Hazrat Ali (AS), the fourth caliph of Islam, advised his sons, Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS): "Keep your affairs in order and maintain harmony in your relationships because I heard your grandfather, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his progeny), say: 'Resolving mutual conflicts is superior to canonical prayers and fasting of a year'."
You need a childlike way of spending life to usher in happiness in whatever you do or whosoever you interact with. Unsoiled by all guile and craft, children deal with others to enjoy themselves and please others. They don't prolong their anger into malice. They do throw tantrums, but a change of time and space puts them in new avatars.
One thing we must know is that to be happy is an act willingly orchestrated and a state of mind followed by the selfless pursuit of that act. The motivation behind that act is actually what decides the nature and sustainability of our happiness.
Social media and texting go abuzz with unsolicited moral policing exhorting the importance of letting go of old grudges on the occasion of Eid. One should let bygones be bygones, but there is an ultra-thin borderline between self-respect and ego.
Our first overtures to mend fences face the static friction caused by our ego. To initiate resumption is the negation of our ego. It saves us from self-blaming and self-loathing for not having exhausted our options to salve the tattered relationship. "The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree); but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah; verily Allah loveth not those who transgress." – The Quran (42:40)
But if anyone still stands egotistically adamant, now your self-respect must nag you to desist from stooping too low lest the other person might get emboldened with his arrogance. To save him from being solidified on his stance, now leave your sincerity to prick his conscience. One must learn to manage one's Stone Age brain in the 21st century.

The 13th annual World Happiness Report 2025 describes an experiment wherein people express low probability of the lost wallet being returned. The results were against their apprehensions: "The rate of wallets returned was almost twice as high as people predicted." The distrust was termed 'empathy gap'.
The report concludes that "belief in the kindness of others was more closely tied to happiness." John F Helliwell, an economist at the University of Columbia and a founding editor of the report, says the wallet experiment proves, "People are much happier living where they think people care about each other."
"Look seriously at the people with whom you are working, with whom you are living, who are on your streets, and put on a rosier set of glasses when you're dealing with them. And that'll change your behaviour in traffic. It'll change your behaviour in political discussions. It'll change everything," Helliwell said.
Psychologists assert that to make opinions of others is to search our psychic equivalence, "wherein we project our mental states into reality and others' minds".
Dr Lara Aknin, professor of social psychology at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia and an editor of the World Happiness Report, warns: "If we expect the worst of others, we walk around the world fearful, and that matters for our own well-being."
Our good experiences are short-lived than the negative ones unless we make an effort to let them stay with us. That's the premise of Hardwiring Happiness, a book by psychologist Rick Hanson who explores how consciously sticking to positive moments counterbalances the brain's built-in negative bias. "Your brain has a negativity bias that makes it like Velcro for negative experiences and Teflon for positive ones," Hanson says.

Women get ready for meaty feasts
The women of the city have completed the three-day preparations for Eidul Azha. From meat dishes to home decorations, from new clothes for children to their own adornment, women have completed every task. On Eidul Azha, while men were busy buying sacrificial animals, women took on all the responsibilities inside the house. A day before Eid, homemakers have completely cleaned the refrigerator and deep freezer so that there is no problem in preserving the sacrificial meat. They have also bought spices to prepare delicious dishes from the sacrificial meat. Foodies have also submitted their food lists. The regular favourites include biryani, pulao, karhai and barbecue items. While scores of young ones are glued to online sites for culinary experiments with sacrificial meat. Zakia, a homemaker from Scheme 33, while talking to The Express Tribune said, "I have started cleaning, arranging the dishes and organising the kitchen. I have prepared everything, including children's clothes and my own shoes. The rush in the kitchen will start from the morning of Eid, but happiness has its own taste, the spirit of Eidul Azha." Similarly, Razia, a 45-year-old from Gulshan-e-Iqbal, said, "These days are tiring for us. We have made special arrangements to handle the meat. I have even crushed special spices and the preparation of various meat dishes will start from the morning of Eid." Razia said she also went to the parlor to look fresh on Eid. It will be a holiday for the maids and we will be in the kitchen. Hufsa upbeat on the annual meat bonanza said: "My message to young girls, if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Eid celebrated in parts of Khyber district
KHYBER: Khyber district's Bara region witnessed divided Eid celebrations once again as nearly 30 percent of the local population observed Eidul Adha Friday, in line with Saudi Arabia. The rest of the population plans to celebrate the festival today (on Saturday), as per the official announcement by Pakistan's central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. According to the report, hundreds of worshippers offered Eid prayers in Bara. After the prayers, people returned to their homes to fulfil the Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi—the ritual animal sacrifice performed in remembrance of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim's (AS) obedience to God. This year, Eid al-Adha fell on June 6 in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Gulf countries, as well as Indonesia. Meanwhile, many other countries, including Pakistan and India, will observe it on June 7. Globally, there are approximately 1.9 billion Muslims— around 25 percent of the world's population. Indonesia has the largest Muslim population, with about 230 million, followed by Pakistan with 212 million, India with 200 million, Bangladesh with 150 million, and Nigeria with 100 million Muslims.

Unite for benignity
Listen to article It's again time to smile and embrace each other. The festive occasion of Eid-ul-Azha that reminds of the gracious sacrificial spirit of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and Prophet Ismael (AS) should come as an opportunity to cajole our lives in the spirit of submission to Almighty, trueness to humanity and eagerness to stand tall for the cause of compassion and benevolence. This Eid that comes on the heels of one of the greatest Islamic rituals, Hajj – circumambulation of the Holy Kaaba – is also a reminder of selflessness and of how millions of Muslims from around the world travel to the holy lands and brave heat and odd conditions to seek divine blessings, meant to redirect their lives in all humility. This year as the nation celebrates Eid, it should also reflect on the socio-economic and societal conditions around, and form a human chain to come to each other's redress. Economic degeneration and political discord are two of the greatest challenges facing the nation, and this year the aggression from a warmongering eastern neighbour has brought to the fore as to how important is national unity, and how inevitable is seeking lessons from the great religion of Islam in the domains of sacrifice, national service and commitment to oneness. The nation today must revisit the fundamentals of tender-heartedness and brotherhood. The lesson of sacrifice on this day teaches the indispensable virtues of obedience to divine commandments, as solicited and performed by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) by laying down his son to slaughter. All that he was exhibiting is his faith in Almighty, and establishing beyond doubt that submission to His will is ultimate. The bounties that are served on this day must have a judicious and God-fearing dissemination among the needy. The spirit must be to ensure that all are in it, and none are ignored. This belief must persist throughout the year by upholding benevolence, helping overcome the prevailing sense of otherness so that benignity sets in, and discords and discriminations in society are done away with.
