Woman left in fear after man threatened to burn her house down, court told
Standing handcuffed in the dock of Coleraine Magistrates Court, the 29-year-old was charged with five offences
A woman has been left in a state of fear after being allegedly blackmailed for money by a man who threatened to burn her house down, a court has heard.
Isaac Woods is also accused of pushing a note through the letterbox of the female threatening: 'You made out to police that I threatened you for money. Well now I am. £200 on Sunday. I'm going to break in and burn your house. Not a threat. It's a fact.'
Standing handcuffed in the dock of Coleraine Magistrates Court, the 29-year-old was charged with five offences committed between 11-15 May including stalking, blackmail, harassment, and making a threat to destroy the complainant's home.
The court heard how after the woman returned from work last Wednesday her grandparents handed her the threatening note and she recognised the handwriting.
The alleged victim is 'scared that he (Woods) will show up at her work or her home address and his behaviour has become more erratic,' said a police officer, 'she's scared of what he would do after the threats to burn the house.'
The court was then told that during police interviews Woods, with an address at Chaine Court in Antrim, 'either gave no comment or denied the offences'.
The officer added that Woods has been on police bail pending further enquiries in relation to other serious matters.
As part of his bail conditions the defendant had been barred from contacting the woman, but by sending the mails and leaving the note, he has allegedly 'repeatedly tried to contact her'.
A lawyer for Woods argued that his client could be free on bail, however bail was refused and Woods was remanded into custody until June 10.

Drunk SNA smashed car into traffic lights in Dublin and knocked them over
Ines Perez (43), of Willowpark Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, pleaded guilty at Tallaght District Court to drink-driving on October 7, 2023. A special needs assistant who crashed when she was nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit, causing traffic lights in a south Dublin suburb to topple over, has been disqualified from driving for two years. Ines Perez (43), of Willowpark Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, pleaded guilty at Tallaght District Court to drink-driving on October 7, 2023. The court heard that Perez was driving a Volkswagen Polo along Scholarstown Road in Knocklyon shortly after 2am when she crashed into a light pole, causing nearby traffic lights to topple and block the road. The court heard that Garda Mark Faul, who was in the area, spoke to Perez, who had been driving the car. He noted signs of intoxication, after which Perez failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. Stock image: Getty Today's News in 90 Seconds - June 14 2025 A subsequent blood sample taken at a garda station showed a concentration of 144 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood - nearly three times the legal limit of 50mg. Garda Faul told the court that Perez had no previous convictions and was fully cooperative with the investigation. Her defence counsel, Ciara Ní Ghabhann BL, told the court that Perez is a mother of two children and had been going through an emotionally difficult breakup at the time. The court heard she rarely drank and was 'deeply embarrassed and anxious' to be before the court. The court heard Perez works as an SNA on a substitute basis and relies on her car to travel to different schools at short notice. Ms Ní Ghabhann asked the court to consider deferring the disqualification due to the possibility of a permanent role becoming available in September. Judge John O'Leary convicted Perez and imposed a €250 fine with six months to pay. He also disqualified her from driving for two years, with the ban deferred to begin on October 1, to allow her time to secure a permanent position. Funded by the Courts Reporting Scheme.

Carer loses HSE work after being caught on CCTV stealing from OAP (87) in his home
Sergeeevich had been a regular visitor to the elderly man's home, calling on a twice daily basis where he assisted with general house work and maintenance chores. Mikhail Sergeevich was dismissed from his job as a carer when his offending came to light, a court was told. This is the former full time carer who was sacked from his job when he was caught red-handed on CCTV stealing from his 87-year-old victim while in his own home. Thirty-year-old Mikhail Sergeevich had been employed with a private homecare company under the auspices of the HSE at the time an internal camera which had been installed in the old age pensioner's bedroom captured him pocketing €100 from the old age pensioner's wallet at Currygrane, Ballinalee, Co Longford. Sergeevich, of Derawley, Drumlish, Longford pleaded guilty to theft at a sitting of Longford District Court following the incident on October 8, 2024. Sgt Mark Mahon said Sergeeevich had been a regular visitor to the elderly man's home, calling on a twice daily basis where he assisted with general house work and maintenance chores. Mikhail Sergeevich on the steps of Longford Courthouse. The court was told how the alarm was raised just four days after a medicam was installed in the man's bedroom on foot of concerns from a relative that Sergeevich's client had become a fall risk. Judge Bernadette Owens was told when the elderly man's son checked the camera to determine whether it was working correctly Sergeevich was spotted reaching into the man's trousers which had been hanging on the back of a chair. Mikhail Sergeevich outside Longford Courthouse. News in 90 Seconds - 15th June 2025 The footage, Sgt Mahon said, went on to show the accused taking €100 in cash from the man's wallet and placing it in his own pocket moments before placing it back in the man's trousers and leaving the room moments later. Gardaí subsequently arrested Sergeevich and interviewed him over the contents of the camera footage at Granard Garda Station. During the course of that exchange, Sgt Mahon said the accused was fully cooperative and made 'full admissions' where he apologised over his role in the theft. In an attempt to illustrate that remorse, the court was told Sergeevich returned the stolen monies to his victim some two weeks later. Despite that measure, Sgt Mahon said Sergeevich was fired from his job when his employer learned of the details surrounding the incident. Defence solicitor Michelle Reynolds said her client was someone who had spent almost all of his adult life in Ireland where his involvement in both full time education and the wider labour force had remained constant since turning 18. Ms Reynolds said the latter was borne out by an over decade long association with an industry Sergeevich was forced to forego when his employment was terminated as a consequence of the incident. Mikhail Sergeevich was dismissed from his job as a carer when his offending came to light, a court was told. Now employed in a local factory, Ms Reynolds said Sergeevich had come to court with €400 in the hope his previous good character, lack of any previous convictions and cooperation with the ensuing garda investigation might convince the court to hold its hand in recording a criminal conviction against him. Judge Owens put the case back for consideration over lunch before returning to the issue of sentencing in the afternoon where she asked Sgt Mahon if the episode was a single, one-time encounter. Sgt Mahon replied, saying the State's evidence revolved that of a 'once off' incident, in a statement Ms Reynolds said was given further weight by the solitary offence her client was charged with, the prosecution's evidence concerning the stand-alone case that was before the court and the fact gardaí had investigated one incident. Following a brief pause, Judge Owens directed a probation report be carried out on Sergeevich and remanded him on bail to a sitting of Longford District Court on November 4 for the purposes of sentencing.
