Dior shows fall fashion collection in gardens of ancient Kyoto temple
KYOTO, Japan, April 15 (Reuters) - Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri showed her fall fashion collection of loose, minimalist styles in the garden of the Toji Temple in Kyoto on Tuesday night.
Models walked down a broad, pebbled path and over a footbridge, parading long overcoats and dresses in mostly sombre colours, some worn wrapped Kimono-style across the chest.
There were loose trousers, wide-sleeved jackets and long, airy dresses with glittering flower patterns. Some looks were accessorized with a single earring, or a cross-body bag.
The French fashion house worked with local specialists, including traditional Japanese textile company Tatsumura Textile Co., for the designs, which drew on 15th and 16th century styles.
"We made several different prototypes, and from those, the final version was selected for production," Iku Tatsumura, president of the Kyoto-based company told Reuters.
A silver-based fabric was made less shiny to give it a more modern look, while navy garments were lightened with tones of gray, he said.
"Altogether, the whole process took about a year.'
LVMH-owned (LVMH.PA), opens new tab Dior's ties to Japan, where it has held exhibits and fashion shows and dressed royals, date back to its founder, Christian Dior, who in 1957 designed coats to fit over the shape of the Kimono.
For the finale, models lined up in front of the pagoda-style temple that was founded in 796, as Chiuri, who joined Dior in 2016, walked out for her bow, pausing for a quick nod to the audience.

Paige compares a pack of 60 Tesco-owned nappies (which she refers to as diapers) for £6.50, while a more premium band costs £5.50 for a 44-pack. In the US, a 56-pack of Huggies Little Movers nappies at Walmart costs $28.22 (which works out at around £20.71). "Like that is so cheap," she added. "Just a single pack of wipes is 55p." Again, in the US a similar product costs around $3 (£2.22) which is more than four times the price. "Now we're going to go to the baby formula because this will actually blow your mind," Paige said, pointing to a large tub of Kendamil formula. "This brand in America I think is like $35 and here it's £12..." "Now I'm going to show you like toddler snacks, pouches, and all that stuff. Snoop Dogg says emotional goodbye to beloved family member after tragedy
Snoop Dogg, who won an American Music Award for Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and a Primetime Emmy Award more recently, shared two videos on Instagram, writing he misses his French bulldog Juelz Snoop Dogg's beloved dog - given to him as a birthday gift from Wiz Khalifa - has died. The rapper expressed his sadness in two Instagram videos following the loss of French bulldog Juelz. Wiz Khalifa gave his friend the pooch in 2014 as a present for his 43rd birthday. But in a video yesterday, Snoop, now 53, told the fans the upsetting news. Sitting in the front seat of his car, soundtracked by Weldon Irvine's Morning Sunrise, the hip hop legend shared his grief. Kanye West appears at federal courthouse to support Diddy

Today, U.S. government prosecutors called two witnesses in an apparent attempt to add texture to their portrait of Diddy's drug-fueled 'freak offs' and his lifestyle as the head of an alleged criminal conspiracy. Here's what you need to know: Andre LeMon, a Department of Homeland Security investigator who led the search of Diddy's vast home in Los Angeles last year, said agents found 900 bottles of Astroglide lubricant, 200 bottles of baby oil and a cache of weapons, including AR-15-style firearms, Smith & Wesson rifles and a Ruger rifle. Jonathan Perez, one of Diddy's former personal assistants, recounted finding a video recording of a 'freak off' featuring Diddy's ex-girlfriend 'Jane' on a company iPad. Perez said Diddy kept cash, cocaine, ketamine, Adderall, Xanax and molly in a Gucci pouch — a must-have for the 'king nights' the defendant spent in hotels with women. The scene was wild, with reporters running for the elevators or sprinting across the outdoor promenade to get a closer look. Ye's appearance was notable partly because so few high-profile celebrities have publicly aligned themselves with Diddy since he came under federal investigation. However, Ye didn't enter the courtroom. He left the building after about 30 minutes, following a brief stop in the overflow area. In other news: Maurene Comey, one of the prosecutors, complained to the judge that Diddy was 'nodding emphatically' as his ex-girlfriend Jane and the Homeland Security agent testified. Steel pushed back, saying his client has been 'nothing but professional.' Subramanian, who scolded Diddy's team last week after the rapper apparently made facial expressions at jurors, told Comey it would be 'impossible to police' everyone in the courtroom but made clear 'we will keep an eye out' for any inappropriate behavior. Diddy appeared to be experiencing sinus congestion today, grabbing tissues and blowing his nose audibly on a few occasions. He appeared engaged in the proceedings, seeming to listen closely to the federal agent's testimony and regularly passing sticky notes to his attorneys. 👨⚖️ Analysis: The character question By Danny Cevallos One thing federal prosecutors are really good at is finding a way to bring in evidence that has little to do with the alleged crimes, but makes the defendant look really bad. We've heard a lot of testimony about Diddy's girlfriends finding out about his apparent romantic trips with other women. We've heard about Combs getting caught going to the Caribbean with another woman. More recently, Jane and Perez testified about Jane finding out Diddy took another woman on a trip to Wyoming. Diddy cheating on his girlfriends has virtually nothing to do with sex trafficking or racketeering. It shows how assistants helped cover up and facilitate Diddy's lifestyle. But the cheating? Not really essential to any element of a crime. Instead, there's one piece of evidence that the prosecution wants to introduce but is largely prohibited from doing so: his bad character. Evidence of a defendant's lousy morality is usually inadmissible because it's unfair. We don't want juries convicting defendants because they are bad people. We want juries to convict defendants because they are guilty of that particular crime. Evidence of bad character is just too powerful: It's hard for us to give anyone — let alone a criminal defendant — a fair chance after we've heard they've done terrible things. Prosecutors know this. That's why they try to find ways to crowbar this kind of evidence into the case (lawfully, of course). The prosecution is expected to rest its case sometime next week.
