Brit arrested over £110,000 'fake wedding involving child bride' at Disneyland

A man believed to be British has been arrested in France after allegedly staging a mock wedding with a nine-year-old girl at Disneyland Paris.
The theme park was booked out at a cost of €130,000 (£110,000) for several hours before regular opening time on Saturday.
Local media reports suggest the suspect, who is 22, told managers he was an Irishman living in Germany who wanted to have his wedding at the site.
The event initially went ahead as planned but staff called police after realising the so-called bride, who was wearing a wedding dress, was clearly a child.
Appearing 'scared and confused', she was wearing five-inch stilettos taped to her feet, which left her unable to walk on her own, according to local newspaper Le Parisien.
Local prosecutors said it turned out the guests 'were all actors' and that the event was being filmed, with 'around 100 extras' hired for the stunt.'

The girl, who is Ukrainian, was accompanied by her 41-year-old mother, who was also arrested along with a 54-year-old Latvian man pretending to be the child's father.
The mother reportedly told detectives the 'wedding' had been organised so her daughter could 'live like a princess' for a day, which would be immortalised in film footage and photos.
She insisted the so-called 'groom' was just a friend of hers.
The Brit, who police reportedly believe organised the stunt, said under questioning that he was a director of a film company who'd hired the location for a shoot.
Police also arrested a 24-year-old Latvian woman who appeared to be acting as the 'wedding planner', though they said they believe the British suspect organised the stunt.
Local prosecutors say medical checks were carried out to confirm that the girl had not suffered any violence or physical restraint.
Her mother and fake 'father' have been released from custody.
But the 'groom' and 'wedding planner' have had their detention extended 'on charges of fraud and money laundering', Le Parisien added.
Disneyland Paris told French radio station France Inter: 'A private event booked at our destination was immediately cancelled by our staff after irregularities were identified. Police were called and arrived quickly.'
The company said it was cooperating with authorities and had filed its own legal complaint.

New York's No.1 attraction on TripAdvisor has opened in the UK – and I was one of the first to visit
The attraction has been designed by ex-British Intelligence staff I SPY New York's No.1 attraction on TripAdvisor has opened in the UK – and I was one of the first to visit 'YOU'D make a great surveillance officer. Have you ever considered joining the FBI?' It's not every day you hear those words. But then again, this isn't your average day out. 10 SPYGAMES test your physical abilities and spy stealth Credit: Jenna Stevens I was deep inside SPYSCAPE, a new immersive experience in London's Covent Garden. Advertisement First opening in New York, it is one of the top ranked attractions in the city and if you've ever fancied yourself the next Bond or Black Widow, this place is your training ground. Designed with help from ex-British Intelligence and leading psychologists, SPYSCAPE (and its adrenaline-pumping sibling, SPYGAMES) makes for an all-round exhilarating physical and mental challenge. It's part team games, part personality test, part sweaty workout. Whilst SPYGAMES tests your reflexes in physical team challenges, SPYSCAPE analyses your mind, assigning you the spy role that best suits you. Advertisement By the end of the afternoon, I'd walk away with my own personalised spy profile - revealing exactly what kind of secret agent I'd make. I kicked off my mission with SPYGAMES, where teams of 2-5 people battle it out across a range of heart-racing physical and mind-bending challenges. After strapping on my interactive wristband and creating my spy avatar (a cute cartoon version of me), my partner and I joined forces to create our gaming squad. As we headed down the corridor illuminated by neon lights, what followed was a series of physical challenges that burned enough energy to have me ditching the evening gym sesh. Advertisement Our first task? Cipher Sequence - a frantic code-cracking game that tests your speed and foresight. Indoor UK attraction is the 'world's first amazement park' with adult-ony nights 10 Precision, foresight, accuracy - all key skills for a secret agent Credit: Jenna Stevens Glowing squares illuminated beneath our feet - the task was to eliminate all squares by strategically jumping on them in the right order. My speed and response time were my best skills, but it turns out I'm more stealth than strategist. My foresight cracked under time pressure, and let's just say my score didn't make the leaderboards… Advertisement But I soon bounced back with Peak Protocol. This was a full-body stealth and agility test that had me scaling walls like Tom Cruise clinging to the Burj Khalifa (give or take a few thousand feet). 10 You may not be high-up, but holding on is harder than it looks... Credit: Jenna Stevens Chasing my teammate around the climbing wall like a Mission Impossible montage, my climbing skills came in handy for this task. I racked up a whopping 14,552 points and landed in the top 12 per cent of players. Not bad for a desk jockey. Advertisement Having discovered physical tasks were my secret strength, I may or may not have convinced my teammate to take me on in a 1v1 speed race. Stealth Matrix was the most cinematic game yet - a full on laser-dodging mission that made me forget who I really was and go full spy-mode. Stood at one end of a pitch-black room, suddenly neon green lasers crisscrossed the space like something out of Entrapment. 10 Super stealth - dodging these laser beams was a-near impossible mission Credit: Jenna Stevens I charged in with confidence, but my long legs betrayed me. Advertisement One wrong step and I triggered a sneaky laser pointed at my ankle, blowing my cover in seconds. But after slaying the physical tasks with stealth, it was time to get my brain analysed. We moved from SPYGAMES into SPYSCAPE - an interactive Spy museum that analyses your spy-chology as you wind your way through its rooms. 10 The spy-themed museum was fascinating Credit: Jenna Stevens You begin by answering a series of questions and puzzles that quiz you on everything from social skills, to how risky you are. Advertisement The questions were designed with the help of British Intelligence's former Head of Training, as well as top psychologists - so your secret agent skills are assessed with some serious precision. I then jumped into a secret booth that tested my lie-detecting skills. Closely watching video interviews, I had to decide if the individual was telling the truth or a lie. 10 Top tips for spotting a liar - this behaviour can be a dead giveaway Credit: Jenna Stevens After scoring top marks, a voice boomed over me 'Ever thought about joining the FBI?'. Yes, mysterious speaker voice, quite frankly I have wondered. Advertisement After walking through displays of real-life spy stories and tales of code-cracking breakthroughs, I faced my next task. Receiving instructions over a telephone, I conducted surveillance over a series of cameras. Sharp observation is key to becoming a successful spy, after all. 10 I received careful instructions over the telephone Credit: Jenna Stevens 10 I was confident in the camera surveillance task! Credit: Jenna Stevens Advertisement Finally, I entered the last room to receive my complete spy profile. My every move had been tracked, my skills observed, my answers analysed. And now, the results were in… I was an AGENT HANDLER - somebody who runs, manages and oversees agents. So basically the spy of all spies - pretty cool, if I do say so myself. My top skills were balance, foresight and precision - I guess it's time I start climbing those buildings... 10 Agent Handlers are composed, curious and empathetic Credit: Jenna Stevens Advertisement Tickets for the SPYSCAPE experience are £23 per adult and £20 for kids. SPYGAMES costs the same for 50 minutes of gameplay instead. Or you can combine both experiences, like I did, for £35 per person.

