Music equipment stolen from beloved Olympia nonprofit
A beloved nonprofit in Olympia that supports youth through music is asking for the community's help.
The Bridge Music Project says thieves broke into their headquarters last week and stole dozens of instruments.
Now, they're raising money to try and replace what was taken.
'These are tools that young artists rely on to express themselves, process trauma, and grow through music,' Executive Director Bobby Williams wrote on the online fundraiser page.
'What's most upsetting is that The Bridge is meant to be a safe and supportive space. This violation goes beyond stolen equipment. It shakes the sense of security we've worked so hard to build for our youth,' Williams continued.
The nonprofit has filed a police report and hopes to catch the people responsible.

CAT-astrophe: NYC couple claims beloved rescue kitty crushed by self-cleaning litter box
A Bronx woman came home to a grisly cat-astrophe — her beloved feline was fatally crushed by a self-cleaning litter box. Stephanie Gomez knew something was wrong when she stepped off the elevator in her Williamsbridge apartment building and heard one of her two cats, Sebastian, crying from down the hall, she said. The medical assistant opened her door to find Sebastian frantic — and her other cat, Sarabi, dead, partially stuck inside her Autoscooper 11 litter box. 4 Sarabi was a friendly, playful cat, said Gomez, who rescued the furball after finding her crying on the street on a rainy night in the Bronx. 'I turned on the light. . . . I saw my cat being crushed by the machine,' an emotional Gomez, 35, told The Post of the gruesome Jan. 27 incident. 'It was making an awful sound. 'The machine is supposed to automatically stop when there is a body in it. The machine did not stop, it was still trying to close on her.' The tiny domestic shorthair's body was cold to the touch, with its rear and hind legs sticking out of the machine, according to Gomez and a $3 million Bronx Supreme Court lawsuit she and her partner, Frank Gueits, filed. 'It was completely devastating,' she said. 'I collapsed.' 4 Stephanie Gomez insists she'll never trust a similar automated device again. J.C. Rice She immediately called Gueits for help. 'Stephanie was very frantic, very upset and crying,' he said, recalling Sarabi's body was so mutilated by the machine 'she looked like she was in an L shape. It was really heartbreaking to see.' The litter box, which retails for about $200, was a Christmas gift from Gomez' mother and advertised as 'remaining partially open at all times, with no complete enclosure that could entrap a pet,' according to the lawsuit, which names Pet Pivot, the California-based company which makes the Autoscooper 11, and Amazon, which sold the device. 'A catastrophic failure of the product's safety mechanisms' led to Sarabi's 'long, painful death,' Gomez and Gueits said in court papers. 4 The Autoscooper 11 advertises itself as safe and claims sensors prevent cats from being trapped inside. PetPivot/ Amazon The same night, Gueits, 48, found an Amazon review of the Autoscooper 11 from a cat owner who claimed the littler box 'nearly killed their cat,' but the review was later removed, the couple claimed. Gomez' mother got a full refund after Sarabi's death and a handwritten letter from PetPivot CEO Poppy Xie, which lacked company letterhead or an address, offering condolences and $10,000, Gomez said in legal papers. The couple believes 'the $10,000 offer was an effort to quietly settle or suppress claims relating to the product's fatal defect,' they contended. Sarabi, who weighed less than 10 pounds, 'was the sweetest little thing,' Gomez said. 'She was so wonderful, she was the friendliest kitty. She was . . . very talkative, and don't leave your plate of food unattended,' Gomez laughed. 'There's not a day that goes by that I don't mourn her.' 4 Sebastian still sleeps on the spot where Sarabi was killed, Gomez said. She rescued Sarabi more than a year earlier, after she heard the kitty crying on a rainy night outside her local laundromat, and followed the sound until she found the cat hiding under a van. She named the grey striped feline after a character in Disney's 'The Lion King.' Sebastian has been devastated by the loss, with Gomez hand-feeding him for weeks afterward. 'To this day, Sebastian sleeps on the spot where the Autoscooper had killed Sarabi,' according to the lawsuit. 'I will never trust an automated machine again,' Gomez said. 'I don't want this to happen to anyone else.' Amazon and Pet Pivot did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The device is still being sold — and advertised as safe, said Peggy Collen, the attorney representing Gomez and Gueits. 'Sarabi's death was not an accident,' Collen said. 'If this happened to Sarabi, it could happen to any cat.'

GoFundMe started for family of woman who died in boating accident at Bayou Sara
UPDATE (6/17 9:36 p.m.): Family and friends of Brittney Sherman, the woman who fell overboard and died after the boat she was riding in collided with another boat, has started a GoFundMe to raise money for the family she left behind. Sherman leaves behind her husband, Cody, and four children. According to the GoFundMe page, Cody is recovering from serious injuries and one of the couple's sons is in critical condition, both from the same accident that took Brittney's life. 'Cody Sherman and his family are going through something no one should ever have to face,' the post said. 'After a tragic boating accident, their world has been shattered.' Funds raised by the GoFundMe will be used for a number of things, from medical bills to bills in general as Cody now faces the daunting task of raising four children by himself, the post said. 'Any support — whether through donations, sharing, or prayers — means more than words can express,' the post said. 'The last thing Cody should be worried about right now is money.' The goal is at least $75,000, with $62,653 already raised, according to the GoFundMe page. To donate or leave words of support, visit the GoFundMe page. UPDATE (6/16 5:45 p.m.): Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency have released more information about a boat crash that left one woman dead and two others injured. According to ALEA, 27-year-old Brittney Sherman of Wilmer was killed when the boat she was a passenger in hit another boat, which was being operated by a 52-year-old Wilmer man. Officials said Brittney's husband, 30-year-old Cody Sherman, was also a passenger in the boat. He and a 4-year-old were taken to a local hospital for treatment. A 19-year-old Lucedale man was operating the boat that the family was in at the time of the crash. Neither the 19-year-old nor the 52-year-old operator of the other boat was injured during the crash. Brittney's body was found on June 16, just before 11 a.m., about 100 yards from where she fell into the water. The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 15. UPDATE (June 16, 4:30 p.m.) — News 5 has learned more about the woman who was missing following a Sunday evening boating incident in Bayou Sara in Saraland. CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Punch thrown at 'No Kings' protest in downtown Mobile The woman, identified as Brittney Sherman, reportedly fell overboard when the boat she was riding in collided with another boat Sunday evening. Sherman was married and had four children, according to family members. Those family members said Sherman's husband and one of their sons are being treated for injuries sustained during the incident. Several agencies, including the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Daphne Search and Rescue, and Mobile Police, searched for Sherman and finally located her body just after 1 p.m. Monday near Steele Creek, according to officials. 'In total, we had seven partnering agencies out here assisting us through today,' Mobile Police Spokesman Blake Brown said. ALEA is leading the investigation to find out why the two boats collided. UPDATE (June 16, 1:50 p.m.): First responders involved in the search have confirmed the woman's body has been recovered. Family members have identified the woman as Brittney Sherman. UPDATE (June 16, 11 a.m.): Mobile police continued search efforts Monday morning for a missing woman after a Sunday evening boating incident near Bayou Sara. MYSTERY: Over a dozen pelican corpses found on Mobile street, police respond The incident happened several miles south of the Bayou Sara Boat Launch, and the Mobile Police Department responded around 5:35 p.m., according to an MPD spokesperson. Responding officers discovered that an adult female was missing in the water.
