Norway blanks Hungary for 1st win at women's hockey worlds after 27-year absence

Norway beat Hungary 3-0 in a game of the two newly promoted teams at the women's hockey world championship on Sunday in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic.
Andrine Furulund and Emma Bergesen scored a goal apiece in the middle period and Millie Rose Sirium added the third into an empty net in the third to lead Norway to its first victory at the tournament after a 27-year absence from the top division.
Norway goalie Ena Nystrom stopped 45 shots.
Hungary remains pointless and goalless after losses to Sweden and Japan by the same 2-0 score in its previous games in Group B.
Later Sunday, Sweden faces Japan the Canadians and Americans renew their rivalry at 1 p.m. ET.

Canada-U.S. rivalry always intense
Canada has learned to expect the unexpected when facing their archrivals.
It can be a 1-0 game as it was in the preliminary round last year or it can be a bucking bronco of a 6-5 overtime decision in the final that Canada won in Utica, N.Y.
Unlikely hero Danielle Serdachny's overtime goal gave the Canadians a dramatic 6-5 win in Utica, avenging the Americans' victory in 2023 in Brampton, Ont.
Since the United States' run of five straight world titles from 2013 to 2019 (the worlds are not held in Olympic years), Canada has captured three of the last four while also reclaiming the Olympic gold medal in 2022. The Canadians have also won four consecutive Rivalry Series, taking the deciding Game 5 two months ago in Summerside, P.E.I.
Two of five games went to a shootout.
"When I look at sort of the last, probably 10 or 12 games that we played against them, they all look different in some capacity," Canada head coach Terry Ryan said.
"Either we've got to dictate the game or we've got to roll with it a little bit to try to stop it from rolling over us.
"It's weird. It's hard to figure it out to be honest. We've won with physicality, we've won with offence and we've won with defence. God knows what this one will end up like. We'll see."

More big names confirm they'll tee it up at Rogers Charity Classic
The Rogers Charity Classic is one of the best events on the PGA Champions tour, and once again, there's going to be a great field. The Rogers Charity Classic continues to do all the right things as it heads into its 13th year. The best from the PGA Tour Champions will tee it up in the middle of August at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. On Monday, two more golf hall of famers confirmed they'll be teeing it up in Calgary. Ernie Els is back for a second year and Colin Montgomerie will play in his eighth charity classic. Montgomerie says he loves coming back to play in this event. 'It's amazing, isn't it?' said the 61-year-old. 'It's great. Never mind the golf course and the facilities and the hospitality that they show you; I think the crowd is fantastic and I get a huge welcome being Scottish.' Other reasons for coming back The Rogers Charity Classic is one of the best-attended events on the champions tour but Sean Van Kesteren, executive director of the charity classic, says that's not the only reason why the players keep coming back. 'They love it here; it's great,' he said. 'It's not too hot and it's a good golf course. You know they love the greens; that's something you always hear about. They love it when you have the purest greens, I think we do, on tour.' According to Van Kesteren, the players also like the fact that so much money goes to charities. The tournament has raised a staggering $137.7 million since its inception. 'The Rogers Birdies for Kids is a matching program, which is an incentive program,' said Van Kesteren. 'Once we got all of the charities involved, they push out and we match up to 50 per cent. 'It's very successful, and it works very well for them because it's very hands-off. We manage all of the dollars getting in and out and all of the accounting and everything for them, so it's really a great tool to help them raise money.' More big names expected Van Kesteren expects more big-name players to announce their commitment to playing in the tournament in the coming weeks. 'We've already announced some big names, and there's a few more to come,' he said. 'We're working on them right now and seeing how their schedule works out. I anticipate this year to be just as good, if not better, in terms of field strength. There's a bunch of new guys too that haven't played here for the first time and just turned 50, so we're waiting for them as well.' The title sponsor also announced a $1 million donation to kickstart the tournament's annual fundraising efforts to support children's charities across Alberta.

The Essex Golf and Country Club will host the 30th annual Circle of Seven John Ferguson Memorial Golf Tournament for charity on Monday, June 23. The tournament is a reprise to the day, 30 years ago, when the Circle of Seven formed at the Essex Golf Club. It is also a memorial to three members lost: former NHL player John Ferguson Sr., Ed Agnew, and Robert (Knobby) Knudsen. The organization has helped those in need in our community for 30 years. The philanthropic organization has raised over $4.5 million since its inception. Money raised stays in the Windsor-Essex region, going towards health and wellness initiatives, youth sports, and the arts — all of which do not already receive government monetary assistance. The popular golf tournament is sold out. For participants in the tourney – around 120 golfers - it's a way to give back to our community. Rob Agnew and Don Wiley are the only two original founding members of the Circle of Seven alive today. 'We're hope and pray that that happens and that our younger generation will take over for us.' For Wiley, it's vital to keep the legacy of giving and helping those in need alive today and tomorrow. 'When I do this tournament, I think of our deceased members, John, Eddie, and Knobby and what this meant to them,' said Wiley. 'We're lucky that we have the type of people that we have attending because it's a limited 100 players. We have very, very little turnover. And they all know what they're here for is to raise money for the Circle of Seven.' In addition to the charity golf event, the Circle of Seven also participates in other charity events throughout the calendar year.
