Bills Defend Defensive Focus in 2025 NFL Draft
The Buffalo Bills had nine draft picks throughout the 2025 draft. Seven of those picks were made on the defensive side of the ball.
There is good reason for this. Buffalo's offense is situated nicely with an MVP quarterback, a strong offensive line, and a dominant collection of skill players moving forward.

Defensively, though, Buffalo added many key players to each position group. Deone Walker solves their hole at defensive tackle, Maxwell Hairston is a day one starter at cornerback, and Landon Jackson is quality depth along the edge rusher role.
Still to avoid the offensive side of the ball is shocking.
General manager Brandon Beane made it clear there was a reason to the strategy and it makes the Bills looking stronger than ever at this point.
"I thought it was stronger with more depth on the defensive side of this draft," Beane said. "We talked about that even before the draft, the D-line, and there were some (positions) in the secondary. So, it truly comes down to where (the value) is when you're drafting or you're like, 'Man, I really like this guy. He can help us. Let's go up and get him.' We did that a couple times."

Buffalo has done enough to bolster the defense in a major way this offseason. The only hope is that it will be enough to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs moving forward.
That's what it all comes down to. And the Bills should be thrilled with how their improvements look early on.

Associated Press DENVER (AP) — Francisco Lindor had a soothing remedy for his broken right pinky toe — a go-ahead hit. Questionable before Friday's game, the Mets shortstop entered as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning and delivered a two-run double to send New York to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Rockies. Lindor sent a cutter from reliever Zach Agnos (0-2) into right field to score Juan Soto and a sliding Pete Alonso. It was Lindor's first go-ahead, pinch-hit RBI of his career, according to the postgame notes. 'Once it comes to those moments, I'm just there to make something happen,' Lindor explained. 'Just get a good pitch, and whatever happens, happens. Don't let the moment get too big.' He tuned out any pain from his toe once he stepped into the batter's box. 'Something is not 100% for sure. But I'm not the only one,' Lindor said. 'I would say most of the guys are not 100%. So there's no excuses." Lindor said manager Carlos Mendoza asked him around the fourth or fifth inning if he might be available to hit. His response was simple. 'I said, 'Yeah,'' Lindor recounted. Lindor's availability — pain and all — comes as no surprise to Alonso. 'That's really special, having a teammate willing to put his body on the line every single day like that,' said Alonso, who had a big game with his bat (a two-run double), his arm (he threw out a runner at home in the fifth) and his sliding ability (he avoided a tag at home on Lindor's double). 'That's a true pro, in my opinion, and he embodies that.' Lindor's pinky toe was broken by a pitch from Dodgers right-hander Tony Gonsolin in the first inning on Wednesday. He sat out Thursday and recovered enough to pinch-hit Friday. He may even be in the lineup on Saturday. 'I would like to start,' Lindor said. 'It's going to be up to the trainers and (Mendoza) and we are going to make a decision together. ... Hopefully tomorrow I'll wake up in a good spot.' Lindor is hitting .282 with 14 homers and 38 RBIs this season. He finished runner-up to Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani in the NL MVP race last season. Ronny Mauricio filled in for Lindor at shortstop against the Rockies on Friday. He had a double in the eighth, his first hit since being called up Tuesday. Manaea makes rehab start In Wilmington, Delaware, Mets lefty Sean Manaea made a rehab start for High-A Brooklyn against the Blue Rocks. He threw 36 pitches — 26 strikes — over 1 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs. Manaea, who has been sidelined all season by an oblique injury, struck out two and didn't walk a batter. The Sabres have RFAs in forward JJ Peterka and defenseman Bo Byram at the top of the list who could be used to make a big-swing deal. They've also got the No. 9 pick in the 2025 draft, and there's a debate to be had as to whether they should keep that pick or trade it in this kind of move.", Yerdon said. His ability to generate scoring chances for both himself and others could allow the Sabres to build a lethal offensive attack. Advertisement For the year, Robertson scored 35 goals and 45 assists for the Stars. Dallas was one of the better teams in the NHL this past season, with Robertson helping to lead the charge. Additionally, his $7.75 million salary cap hit would be fairly affordable for the Sabres to absorb. It remains to be seen how active Buffalo will be this summer, but Robertson could be a solid option. Future Hall of Famer and free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has put an end to this offseason's most grueling waiting game by confirming that he plans to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Advertisement NFL Network insiders Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport report that Rodgers will sign a one-year contract that an NFL source has suggested to us might be valued in the $30 million range. He is expected fly to Pittsburgh soon and participate in the upcoming mandatory minicamp next week. The Steelers front office now sees their patience and optimism pay off as they completely built their NFL Draft plan based on the assumption that Rodgers would sign and allow them to target other needs outside of a quarterback ... although they only had Mason Rudolph on contract. Pittsburgh would ultimately draft Will Howard as well, but they now fall down the depth chart to back up the four-time MVP. Rodgers enters the AFC North with the opportunity to draw the Steelers closer to contention with the Baltimore Ravens for the division crown. Last season, the Steelers finished second with a 10-7 record - two games behind the division champion Ravens. The 41-year-old is coming off a lousy 2024 campaign with the New York Jets, but with a better supporting cast and new environment to ease his mental state (as best it can), hopefully Rodgers' play will see a bit of resurgence. Advertisement He joins forces with star receiver DK Metcalf and tight end Pat Freiermuth as solid receiving targets along with an eclectic group of pass catchers in Calvin Austin, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods to work with. Rookie running back Kaleb Johnson may start after Najee Harris left in free agency, so the pass game quickly turns into the Steelers expected identity rather than the run with an inexperienced ball carrier. Pittsburgh likely still prefers their chances this season with Rodgers much more than last year's cycle between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields under center, despite the team's moderate success. The end-of-season collapse, however, was especially disappointing. Rodgers' veteran experience could alleviate any of that worry this year. Advertisement The Steelers finished with a 3-3 record in the division during the regular season - beating and losing to each team once. In the Wild Card round of the playoffs, their season came to an end against Baltimore, losing 28-14. The Ravens enter 2025 just as much of a threat as in years past and will remain the Steelers toughest competition in the division. Their Week 11 meeting, an 18-16 Pittsburgh win, was thanks to the heroics of kicker Chris Boswell who accounted for all of the scoring on six field goals. More offensive firepower with Rodgers at the helm should help eliminate low-scoring affairs like this one and many of the Steelers' losses. Having big showings against the division will be extra crucial in revamping this offense's reputation. The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to return many of their offensive weapons as well, with the trio of Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins all on new contracts. Their defense, however, offered little to worry about outside of pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who is angrily waiting on a deal of his own. If Cincy has any hopes of rebounding from their 9-8 season, Hendrickson is a huge part of that. Advertisement Pittsburgh put on a clinic in their first meeting with Cincinnati, but as the story of the season was, the consistency pendulum swung the opposite way the second time around. The Cleveland Browns are again expected to be the bottom dwellers in the AFC North, as they have an even more controversial quarterback situation than Pittsburgh this offseason. Last season faired decently well for the Steelers, but the addition of Rodgers and Metcalf provide a major shake-up to the offense that head coach Mike Tomlin should be more confident in this season against the AFC North.
