Bangladeshi Actor Nusraat Faria Gets Bail In In Attempted Murder Case

A court has granted bail to popular Dhaka film actress Nusraat Faria, who was arrested in aan attempted murder case by the capital's Bhatara Police Station during the anti-discrimination movement.
On Tuesday, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Mostafizur Rahman granted his bail following an application by the accused.
Police in Bangladesh on Sunday arrested popular film actress Nusraat Faria, who played the role of Sheikh Hasina in the Bangabandhu biopic, "Mujib: The making of a Nation".
"Nusraat Faria was detained at Dhaka Airport while going abroad. She is an accused in an attempt to murder case. The detectives are questioning her. A decision will be taken later whether she will be arrested or not", Police officer Mazharul Islam told ANI over the phone.
"Mujib: The Making of a Nation", is a 2023 epic biographical film based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the independence leader and first President of Bangladesh who is popularly known as Bangabandhu. A co-production between Bangladesh and India, the film was directed by Shyam Bengal and stars Arifin Shuvoo in the titular role.
The Dhaka Tribune reported that Nusraat was arrested for her alleged involvement in an attempted murder case linked to anti-government protests.
A case was filed against 17 actors, including Nusraat, for the alleged attempted murder of a student in the capital's Vatara area during the July uprising last year, according to Dhaka Tribune.
Inspector Sujan Haque of Vatara Police Station said she was arrested this afternoon, as reported by bdnews24.com.
"Our team went to the airport to get her based on information from Immigration Police," he said. "A few days ago, a court approved an attempted murder case against her. She has been shown arrested in that case," as per the outlet.
Nusraat Faria mostly works in Dhallywood and Tollywood.

I have been covering Khalistan protests in Canada, the UK, the US, and New Zealand…My only goal is to do independent journalism and record and report what's going on and because I'm editorially independent, this frustrates some people. They want to influence me, they want to buy me. He is not even a Canadian citizen. He is from the UK," the journalist added. He pointed out that the India-Canada tensions over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar — which Ottawa brazenly blamed it on New Delhi — is a 'highly political subject" in the country. The journalist said that the Khalistanis were celebrating the assassins of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. 'Because of the tensions between Canada and India, it's a very highly political subject, but I feel like we are disregarding what's happening underground. ‘Still shaking': Canada journalist alleges assault by Khalistanis, shares ordeal
Investigative journalist Mocha Bezirgan says he was 'surrounded and threatened' by a group of Khalistan supporters and briefly had his phone snatched while filming their weekend rally in downtown Vancouver. 'It just happened two hours ago and I'm still shaking,' Bezirgan told news agency ANI in a phone interview. 'They acted like thugs - crowding in on me, grabbing my phone, trying to stop me recording.' Bezirgan, who has gained a following for documenting Khalistani demonstrations across Canada, the United States, Britain and New Zealand, said an agitator who has previously harassed him online led Sunday's confrontation. 'All of a sudden I had two or three people up in my face. I started a backup recording on my phone; that's when one of them yanked it out of my hand,' he said. Vancouver police officers nearby intervened, ordering the man to back off. Bezirgan later filed a statement; no arrests were immediately announced. The journalist added that the same individual continued shadowing him for several blocks, including onto a SkyTrain platform. 'I had nowhere to go. It was clear intimidation,' he said, calling for the man - a British national, according to Bezirgan - to be deported. Sunday's altercation comes amid a string of attacks on reporters covering the separatist movement.
