Max Verstappen left furious as Spanish GP ruined late on and Oscar Piastri wins

Oscar Piastri led a McLaren one-two finish as he won the Spanish Grand Prix from pole position. He and Lando Norris were put under pressure by Max Verstappen throughout the Barcelona race, right up until a late safety car which ruined the Red Bull racer's chances. Verstappen had gone for an aggressive three-stop strategy which kept McLaren on their toes. But any chance he had of improving on a third-placed finish behind them evaporate when Kimi Antonelli suffered an engine failure, triggering a safety car with 10 laps to go and a mad dash to the pit lane. Because of his extra stop earlier in the race, the Dutchman only had one set of hard tyres left to have fitted to his car. The McLarens ahead were able to fit more of the softer and grippier compound, as were Charles Leclerc and George Russell behind him. A big snap of oversteer out of the final corner allowed Leclerc to pass immediately when the safety car peeled in and Russell might have got past straight away too had he not touched the Red Bull while trying into the first corner. But then it all kicked off between them as Verstappen, when advised to move over and cede the place to the Mercedes, appeared to make deliberate contact with Russell's car. "What the f***?" the Brit asked over the radio, before confirmation came that the Red Bull man was under investigation. Just 19 cars took to the grid after Aston Martin confirmed that Lance Stroll, feeling pain in his hand and wrist, would not race. And when the light went out, the battle for the lead between the two McLarens that had been so heavily built-up never materialised. Norris suffered a relatively poor launch off the line and that opened the door for Verstappen. The Dutchman swept around the outside of the McLaren and gave leader Piastri exactly what he wanted – someone to slow his team-mate and title rival down so he could build a comfortable lead. And that's what he did, creating a four-second gap to Norris by the time Verstappen peeled into the pits for his first tyre change. The Dutchman found a lot of grip on the set of softs he moved onto and cut through the cars ahead when he re-emerged, to the extend he had the lead of the race even after Piastri had stopped. But he was on 10-lap old softs when McLaren switched to the medium tyres and already starting to lose traction and time. "It's so hard to drive," Verstappen complained as Piastri closed in, before pitting for the second time before half distance to drop down to fourth place, just ahead of Hamilton. It was around that time that Alex Albon became the first retiree from the race. He had picked up front wing damage after contact with Liam Lawson early on and then copped a 10-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage – Williams served that penalty, sent their driver back out for one more lap and then ended his misery. At the front, Verstappen's strategy was aggressive but successful in putting pressure on the McLarens. The Dutchman was able to keep up with Norris and disavow the team of any notion they may have had about a one-two finish being little more than a formality. With 18 laps to go, he pitted for a third time to use new softs in the final stages to try to pile on the pressure. Sensing the danger, McLaren pulled Norris in just one lap later, and then Piastri, to put both also on the softs and remove the Red Bull rivals' advantage. As well as Sky Sports access, this includes more than 100 TV channels and free subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+. There were a hairy few moments as Norris and Verstappen approached backmarkers, including Lawson and Oliver Bearman who were duelling for position. As Lawson attempted the overtake, Norris was forced to slow and opened the door for Verstappen – only for the Dutchman to then also be impeded. "F***ing idiots!" Verstappen yelled over the radio, while also gesturing angrily as he passed them. And he was then left baffled by his own team when he was put onto the hard tyres as most cars stopped when Antonelli brought out the safety car because of a power failure, while the McLarens ahead were fitted with used softs.

Despite their best efforts, the youngster was pronounced dead at the scene. The official cause of Christopher's death will be determined by a pathologist at a later date. Speaking last Friday, Isle of Man Chief Constable Russ Foster explained that a probe had been launched and a youth had been taken into custody. He said: "It is with deep sorrow that I confirm the tragic death of Christopher McBurnie, who was just 14 years of age. "Our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy with the family, friends and loved ones during this extremely sad and difficult time. "A murder investigation has been launched and I can confirm a juvenile suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder. "Specialist officers are supporting Christopher's family and will continue to do so throughout the investigation." A JustGiving page set up to cover funeral costs for the teen has raised over £11,000 - more than double its £5,000 target. The fundraising organiser praised Christopher as a "beautiful" boy and called on fellow islanders to raise "much needed funds" for relatives. It read: "Christopher brought so much joy and love to his whole family who love him so deeply. "In the hope we can provide some comfort to Christopher's family at this very difficult time, I'm hoping our Island can come together and raise some much needed funds at this very sad time. "If you are able to donate, your kindness will make a tremendous difference to Christopher's family and help towards funeral costs." Chief Constable Foster also called on witnesses with footage of the horrific incident to avoid sharing it on social media and hand it in to police instead. He added: "We are aware that imagery of this incident was recorded by witnesses and is now featuring on social media platforms. "I'm mindful that social media features in all of our lives in one way or another, but that should not mean that our values and respect as a community should be compromised. "Distributing such imagery is likely to cause significant distress in a community which is already shocked by the magnitude of an extremely rare occurrence for the Isle of Man." The investigation has sent shockwaves across the island, which is ranked by the Global Residence Index as one of the safest places in the world.

