A traffic stop conducted after automated readers flagged stolen licence plates on a vehicle resulted in dozens of drug, weapon and other charges against two people from Ottawa early Saturday.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers from the Ottawa detachment stopped the vehicle on Coventry Road in the east end just past midnight after being alerted to stolen licence plates by an Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) camera.

The investigation led to the arrest of both the driver and passenger, a news release said, adding that officers seized a replica firearm, drugs and multiple stolen pieces of identification.

Jari Manner, 43, was charged with: six counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purpose; two counts of trafficking in Schedule 1 substances; possession of instruments for forgery; six counts of identity theft; driving a motor vehicle without a licence; operating a motor vehicle without insurance; driving a motor vehicle without a permit; and driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

Lindsay Gnass-Wetzel, 36, was charged with: six counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000; possession of an imitation weapon for dangerous purpose; two counts of trafficking in Schedule 1 substances; and six counts of identity theft.

Highway 17 reopens in Blind River after crash

Update: Highway 17 has reopened following a collision in Blind River Monday morning. The roadway was closed between Birch Street and Leacoch Street until shortly after 1 p.m. Ontario Provincial Police have still not released any details concerning the crash, and our calls to police have not yet been returned. Original story: A collision has closed Highway 17 in Blind River, Ontario Provincial Police said Monday on social media. Police said the closure of Causley Street between Laborne Avenue and King Edward Street just after 11 a.m. The Ontario 511 had issued the alert just before 11 a.m. – however, 511 has since clarified that the road is now closed in both directions between Birch Street and Leacoch Street. Police have not released any details about the crash, the number of vehicles involved or if any injuries have been reported. CTV News has reached out to OPP for more information but has not yet heard back. No detours have been listed, and there is no estimated time for reopening. Police are on the scene. Police still trying to identify human remains found in Caledonia fire

Human remains found during a house fire in Caledonia almost a month ago still haven't been identified. Emergency services were originally called to Kinross Street on May 11 at around 3:32 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the home was already fully enveloped in flames. After crews put out the fire they found human remains inside. Investigators have not yet been able to determine who they belong to. The Haldimand County detachment of Ontario Provincial Police, the Office of the Fire Marshal, Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service continue to investigate. The fire is not considered suspicious and no foul play is suspected.