Our celeb-packed hotspot is now ghost town with just one shoe shop – tourists used to flock here but it's unrecognisable
The town has been described as "dead" and that its vibrancy has gone DOWN TOWN Our celeb-packed hotspot is now ghost town with just one shoe shop – tourists used to flock here but it's unrecognisable ONCE a celebrity-packed hotspot, residents have now described their home as a ghost town with just one shoe shop. Tourists used to flock there but the town is now unrecognisable following the pandemic. 5 Once a celebrity-packed hotspot, residents have now described their home as a ghost town with just one shoe shop Credit: Alamy 5 Newsagent Sangita Patel reckons she takes half what she did when tourists flocked to the town 5 Salon owner Camille Perry and fiancee Zack would do 'blow dry after blow dry' at Towie's height Brentwood, which is close to London and the M25, has become less attractive to visitors post-pandemic, leading residents to describe the town as 'dead'. Emma Louise-Brookes, who runs The Dressing Room Brentwood, a boutique bikini shop, has explained that the high street has been hit hard by the pandemic. She has noticed severe drops in footfall as rising rent and rates leave numerous shops vacant reported Essex Live. She said: "Footfall has dropped dramatically, no one is coming to Brentwood, and small independent shops like mine are really struggling." Local resident Simon Cross agrees that Brentwood's decline has seen an increase since COVID-19 struck. He explained: "Brentwood is still a pleasant place to live, but it's missing the vibrancy it once had." Simon added that Brentwood used to be bustling due to the fame brought by The Only Way is Essex. He said: "Tourists used to flock here, and the High Street was thriving! But now, that buzz is gone." Sangita Patel, owner of Newstime newsagents with husband Prajay since 2010, says Brentwood became a ghost town when Towie fans stopped coming. Agreeing with those thoughts, Gene Gravell noted that Brentwood remains a lovely town but it has lost much of its commercial diversity, which she misses. Our posh village is now ghost town strewn with empty homes She explained: "We've only got one shoe shop, and all the quirky independent shops are gone. "I think six businesses opened in the High Street in the past six months, but they were all restaurants, and I don't think we need more eateries - we need more diverse shops." In a public Facebook group other residents echoed these concerns when a new café recently announced its opening. One poster said: "No more cafes. We need shops to help the residents and visitors." Why are retailers closing stores? RETAILERS have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis. High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many high street shops have struggled to keep going. However, additional costs have added further pain to an already struggling sector. The British Retail Consortium has predicted that the Treasury's hike to employer NICs from April will cost the retail sector £2.3billion. At the same time, the minimum wage will rise to £12.21 an hour from April, and the minimum wage for people aged 18-20 will rise to £10 an hour, an increase of £1.40. The Centre for Retail Research (CRR) has also warned that around 17,350 retail sites are expected to shut down this year. It comes on the back of a tough 2024 when 13,000 shops closed their doors for good, already a 28% increase on the previous year. Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the CRR said: "The results for 2024 show that although the outcomes for store closures overall were not as poor as in either 2020 or 2022, they are still disconcerting, with worse set to come in 2025." It comes after almost 170,000 retail workers lost their jobs in 2024. End-of-year figures compiled by the Centre for Retail Research showed the number of job losses spiked amid the collapse of major chains such as Homebase and Ted Baker. It said its latest analysis showed that a total of 169,395 retail jobs were lost in the 2024 calendar year to date. This was up 49,990 – an increase of 41.9% – compared with 2023. It is the highest annual reading since more than 200,000 jobs were lost in 2020 in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced retailers to shut their stores during lockdowns. The centre said 38 major retailers went into administration in 2024, including household names such as Lloyds Pharmacy, Homebase, The Body Shop, Carpetright and Ted Baker. Around a third of all retail job losses in 2024, 33% or 55,914 in total, resulted from administrations. Experts have said small high street shops could face a particularly challenging 2025 because of Budget tax and wage changes. Professor Bamfield has warned of a bleak outlook for 2025, predicting that as many as 202,000 jobs could be lost in the sector. "By increasing both the costs of running stores and the costs on each consumer's household it is highly likely that we will see retail job losses eclipse the height of the pandemic in 2020." Another remarked: "How about some clothes shops. Brentwood high street used to be lovely." While a third added: "What about shoe's and clothes??? No more bloody food places." One resident is concerned about the town's increasing population due to ongoing housing developments. She explained: "When I first arrived, there was a lot of greenery, but now, a lot of the green land is being sold off for houses, so I think Brentwood is becoming overpopulated." Other residents had concerns about safety issues which they believed were on the rise in the town. Simon shared: "It doesn't feel as safe as it once did, but I still live here because the location is ideal for commuting to London." Hasan Ellis said: "I've only been here a year, and I was jumped by two boys just outside a pub, two weeks ago." However, Brentwood remains a good choice for community living among other residents. Angel Fofana explained the local diversity and friendliness was important and said: "The diversity and friendliness of the people make this a wonderful place to live. "I love the culture here, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it a great place to raise children." Agreeing, Kate Goddard said: "We could use more shops, but overall, it's a nice, safe area, and everyone here is very friendly." In June 2023, Brentwood, Shenfield and Ingatestone businesses voted to create a unique Business Improvement District (BID) that secured a significant £2m to be spent on improving High Streets over a five-year term. The Brentwood Connected BID was the first in the UK to incorporate three high streets in one Business Improvement District. Brentwood Borough council supported this with free Sunday parking and discounted parking all week in the multi-storey car park. They are also beginning a programme of audit and investment into community infrastructure such as street signs, benches and bins to enhance our High Streets and the entire local community. The Sun has contacted Brentwood Borough Council for any response. 5 Amy Childs had a salon in the town before shutting up shop

