TWELVE more bodies have been pulled from the rubble after the deadliest Russian strike on Kyiv this year.
Vladimir Putin's overnight blitz on the Ukrainian capital yesterday killed 28 people and injured 134 - as an EU chief warned Europeans to "start learning Russian" unless they step up support for Ukraine.

On the night of Monday to Tuesday, Russia blasted 27 locations in Kyiv, with 440 drones and 32 missiles hammering the city for nine hours, according to Ukrainian officials.
Buildings and critical infrastructure facilities were damaged.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called it 'one of the most terrible strikes on Kyiv'.
Zelensky said on Tuesday: 'In Kyiv, people are currently trying to get out of the rubble of an ordinary residential building. It is not clear how many there are.
"The Russians destroyed an entire entrance.'
Earlier reports confirmed 15 people dead, including a 62-year-old American citizen.
One missile struck a nine-storey apartment block in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district - demolishing a whole section of the building.
Six bodies were pulled from the debris on Wednesday afternoon.
The updated death toll has risen to 28, as of the latest update on Wednesday afternoon, but people are still missing, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Spokesperson Svitlana Vodolaha said: "We don't have exact information. The city authorities said some people haven't been in contact. We know that 35 apartments have been destroyed. The search operation is still ongoing."

Overnight attacks also struck the Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad and Mykolaiv regions.
Blasts at the Black Sea port of Odesa killed 2 people and injured 17.
Ukraine marked a day of mourning on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the European Commission announced on Tuesday its plans to stop all Russian fossil fuel imports by the end of 2027.
Regardless of developments in the Russia-Ukraine war, fuel imports - including gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) - will be phrased out.
But Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, says the EU is not doing enough to stop the war - which has raged for over three years.
Speaking in the European Parliament, she warned of Russia's "direct threat to the European Union".
"Last year, Russia spent more on defence than the European Union combined," Kallas said, as reported by The Guardian.
"This year, Russia is spending more on defence than its own healthcare, education and social policy combined. This is a long-term plan for a long-term aggression," she said.
Kallas urged European officials: "We have to do more more for Ukraine, for our own security too.
"To quote my friend NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte: if we don't help Ukraine further, we should all start learning Russian.
'The stronger Ukraine is on the battlefield today, the stronger they will be around the negotiation table when Russia finally is ready to talk.'
It comes as Ukraine's second largest city Kharkiv was bombarded overnight with 48 kamikaze drones, missiles and guided bombs, just over a week ago.
The assault killed three people and injured 21.

Ukraine war briefing: Russia can defend itself, says Putin, as North Korea sends more soldiers
Vladimir Putin said on Thursday he was ready to meet with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy but only during a 'final phase' of negotiations 'so as not to sit there and divide things up endlessly, but to put an end to it'. Putin made his customary false accusation that Zelenskyy is not Ukraine's legitimate president. In a round-table interview in St Petersburg with international news agencies, Putin said on Nato: 'We do not consider any Nato rearmament to be a threat to the Russian Federation, because we are self-sufficient in terms of ensuring our security.' Russia has brought in thousands of North Korean soldiers to help defend Kursk; and has relied on a flood of arms and ammunition from North Korea as well as Iranian drones and missiles to wage war on Ukraine; while also receiving suspected help from China to continue arming a 'special military operation' that Putin thought would be over in three days. The potential collapse of the Iranian regime would be a serious blow to Putin, Russian affairs reporter Pjotr Sauer writes. Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to attend the Nato summit in The Hague on 24-25 June, a source in the Ukrainian presidency told the AFP news agency on Wednesday. 'The decision will be made on the eve of the summit. This is just the schedule,' the source said, describing the meeting as 'an opportunity to maintain support and promote a ceasefire'. Nato leaders want to keep the summit brief so as not to aggravate Donald Trump and his short attention span, the Times has reported (£). Senior Ukrainian officials at the G7 summit in Canada discussed with US counterparts the possibility of supporting defence projects in Ukraine under a joint investment fund set up in May, Kyiv's first deputy prime minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, said on Wednesday. The talks included the US treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, Svyrydenko said. The death toll from Tuesday's Russian attack on Kyiv stood at 28, with more than 130 injured, as the recovery of bodies continued at destroyed apartment blocks. Russia's defence ministry claimed its forces hit a Ukrainian troop position in the Sumy region with an Iskander missile. The Reuters news agency said it could not independently confirm the battlefield report, or determine exactly when it took place. Ukrainian authorities on Monday reported an Iskander missile strike on Konotop damaged flats in multi-storey buildings with no casualties. Ukraine is trying to drive Russian forces from the Sumy region where border areas are gripped by heavy fighting. Slovak police have detained eight people, including defence ministry officials, in an investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office into possible misuse of €7.4m for military aid to Ukraine at the start of the war in February 2022. Jaroslav Nad, who was Slovakia's defence minister at the time, has called the police action 'theatre'. Slovakia's pro-Russia current prime minister, Robert Fico, has taken sharp policy turns since taking power in 2023 – stopping military aid to Ukraine and making a trip to Moscow that fuelled large and widespread protests in opposition to his stance on Ukraine.