Five disturbing details missing from Netflix's Chris Watts murder documentary

Netflix documentary American Murder: The Family Next Door tells the real-life story of how one man brutally murdered his wife and children, before dumping their bodies in the most callous way. However, some key details were omitted Netflix is known for its regularly updated stream of gripping and shocking true crime content, but one documentary remains one of the most horrifying. Viewers were left so deeply disturbed by Netflix documentary American Murder: The Family Next Door, they were 'sick to their stomach' when it was first added to the streaming platform. The show told the story of a father who brutally murdered his pregnant wife and children. ‌ On August 13, 2018, Chris Watts, 35, strangled his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, 34, to death and then killed his two daughters, Bella, four, and Celeste, three, in Colorado, where the family lived. Shanann's body was found on property owned by Anadarko Petroleum, one of the US's largest oil and gas drillers in Colorado, where Watts worked as an operator. Investigators found the bodies of Bella and Celeste nearby in an oil tank. ‌ Watts pleaded guilty to nine charges, including murder and the unlawful termination of a pregnancy. He is currently serving a life sentence without parole in Wisconsin. The Netflix documentary, which was aired in 2020, followed the tragic turn of events. From showing how Chris and Shannan met and began their romance to the aftermath of her and their daughters' murder, the documentary also used real-life footage to bring Watts' crimes to life. ‌ As seen on the doc, he eventually confessed to the triple murder, but some details from the story were omitted. Here, the Mirror looks at the five chilling details that were missing from the documentary, as reported by US news site 1. 'Evil' mother-in-law Shannan isn't thought to have had a good relationship with Chris Watts' parents and branded her mother-in-law, Cindy Watts, "evil". She believed Cindy endangered their youngest daughter, Celeste, by serving her ice cream with peanut chips, despite her severe nut allergy, Daily Mail reported. 'You should call your dad and tell him you did not appreciate your mom putting your daughter at risk today,' she told her husband in a furious message. 'She's evil and willing to risk your daughter's life just to get under my skin.' ‌ Tensions escalated to the point where Watts' parents reportedly blocked Shanann on Facebook and skipped Celeste's birthday party entirely. They hadn't even attended their son's wedding. As the doc showed, devastated Cindy vowed in court to continue to support her son despite his despicable crimes, which included the deaths of his young daughters. ‌ 2. Marriage obsession American Murder: The Family Next Door depicted Watts as having an affair with coworker Nichol Kessinger, but it didn't reveal that the illicit romance was a full-blown relationship and Kessinger had hopes of marrying Watts, reports Daily Mail. Just nine days before the murders, on August 4, 2018, Kessinger searched Google for over two hours, looking at wedding dresses. She also browsed topics related to 'marrying your mistress,' according to Business Insider. After discovering Watts had lied to her, Kessinger is said to have later filed to change her name in Jefferson County, Colorado. ‌ 3. Alleged affairs Amanda McMahon claimed she had a one-night stand with Watts in March 2018 after meeting him on Tinder. 'It got really fast and aggressive,' she said of the encounter. She told the police that she had to physically fight Watts off her after he turned violent, putting his hands around her throat and trying to initiate anal sex despite her reluctance. He also reportedly revealed details of his "rape fantasy" to her in extreme detail. And a few months after the murders, The Mirror spoke to the gay escort Trent Bolte, who claimed he had a 10-month affair with Watts in 2018. However, Watts denied any involvement. 'I've never been with a guy,' he told police. ‌ 4. Female prison visitor According to an 'Inmate Visitation History' document dated January 6, 2020, a woman named Anna Nowak was approved to see Watts and made 31 visits between March and December 2019. The document shows that she was once turned away after exceeding the maximum visits for a single day. 5. Plans for romantic getaway The documentary hinted at marriage troubles - using Shanann's own text messages, but she also made serious efforts to save the relationship - because she loved her husband and she didn't want a broken home for her two daughters who doted on their father, The Daily Mail reported that the unsuspecting spouse was looking for travel deals on Groupon and had also arranged childcare for Bella and Celeste so she and her future killer could holiday together. To the outside world, the Watts looked like any family next door - a loving couple and two adorable children living a happy, normal life together. But behind closed doors, it was a very different and horrifying story.
