Mookie Betts, Nashville native and Dodgers baseball star, becomes pro bowling team owner

Yahoo02-04-2025

In 2010, Major League Baseball star Mookie Betts was named The Tennessean's Bowler of the Year when he was at John Overton High School.
Back then, most people thought bowling was just a hobby that Betts enjoyed when he wasn't playing baseball.
However, over the years Betts has continued to take bowling seriously. He posted a 300 perfect game in 2017, was a member of the Professional Bowlers Association tour and competed in the World Series of Bowling.
Betts is taking another big step in his bowling shoes today by becoming the first owner of a franchise he's named Team OMG in the World Bowling League.
WBL organizers announced the mixed gender league's formation in 2024 with 12-15 events planned each year between eight to 12 teams located in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Betts is joined by his lifelong friend and business partner with The One Marketing Group, Cam Lewis.
'Bowling has always been my home away from the diamond,' Betts said. 'It's a sport of precision, mindset, and community values I've carried my entire career. With Team OMG, we want to inspire bowlers and fans everywhere, showing them that bowling has the excitement and the commercial appeal to compete with the world's best sports leagues."
Betts, a three-time World Series champion and eight-time All-Star, said some of the WBL teams will be located in New York, Dubai, and Singapore.
The WBL is owned by League Sports Co. Games will be played at a fast pace with special rules in place to transform the sport.
'We are here to break boundaries, unite communities, and bring bowling into the spotlight,' said LSC founder and CEO Adi K. Mishra. "Mookie Betts and Team OMG embody everything this league stands for — focus, energy, and relentless dedication. Mookie is a world-class athlete, and a true ambassador for bowling. His passion for the game and his vision for its future align perfectly with what we're building.'
Music City Baseball, formed in 2019 with a goal to bring a Major League franchise to Nashville, announced a partnership with Nashville-based Lincoln Property Company, a real estate services firm, to secure a location for a multi-purpose venue to be built.
Music City Baseball managing director John Loar told The Tennessean his group has identified six to eight locations where a stadium could be built in the Nashville area.
"This partnership is an important step in the long-term strategy to bring Major League Baseball to Nashville," Loar said. "Identifying and securing the ideal site for a potential multi-purpose entertainment venue and stadium that could host baseball will be critical in making sure Nashville is prepared when Major League Baseball is ready to expand."
Major League commissioner Rob Manfred has indicated he hopes to have a process in place for the league to expand from 30 to 32 teams by 2029.
"We are proud to be a part of the incredible economic growth and momentum in Nashville as the city has become a top travel destination in the U.S.," said Lincoln Property executive vice president Tyler Jones. "And we welcome the opportunity to help identify and develop a site that can bring Major League baseball to Nashville."
Loar said the East Bank of the Cumberland River remains a possible location for a stadium along with several sites in Williamson County.
The Nashville Sounds announced their second annual Sounds Scramble Charity Golf Tournament will be May 12 at Hermitage Golf Course.
Participants will have the opportunity to play alongside Nashville Sounds players and coaches, and all funds raised will support the Nashville Sounds Foundation.
Registration is open through May 11 at Sounds Scramble.

In Or Out – Next 24-48 Hours Decisive For Inter Milan Pursuit Of Cesc Fabregas

In Or Out – Next 24-48 Hours Decisive For Inter Milan Pursuit Of Cesc Fabregas The next 24-48 hours will be decisive for Inter Milan in their efforts to make Como's Cesc Fabregas their next coach. This according to today's print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement The last couple of days have been an absolute whirlwind at Inter Milan. On Monday, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi officially stepped down after four years in charge. The 49-year-old then officially became the coach of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. Inter have made Como coach Cesc Fabregas their top target to replace Inzaghi. Despite only being 38 years of age, the former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder has already massively impressed with his work on the bench at Como. Advertisement Yesterday, Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio was in London. And he did meet with Fabregas there. The Nerazzuri executive looked to convince Fabregas on the club's project. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Inter have also had to deal with Como, who will hardly be keen to lose hold of their coach. As of yet, there is still a lot of uncertainty on both fronts. Fabregas, for his part, has neither accepted nor rejected a move to Inter. And Como have not yet green lighted the move. But the uncertainty won't be hanging around for long. The Gazzetta report that, whether Fabregas decides to join Inter or stay at Como, it will be in the next 24-48 hours. He could be Inter's new coach by the start of the weekend.

Babcock & Wilcox Announces Agreement to Sell Its Diamond Power International Business

- $177 million in total consideration subject to customary fees and adjustments- Industrial, utility and data center power demand is increasing globally- B&W now well-capitalized and poised to leverage growth in 2025 and beyond AKRON, Ohio, June 05, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises, Inc. ("B&W" or the "Company") (NYSE: BW) announced today that it has reached an agreement to sell its Diamond Power International business ("Diamond Power") to Austria-based ANDRITZ for $177 million, subject to customary fees and adjustments. The sale is expected to close within approximately 30 days and will include the transfer of approximately 400 employees to ANDRITZ. "B&W has had a strong start to 2025 and has achieved the highest bookings and backlog in decades from our parts and services business in addition to our already strong backlog from Thermal projects, upgrades and construction, primarily in North America," said Kenneth Young, B&W Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our core parts, services and construction businesses demonstrated solid performance in Q1 and continue to excel in Q2 as the rising energy needs of data centers and industrial and utility markets fuel demand for our offerings. The sale of Diamond Power, which achieves annual revenues in the range of $110 million, will be transformational and will reinforce the value of our underlying assets as we re-capitalize our businesses going forward." "With a strong balance sheet, we are well-positioned to win new gas conversions, plant upgrades and behind-the-meter data center projects in North America and beyond," Young added. "We're also seeing additional demand for our BrightLoop™ technologies – both for steam generation and hydrogen production that can produce energy with lower costs and expenditures than other hydrogen technologies. Our unique technology – which is capable of supporting utilities and industries with low-cost hydrogen and steam generation while capturing CO2 – demonstrates the spirit of innovation and strong engineering capabilities that have driven B&W throughout its history and will be the foundation of our growth strategy for years to come." "Diamond Power provides boiler cleaning and monitoring solutions for utilities and industries around the world, and we're grateful for the decades of hard work and dedication shown by its employees," said Christopher Riker, B&W Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
