KYOTO, Japan, April 15 (Reuters) - Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri showed her fall fashion collection of loose, minimalist styles in the garden of the Toji Temple in Kyoto on Tuesday night.
Models walked down a broad, pebbled path and over a footbridge, parading long overcoats and dresses in mostly sombre colours, some worn wrapped Kimono-style across the chest.
There were loose trousers, wide-sleeved jackets and long, airy dresses with glittering flower patterns. Some looks were accessorized with a single earring, or a cross-body bag.
The French fashion house worked with local specialists, including traditional Japanese textile company Tatsumura Textile Co., for the designs, which drew on 15th and 16th century styles.
"We made several different prototypes, and from those, the final version was selected for production," Iku Tatsumura, president of the Kyoto-based company told Reuters.
A silver-based fabric was made less shiny to give it a more modern look, while navy garments were lightened with tones of gray, he said.
"Altogether, the whole process took about a year.'
LVMH-owned (LVMH.PA), opens new tab Dior's ties to Japan, where it has held exhibits and fashion shows and dressed royals, date back to its founder, Christian Dior, who in 1957 designed coats to fit over the shape of the Kimono.
For the finale, models lined up in front of the pagoda-style temple that was founded in 796, as Chiuri, who joined Dior in 2016, walked out for her bow, pausing for a quick nod to the audience.

American 'mind blown' over key difference after visiting Tesco store in UK
American mum Paige Wester, who is now living in England, has gone viral after demonstrating just how different the US and UK are when it comes to certain supermarket items An American mum residing in the UK was left utterly baffled after comparing a Tesco store to supermarkets in the US. Across the pond, you'll find super-sized bottles of milk, an insane range of crisp (or should we say chips?!) flavours - and even entire aisles dedicated to ranch dressing. For us Brits, roaming around a Walmart and stacking up on never-seen-before sweets and chocolates is actually pretty fun, and perhaps it's the same for Americans shopping at Tesco or Sainbsury's for the first-ever time. Paige Wester, who is a mum to a toddler and expecting her second child, recently took to TikTok to reveal one key difference she spotted in supermarkets since arriving in England. And no, it isn't Yorkshire Tea... READ MORE: Martin Lewis MSE names 5 major banks paying bonus over £175 including Nationwide "I will never get over how inexpensive baby items are here," the mum said in the now-viral video. "Let me just show you how cheap baby products actually are." Paige compares a pack of 60 Tesco-owned nappies (which she refers to as diapers) for £6.50, while a more premium band costs £5.50 for a 44-pack. In the US, a 56-pack of Huggies Little Movers nappies at Walmart costs $28.22 (which works out at around £20.71). "Like that is so cheap," she added. "Just a single pack of wipes is 55p." Again, in the US a similar product costs around $3 (£2.22) which is more than four times the price. "Now we're going to go to the baby formula because this will actually blow your mind," Paige said, pointing to a large tub of Kendamil formula. "This brand in America I think is like $35 and here it's £12..." "Now I'm going to show you like toddler snacks, pouches, and all that stuff. I love this Ella's Kitchen brand and for just one pouch it's £1.30. Baby food is just 80p per jar. Let me preface this with the fact that I'm in Tesco right now, which is very similar to an American grocery store - but you can definitely get all of these baby items a lot cheaper somewhere else if you wanted." Lastly, the mum hailed how children's medicine is 'super cheap' in the UK compared to across the pond. "Calpol is only £3.15," she said. "Obviously some of the 'boujier' brands are a little bit more expensive but it's not bad. A baby should not break the bank - period!" "I just moved here with my British hubby to start a family and just know this was the right decision - it feels so validating," one person hailed. Another agreed, commenting: "As a Brit I honestly almost cried when I ran out of nappies on my last day in the USA and had to buy them," while a third added: "I couldn't believe when I went to Target and saw a tub of Kendamil was $30." However, many viewers rightfully pointed out that average salaries in the US tend to be higher than in the UK. According to reports, the median weekly earnings of the nation's 122.1 million full-time wage and salary workers in the US was $1,118 in the third quarter of 2023. In the UK, this was just £682. Snoop Dogg says emotional goodbye to beloved family member after tragedy
Snoop Dogg, who won an American Music Award for Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and a Primetime Emmy Award more recently, shared two videos on Instagram, writing he misses his French bulldog Juelz Snoop Dogg's beloved dog - given to him as a birthday gift from Wiz Khalifa - has died. The rapper expressed his sadness in two Instagram videos following the loss of French bulldog Juelz. Wiz Khalifa gave his friend the pooch in 2014 as a present for his 43rd birthday. But in a video yesterday, Snoop, now 53, told the fans the upsetting news. Sitting in the front seat of his car, soundtracked by Weldon Irvine's Morning Sunrise, the hip hop legend shared his grief. The father of four, from Long Beach, California, wrote: "Rip @juelzbroadus [crying emoji]Thank wiz for giving him to me.(sic)" The rapper then shared a second video, which featured a montage of Juelz with Snoop and his family and friends over the years, with Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's See You Again playing over the top. He wrote: "Miss my dogg @juelzbroadus (sic)" 'Pocket bully' dog overpowers pensioner as armed police rush to fatal attack Juelz had his own Instagram account, which had thousands of followers and documented his adventures with his famous owner over the years. Meanwhile, Snoop - who has another French bulldog, Frank - recently admitted he is keen to open a food stall at Celtic Park, the Scottish home of his favourite soccer side Celtic. He told Scotland's Sunday Mail, which is our sister title: 'There has always been the opinion that food at sports stadiums is never good but that ain't got to be the case. 'People know that Snoop is a cook and I would love to bring a pop up burger to a sports stadium to show fans that food at stadiums can be good. It's got to be Celtic Park man, I mean where else am I going to bring it. "The secret to a good burger is the love in the preparation. The ground beef has got to be mixed with some secret spices, then add a good quality cheese and some maple cured bacon. The Celtic fans are gonna love it, and to make sure they are just right, Snoop is going to be serving them himself.' But Snoop has no interest in offering his food to Celtic's great rivals rangers. He said: "Am I going to bring my burgers to Rangers as well? Nah, I think we will give that a miss!' Snoop revealed back in 2012 that he wanted to buy shares in Celtic after watching the Parkhead side beat Barcelona in the Champions League in November that year. At the time he said: "I got a lot of interest in soccer. It's not a new thing for hip hop stars to invest in sports teams but it is a new thing for hip hop stars to invest in soccer teams...I see how passionate Celtic fans are about their team and I could see myself making an investment if any of the board wanted to sell...I want to bring a bit of Snoop to things."

