Silent Deaths: Gaza's Children Dying Amid Worsening Famine

DaysofPal- Hunger in Gaza is no longer just a fleeting feeling—it has become a harsh reality imposed by the brutal Israeli blockade. With border crossings shut for over 70 consecutive days, Israel continues to weaponize hunger against the people of Gaza. Families are unable to provide even a single meal a day.
Children suffer from malnutrition due to the unavailability of vitamin- and protein-rich foods like vegetables and fruits. Young men are physically exhausted, unable to carry out daily tasks due to insufficient food intake. Infants go to sleep hungry because their families cannot afford milk. Gaza has become 'uninhabitable.'
Each passing day brings more suffering for the besieged population. For many Palestinian families, even obtaining a loaf of bread has become a distant dream due to flour shortages and skyrocketing prices. A single sack of flour now costs up to 1,000 shekels—an unaffordable sum for families already devastated by over 18 months of war.
Since March 2, Israel has tightened its siege, blocking aid—including meat, vegetables, and fruit—and forcing bakeries to shut down due to a lack of flour and fuel.
In one displaced persons' tent in Gaza City, Abu Muhammad Mohsen, who fled northern Gaza, faces an empty food stockpile. 'We're living in unbearable conditions,' he told Felesteen newspaper. 'The crossings are closed, and Israel refuses to allow in humanitarian aid. We are starving. Our children are starving. We can't even find food to keep them alive.'
Mohsen, supporting a family of seven, said: 'For days, we've had no flour, no legumes, no gas, and no milk for the children. We can barely scrape together one meal, and food charities haven't come by for over a week. Our suffering grows worse every day.'
'We feel like strangers in our own homeland,' he added, staring at the empty food shelves in his tent. 'To the world I say: Help Gaza! Must our children die of hunger before you act?'
Yousef Dawoud, another displaced father of five, echoes the same desperation: 'Hunger is devouring my family. We lack even the bare essentials of life. I've had to grind lentils and pasta into flour to feed my children.'
'The famine worsens by the day,' he said, 'and death stalks us at every moment due to the lack of food.'
Elderly Abu Muhammad Mahdi said, 'We're living a real famine. No food, no flour—this is an unprecedented humanitarian disaster. We've lost even the charity meals that used to come once a day.'
'If the crossings remain closed,' Mahdi warned, 'many children, the elderly, and people of all ages will face certain death. We lack vital foods like vegetables and fruits, which provide the energy and vitamins our bodies need.'
According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report issued by UNRWA, 470,000 people in Gaza are expected to face catastrophic hunger (Phase 5) between May and September 2025, marking a 25% increase from previous estimates. The report confirms that all residents of Gaza are experiencing severe food insecurity.
The Government Media Office in Gaza stated that Israel is deliberately engineering a famine by continuing to close border crossings for more than 70 days and bakeries for over 40 days, while blocking the entry of 39,000 aid trucks, including essential food, fuel, and medical supplies.
In a press release, the office held Israel and its military and political backers—particularly the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France—legally and morally responsible for the grave humanitarian crimes being committed and their catastrophic impact on civilian life, public health, and the fate of hundreds of thousands of children, the sick, and the elderly.

Israeli strike on Khan Younis kills 18 displaced; Gaza death toll rises to 26 since dawn

DaysofPal- The death toll in Gaza continues to climb rapidly following a night of intense Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks across the besieged territory, with reports of at least 26 Palestinians killed since dawn on Wednesday, according to medical sources. The most devastating attack occurred overnight in Khan Younis, where an Israeli airstrike targeted a school sheltering displaced families. At least 18 people were killed in the strike, many of them newly displaced from eastern Khan Younis. The bombing underscores the ongoing collapse of any sense of 'safe zones,' as areas designated for shelter continue to come under fire. Other deadly incidents were reported across northern Gaza, including Jabalia and Gaza City. In southwest Gaza City, a man and his children were killed by an Israeli drone strike as they left the house where they were taking refuge in. Another drone attack in Jabalia killed two more civilians. An Israeli airstrike on a tent housing displaced people in the port area of Gaza killed at least seven people and injured a number more. The victims were transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital, which remains overwhelmed with casualties and critically short on medical supplies. Further south, another displaced person was killed and others injured when a drone targeted a tent west of Khan Younis. Simultaneously, Israeli warplanes, supported by artillery shelling, struck the towns of Bani Suhaila and Abasan al-Kabira, both east of Khan Younis. An Israeli airstrike on a tent settlement for displaced people in Gaza City's Al-Rimal neighborhood, where thousands of people had sought refuge after fleeing violence in northern Gaza, killed eight more people and injured several more on Tuesday. Adding to the chaos, Israeli forces reportedly opened fire on civilians near the Nablus roundabout, west of Gaza City, injuring an unspecified number of Palestinians. Despite mounting international condemnation, including over attacks in the vicinity of designated 'aid areas,' the Israeli military has reportedly imposed temporary restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid. In the past 24 hours, 40 people have been killed, including one who was recovered, and 208 injured have arrived at hospitals in the Gaza Strip, according to the Ministry of Health's daily report. Yesterday's death toll increased to 85. The death toll and number of injuries since March 18, 2025, have reached 4,240 dead and 12,860 injured. The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that a large number of victims remain under the rubble and on the streets, inaccessible to ambulance crews and civil defense teams. The Israeli aggression has killed 54,510 people and injured 124,901 since October 7, 2023. Shortlink for this post:

'Now, not tomorrow': Gaza hospitals plead for immediate blood units

DaysofPal- A severe lack of blood supplies and the increasing number of casualties are causing the Gaza Strip's healthcare system to collapse as a result of Israel's unrelenting attack. Medical professionals across Gaza have issued urgent appeals for the immediate entry of blood units and essential medical equipment, warning that patients are dying daily for lack of basic transfusion support. At the heart of the crisis is al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, the largest and most severely impacted medical facility in the enclave. Its director, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, described the situation as catastrophic. 'We are completely unable to provide blood units for the wounded and sick,' said Abu Salmiya. 'Young men and women come to us to donate blood, only to discover that they need blood transfusions due to severe malnutrition.' He stressed the devastating toll this shortage is taking: 'We are losing a large number of wounded people every day due to the lack of blood units, amid a continuous and massive influx of casualties every minute.' 'We are asking nothing from the world except for the immediate entry of blood units into the Gaza Strip … now, not tomorrow.' The situation is no better across other hospitals in the Strip. Sahar Ghanem, director of the Medical Laboratories and Blood Banks Department, reinforced the desperate need for both blood and the equipment necessary to test, store, and transport it. 'We are facing a shortage of blood bank supplies in all hospitals in the Gaza Strip,' Ghanem said. 'Malnutrition has had a significant impact on the number of blood donors, yet people continue to donate whatever they can.' However, the limited pool of donors, many of whom are themselves anemic, has forced hospitals to break international health protocols. 'We're collecting blood even from donors who don't meet the necessary criteria,' she revealed. 'That includes donors who are anemic, which is medically prohibited, but we have no other choice.' She noted that supplies are rapidly consumed across major facilities such as Nasser Medical Complex, Al-Shifa Hospital, and other hospitals still functioning under extreme conditions. Ghanem called for the urgent import of blood units, blood bags, and testing and storage equipment, adding that the health of the population must also be improved through aid and nutrition so that more people can safely donate blood. Abu Salmiya reiterated this call during an interview with Al Jazeera, highlighting that many lives were lost not from the severity of wounds but simply due to the inability to provide transfusions. As the health system in Gaza teeters on the brink of total collapse, the Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that among the many people in urgent need of blood were those injured in the recent Israeli massacre in Rafah. At Nasser Hospital, officials issued a call for citizens to donate blood around the clock, stating that the scale of the ongoing Israeli bombardment had caused the facility to nearly run out of blood supplies altogether. Human Rights Watch: Gaza War Puts Credibility of International Justice to the Test

DaysofPal – Milena Ansari, a legal researcher at Human Rights Watch, has asserted that the prolonged Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip—now exceeding 600 days—represents a defining test for the credibility of international justice, especially amid the global failure to stop what she described as 'acts amounting to genocide.' In an interview with Palestine Online, Ansari criticized the refusal of certain states, particularly the United States and Hungary, to enforce the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She described this inaction as 'a direct insult to the victims of these crimes' and a severe blow to the integrity of international accountability mechanisms. Ansari noted that Human Rights Watch and other organizations have documented Israel's use of starvation and the denial of medical access as weapons of war. By blocking the entry of essential supplies such as food, water, and medicine, she explained, the occupation has caused thousands of preventable deaths—especially among children, the elderly, and the chronically ill. She also condemned the surge in settler violence and the continued forced displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank, describing these actions as part of Israel's ongoing apartheid system and a deliberate policy of ethnic cleansing. Despite the grim circumstances, Ansari expressed cautious optimism over emerging legal and diplomatic developments. She welcomed moves by several European governments to reevaluate their political and military relations with Israel and urged international legal bodies to expand arrest warrants to include all officials involved in documented war crimes and crimes against humanity. She concluded by emphasizing that 'justice begins in the streets,' crediting grassroots activism and public pressure for influencing recent shifts in the stance of Western governments toward Israel's actions in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
