Adrien Dumont de Chassart shoots 59 in Wichita Open for 14th sub-60 round in Korn Ferry Tour history
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Belgium shot an 11-under 59 on Thursday in the Wichita Open for the 14 sub-60 round in Korn Ferry Tour history.
Dumont de Chassart had 12 birdies and a bogey in the morning round at storm-damaged Crestview Country Club, with players allowed to lift, clean and place their golf balls in the fairways because of wet conditions.
'Honestly, with all the rain and storms that they got, I thought the course was in really good shape,' Dumont de Chassart said. 'Greens were rolling nice. You still got some bounces on the green, which is pretty impressive with all the rain they got. It was ideal, right, 80 degrees, about to be 95 the next two days. Probably blowing about 10 miles per hour max. It was a good day to shoot 59 that's for sure.'
The 25-year-old former Illinois player broke the course record of 60 set by Justin Suh in the 2022 final round and matched by Alejandro Tosti in the 2023 final round.
Cristobal del Solar set the Korn Ferry Tour record last year with a 13-under 57 in the Astara Golf Championship. Frankie Capan III and Stephan Jaeger have shot 58 on the tour.
Dumont de Chassart began play on No. 10, and birdied the first three holes. He birdied No. 14, bogeyed the 15th and birdied Nos. 16 and 17 to get to 5 under. On the front nine, he birdied the first five holes and hit a 6-iron close on the eighth for his final birdie.
'Played really well down the stretch,' Dumont de Chassart said. 'Missed a shorty on 7, but that's what's cool about golf, you feel nervous even on 4-footers, right? So I'm glad I bounced back and hit a really, really good 6-iron on 17, hole 8, to set up an easy birdie.'

ULM drops women's tennis amid athletic department financial constraints
MONROE, La. (AP) — The women's tennis program at Louisiana-Monroe has been disbanded because of financial constraints at the university's athletic department. Athletics Director John Hartwell announced this week that the decision stemmed from 'increased operational and infrastructure costs' and will help ULM athletics 'to continue progress towards balancing its budget' while maintaining an NCAA-required minimum of 16 NCAA Division I sports. 'Discontinuing a sport is never an easy decision, nor one that we take lightly,' Hartwell said. 'We know this is tough for our student-athletes and our coaches, who have poured so much into our tennis program.' Hartwell said ULM will honor the scholarships of those who want to complete their degrees without transferring elsewhere. He said his administration also will help those tennis players who want to continue to compete to pursue opportunities at other schools. 'We will prioritize as smooth a transition as possible for our student-athletes,' Hartwell said. 3-time America's Cup champion Peter Burling joins Luna Rossa ahead of 2027 regatta off Naples
MILAN (AP) — Three-time America's Cup champion Peter Burling has joined Luna Rossa ahead of the 2027 regatta off Naples, the Italian team announced Friday. Burling left Team New Zealand in April after nearly a decade in which he steered his home boats to three consecutive America's Cup trophies. Luna Rossa said Burling 'is ready to contribute both in sailing performance and technical development as the team gears up for the next America's Cup campaign.' Barring a change in protocol concerning team changes, Burling likely won't be able to be aboard Luna Rossa and will have to remain on shore. Luna Rossa CEO Max Sirena praised Burling's 'exceptional sailing talent and his sportsmanship.' 'Even though his exact role has yet to be defined, he will certainly be part of the sailing team, reinforcing Luna Rossa's core leadership group and contributing to key areas of our development program,' Sirena said. Burling is a former Olympic sailing gold medalist and nine-time world champion. He became Team New Zealand helmsman in 2017 and at 26 steered the boat to a 7-1 victory over Oracle Team USA in Bermuda. That made him the youngest helmsman to win the America's Cup. Burling was skipper and helmsman when Team New Zealand successfully defended the America's Cup in 2021 in Auckland, New Zealand, and 2024 in Barcelona. 'I've always loved racing against Luna Rossa and now to join this iconic team is a real honor,' Burling said. 'The innovation and competitiveness they bring to the Cup has always inspired me. Olympic leader Bach got 10% raise in 2024 payment that trails far behind soccer's elected leaders
GENEVA (AP) — The International Olympic Committee paid its president Thomas Bach $350,000 in 2024, the Olympic body said Friday — a 10% raise for his final full year in office after a two-year freeze. The payment, or 'indemnity' in Olympic language, revealed in its annual report is small compared to soccer bodies that, like the IOC, are based in Switzerland and count annual revenue in billions. Bach on Monday will formally hand over to President-elect Kirsty Coventry, who will start an eight-year initial term as the Olympic body's first female leader and first from Africa. The IOC has classed the 71-year-old Bach as a volunteer on a full-time executive mission who 'should not have to finance activities related to his function from his personal savings.' Bach, who also gets living allowances, was paid from 12% to 15% what soccer gives its top elected officials. FIFA paid its president Gianni Infantino $5.2 million in taxable salary and bonus last year, plus other expenses. Infantino also is among the 109 IOC members and so can claim $7,000 each year for office costs and $450 daily allowance when on Olympic business. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin got almost $4.3 million in taxable income last year, including $300,000 from FIFA as one of its vice presidents. It is unclear if the 41-year-old Coventry will be a salaried president of the IOC instead of officially a volunteer. The IOC was asked for comment. The two-time Olympic champion in swimming left her job as sports minister of Zimbabwe after winning the seven-candidate IOC election in March. Bach's annual payment has been decided by the IOC's ethics commission on the stated principle 'the president should not financially benefit from his position.'