Kanye West appears at federal courthouse to support Diddy
This is a free article for Diddy on Trial newsletter subscribers. to get exclusive reporting and analysis throughout Sean Combs' federal trial. Today, U.S. government prosecutors called two witnesses in an apparent attempt to add texture to their portrait of Diddy's drug-fueled 'freak offs' and his lifestyle as the head of an alleged criminal conspiracy. Here's what you need to know: Andre LeMon, a Department of Homeland Security investigator who led the search of Diddy's vast home in Los Angeles last year, said agents found 900 bottles of Astroglide lubricant, 200 bottles of baby oil and a cache of weapons, including AR-15-style firearms, Smith & Wesson rifles and a Ruger rifle. Jonathan Perez, one of Diddy's former personal assistants, recounted finding a video recording of a 'freak off' featuring Diddy's ex-girlfriend 'Jane' on a company iPad. Perez said Diddy kept cash, cocaine, ketamine, Adderall, Xanax and molly in a Gucci pouch — a must-have for the 'king nights' the defendant spent in hotels with women. Perez, under cross-examination from defense lawyerBrian Steel, said Jane appeared to be a willing participant in 'king nights.' Perez agreed with Steel that those nights took place on Diddy's personal time, outside of work — complicating the U.S. government's allegation that the defendant used professional resources to run a criminal enterprise. ALSO: Juror #6 could be dismissed from the panel after he allegedly gave conflicting answers about where he lives. Judge Arun Subramanian is going to make a decision next week on whether to remove and replace the juror in question. — Daniel Arkin, national reporter 🔎 The view from inside By Adam Reiss, Chloe Melas, Katherine Koretski and Jing Feng Ye, the controversial hip-hop artist formerly known as Kanye West, arrived at the courthouse today in an apparent show of support for Diddy. The scene was wild, with reporters running for the elevators or sprinting across the outdoor promenade to get a closer look. Ye's appearance was notable partly because so few high-profile celebrities have publicly aligned themselves with Diddy since he came under federal investigation. However, Ye didn't enter the courtroom. He left the building after about 30 minutes, following a brief stop in the overflow area. In other news: Maurene Comey, one of the prosecutors, complained to the judge that Diddy was 'nodding emphatically' as his ex-girlfriend Jane and the Homeland Security agent testified. Steel pushed back, saying his client has been 'nothing but professional.' Subramanian, who scolded Diddy's team last week after the rapper apparently made facial expressions at jurors, told Comey it would be 'impossible to police' everyone in the courtroom but made clear 'we will keep an eye out' for any inappropriate behavior. Diddy appeared to be experiencing sinus congestion today, grabbing tissues and blowing his nose audibly on a few occasions. He appeared engaged in the proceedings, seeming to listen closely to the federal agent's testimony and regularly passing sticky notes to his attorneys. 👨⚖️ Analysis: The character question By Danny Cevallos One thing federal prosecutors are really good at is finding a way to bring in evidence that has little to do with the alleged crimes, but makes the defendant look really bad. We've heard a lot of testimony about Diddy's girlfriends finding out about his apparent romantic trips with other women. We've heard about Combs getting caught going to the Caribbean with another woman. More recently, Jane and Perez testified about Jane finding out Diddy took another woman on a trip to Wyoming. Diddy cheating on his girlfriends has virtually nothing to do with sex trafficking or racketeering. It shows how assistants helped cover up and facilitate Diddy's lifestyle. But the cheating? Not really essential to any element of a crime. Instead, there's one piece of evidence that the prosecution wants to introduce but is largely prohibited from doing so: his bad character. Evidence of a defendant's lousy morality is usually inadmissible because it's unfair. We don't want juries convicting defendants because they are bad people. We want juries to convict defendants because they are guilty of that particular crime. Evidence of bad character is just too powerful: It's hard for us to give anyone — let alone a criminal defendant — a fair chance after we've heard they've done terrible things. Prosecutors know this. That's why they try to find ways to crowbar this kind of evidence into the case (lawfully, of course). The prosecution is expected to rest its case sometime next week. PSA: Every night during Diddy's trial, NBC's 'Dateline' will drop special episodes of the 'True Crime Weekly' podcast to get you up to speed. 'Dateline' correspondent Andrea Canning chats with NBC News' Chloe Melas and special guests — right in front of the courthouse. Listen here.
