. An internal team at Ford then began investigating the issue by harvesting doors from scrap yards and reviewing photos from customer complaints. A thorough review of previous part design and assembly plant processes allowed Ford to quickly identify which model years of Explorer were affected, eventually prompting the recall by May. Unfortunately for Explorer owners, there is no fix just yet. Ford says a remedy is under development, indicating that the problem could be attributable to a larger design flaw with the B-pillar or fastening systems in these particular units. Once a fix has been found, Ford says Explorer owners will be sent to their local Ford or Lincoln dealer to have it performed. This recall is perhaps less serious than the swath of issues plaguing the entire Ford lineup as of late. Other Ford recalls have focused on broken control arms (particularly in Ford Bronco and F-150 Lightning models) and fuel leaks, as well as electrical issues, including failing instrument clusters and faulty backup cameras. All told, millions of Fords have now been recalled over the course of 2025, ensuring that service departments at dealerships around the country will stay busy this summer. 1 Million Fords Recalled for Backup Camera Blackouts

Those expressing skepticism at modern cars' continued reliance on screens ought to feel validated over this piece of news. Earlier this month, Ford recalled a whopping 1,075,299 cars over a software error that could cause the image from the backup camera to delay, freeze, or not display anything altogether when a driver puts their Ford product in reverse. A more specific description of the defect states the cars' center infotainment screen can freeze and be followed by a black screen and a system reboot. If this happens while the driver is using the backup camera, it'll limit visibility and increase the risk of a crash. It doesn't seem like there's any real warning as to when or if this will happen, either. Of the one-million-plus cars involved in the recall, Ford estimates 100 percent of them are defective. The 13 afflicted models and model years are as follows: 2022–2024 Lincoln Navigator 2021–2023 Lincoln MKX 2023–2024 Lincoln Corsair 2024–2024 Ford Mustang 2023–2024 Ford Super Duty (F250, F350, F450, F550, F600) 2021–2024 Ford F-150 2024–2024 Ford Ranger 2021–2023 Ford Mach-E 2022–2025 Ford Transit 2022–2024 Ford Expedition 2023–2024 Ford Escape 2021–2024 Ford Edge 2021–2024 Ford Bronco The remedy is simple: Ford will notify owners via mail and instruct them to bring their cars to a Ford or Lincoln dealership and have them updated with the latest version of SYNC4, Ford's infotainment software. Alternatively, if your car is equipped to receive over-the-air updates, you can get the fix this way. A backup camera is an additional tool and should not take the place of physically looking over your shoulder or in your mirrors when reversing. However, as vehicles get bigger and bigger in size, their associated blindspots grow in kind, so backup cameras help keep an eye on spots we can't physically see. It's been a busy year of Ford recalls. In January, Ford recalled almost 150,000 Broncos over an issue with their rear shocks. In May, more than a quarter of a million Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators were recalled over a brake line leak. On top of all that, the recalls keep coming for our longterm Ford Maverick Hybrid, though we still maintain the truck is reliable, as none of the recall issues have manifested in our particular test unit. Backup cameras have been federally mandated on all cars built starting May 1, 2018 and onwards.

Next-Gen Shelby GT500 Looks Menacing in New Spy Shots

Since the debut of the S650 Mustang in 2023, we've been waiting for a hardcore Shelby model. Rumors of the high-performance muscle car have been circulating for years, but nothing's been made official. That'll likely change soon, judging by these spy photos of a seemingly complete Shelby GT500 mule captured driving around Michigan. Our spy photographer managed to snag some detailed photos of this camouflaged GT500 prototype stalking around on the street ahead of a reveal likely to take place later this year. The front fascia wears a thick layer of netting and tarp to conceal changes to the front end, though we can see wider openings for the upper and lower grilles, as well as some outer bulges on the hood. Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography The rear end is more of the same, with a makeshift blanket covering the bumper, and polka-dot camouflage on the fenders and trunk lid. The thin quad-exhaust pipes are clearly not production ready, while the wing looks to be lifted straight from the lesser Mustang GT . The wheels and tires are the most fascinating part of this tester. Look closely, and you'll see the tires measure 305/30ZR20 up front and 315/30ZR20 in the rear—coincidentally, these are the same exact sizes found on the last-generation GT500. The tires themselves are Pirelli P Zero Rs with "Prototype Use Only" text on the sidewalls. Unlike the last GT500 prototype we saw, this one isn't using carbon fiber wheels, but more traditional alloys. In all likelihood, this wheel and tire setup will likely be the base offering for the upcoming GT500, with a carbon fiber wheel and stickier tire offered as the sportier option. Photo by: KGP Photography There's no official word on what sort of engine will power the next GT500, but we have a pretty good idea of what to expect, thanks to a leaked union memo from the Dearborn engine plant in Michigan. The document, whose contents were confirmed by the Detroit Free Press through internal sources, showed plans to produce an engine nicknamed "Legend." The plant currently builds the supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 found in the Raptor R. That same motor powered the last GT500 , making 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. So it makes sense for the factory to supply the next car's engine, too. Power is still a question mark, though we wouldn't be surprised to see the next GT500 make over 800 hp, possibly matching the track-ready Mustang GTD . Judging by how ready-for-production this prototype looks, we probably won't have to wait much longer to find out.