Now, it has been confirmed that it will be back for a second series after becoming Paramount+'s second biggest show ever - just trailing behind Landman. The streamer revealed that the show had been viewed 26 million times globally in the 70 days since its premiere. Confirming the second series, Chris McCarthy, one of Paramount Global's three CEOs and president of MTV Entertainment said: 'With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph — driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen. 'We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the UK.' In MobLand, Pierce takes the role of Irishman Conrad Hannigan, whose wife Maeve is played by Helen. The pair head up a criminal family in London. The tenth episode of the gangster show faced backlash over Pierce Brosnan's Irish accent - with some critics calling for it to be axed. However, a dramatic end involving Tom Hardy's character Harry appears to have got viewers hooked on the idea of more episodes - something which has now been confirmed as a reality. In a shock move, Harry's loyal wife Jan stabbed him in the chest in a fit of rage while chopping carrots in the kitchen. Pierce Brosnan's wife Keely shows off weight loss transformation as they join the cast of MobLand on the red carpet Fans think this cliffhanger ending proves why the show must return - to find out whether he survives. Sharing various thoughts on how series two will play out, one said: "I saw a post about the ending being bad and Harry getting stabbed being a way for Tom Hardy to leave, but I feel like what followed after the stabbing was kind of a wink that nothing is going to happen to him. "Harry is definitely the cherry on top of the cake and the showrunners are not oblivious to that. "If the show has a season 2, Harry will be in there and he would've survived." Someone else added: "After enjoying the S1 finale, it appears we have our new antagonists to go up against Harry and Kevin: Kat and Eddie in series two. "Eddie is more f****d up than we thought! Choking your own mother to death is pretty heinous."