Chilling moment thieves steal car with wireless device in seconds as new doc reveals how Brit motors end up in Lithuania
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CHILLING footage shows the moment thieves stole a car in just seconds using a wireless device. Investigative reporter Matt Shea went undercover for Channel 4 Dispatches to shed light on organised criminal gangs specialising in car thefts. A sneak peek at the much-anticipated programme shows two car thieves demonstrating using keyless technology bought from the dark web. Footage shows the pair revealing to Shea exactly how they can steal a car in just 20 seconds. Thief 'T' and an accomplice demonstrated how they use an amplifier, which looks similar to a radio or walkie-talkie. It picks up the signal from the "key" inside a home and uses it to unlock a car parked outside. The device works by scrambling the signal from a remote key fob, and was used in nearly 60 percent of car thefts in the UK last year. After just a few seconds of holding the amplifier outside the window, the car door unlocked, allowing T to simply open the door and start up the engine. Once the engine had started, the accomplice could take the amplifier, jump in the car and they drove off, with the entire theft taking less than 20 seconds. Asked if they feel anything for the people they steal from they respond: 'These cars are insured, that's like, that a first world problem, you know, there's bigger s*** going on out there,. "Like your f***ng Range Rover's gone, boo-hoo, go and buy another one, man.' "The Teslas aren't easy, I don't think anyone's figured that out yet, because they are proper high tech' the thieves claim. Moment cops snare 'Rolex Ripper' gang after brazen watch thieves try to rob pair…only to find they're undercover police However, they brazenly boasted that others makes and models are easy to steal. The men claimed they have taken up to 20 vehicles a month for as much as £5,000 per car, depending on its value. They told Shea that up to 90 per cent of cars are broken down for their parts. Last year approximately 355 vehicles were stolen every day in England and Wales. The shocking finds equate to a stolen car every four minutes, and more than 70 per cent the amount stolen a decade ago. Freedom of Information requests to police forces in England and Wales also reveal that – for the 18 forces who responded - only 3.4 per cent of reports of a car being stolen between 2020 and 2024 led to someone being charged or summonsed. In the documentary, criminals revealed how highly organised gangs stole cars, dismantling them at so called 'chop shops' before shipping them out of the country to Eastern Europe. The programme reveals how a blue Audi A4, fitted with a hidden tracker, was stolen from a woman's driveway in north London on March 15. The car's GPS signal showed the Audi moving east towards the borough of Enfield and then switching off. Five weeks later, the tracker suddenly reappeared in Kaunas, Lithuania, and was tracked to a business in the outskirts of the city called Baltic Car Trade. Dispatches filmed the police raid on the property, but instead of finding a blue Audi A4, all they found that was left of the vehicle was a bunch of wires. The car, like many stolen off British streets, was long gone having been torn apart. 5 One Audi A4 tracker was found in Lithuania with the car long gone Credit: Channel 4 Dispatches

Over 2.7million households to get free £150 cost of living cash this winter in big update
The move comes just a week after the government's Winter Fuel Allowance u-turn HELPING HAND Over 2.7million households to get free £150 cost of living cash this winter in big update Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MORE than 2.7 million households are set to benefit from a £150 cost-of-living benefit this winter. An additional 2.7 million households will now be eligible for the subsidy, which will apply to every billpayer on means-tested benefits. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 The new measure will apply to every billpayer on means-tested benefits Credit: Getty 3 The subsidy will apply to every billpayer on means-tested benefits Credit: Getty It will take the total number of claimants to more than six million. The expansion is the latest in a series of cost-of-living measures Sir Keir Starmer hopes will placate Labour rebels furious at welfare cuts. The PM said: 'I know families are still struggling with the cost of living, and I know the fear that comes with not being able to afford your next bill. 'I have no doubt that, like rolling out free school meals, breakfast clubs and childcare support, extending this £150 energy bills support to millions more families will make a real difference.' The new expansion to the cost-of-living measures will see 900,000 families with children and a total of 1.8 million households in fuel poverty will benefit this year. The Government has said the expansion of the Warm Homes Discount means families will be able to plan for winter knowing they will be offered support. The government has also frozen fuel duty and are increasing the minimum wage. Bill payers living in England and Wales will qualify for the discount if they receive means-tested benefits. Following Rachel Reeves' u-turn on the Winter Fuel Allowance last week everyone over the State Pension age in England and Wales with an income of, or below, £35,000 a year will benefit from a Winter Fuel Payment this year. The move comes after the chancellors disastrous attempt to axe the universal Winter Fuel Payment in July last year just weeks after entering office. Keir Starmer confirms huge winter fuel payment U-turn But fears have been raised immediately by economists that taxes will have to rise to pay for the winter fuel u-turn. The Treasury say there will be no permanent additional borrowing to pay for the move. A total of nine million pensioners are set to benefit from the payment this year. 3 Everyone over the State Pension age in England and Wales with an income of, or below, £35,000 a year will benefit Credit: Getty The Government plans to offset the expansion of the Warm Homes Discount with new efficiency savings across the energy system. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: 'Millions of families will get vital support with the cost of living this coming winter, demonstrating this government's commitment to put money in people's pockets through our Plan for Change." Part of the Plan for Change, the government hopes the expansion of the Warm Homes Discount will help to combat the cost-of-living crisis and directly benefit working families. The Government has estimated that 100,000 families in North East England, 280,000 in north West England and 270,000 in the West Midlands will receive the benefit for the first time. Meanwhile 110,000 families in Wales and 240,000 in Scotland will receive it this winter for the first time.
