I Kissed A Girl singer Jill Sobule dies in house fire
Jill Sobule has died following a house fire.
The 66-year-old singer - best known for her hit singles 'I Kissed A Girl' and 'Supermodel - passed away on Thursday (01.05.25) following a blaze at a property in Minneapolis. The cause of the fire has yet to be revealed by officials have reportedly launched an investigation.
Jill's manager, John Porter, told Variety in a statement: "Jill Sobule was a force of nature and human rights advocate whose music is woven into our culture.
"I was having so much fun working with her. I lost a client and a friend today. I hope her music, memory and legacy continue to live on and inspire others."
The star's attorney, Ken Hertz, added: "Jill wasn't just a client. She was family to us. She showed up for every birth, every birthday, and every holiday.
"She performed at our daughter's wedding, and I was her 'tech' when she performed by Zoom from our living room (while living with us) during the pandemic."
The singer had been due to perform at Swallow Hill Music's Tuft Theater in Denver, Colorado on Friday night (02.05.25) with her show 'Jill Sobule presents: Songs From F*** 7th Grade More' and the venue released a statement confirming the concert will be replaced by a "free, informal gathering" to honour her memory.
The statement read: "We are terribly saddened to share the news that Jill Sobule passed away yesterday.
"Jill was a beloved member of the Swallow Hill community, and we know she will be sorely missed. Instead of the concert that was planned for tomorrow night, we will host a free, informal gathering in Jill's honor at Swallow Hill, from 7:30 – 9:00PM. All are welcome to attend.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to all who knew her, and all who were moved, inspired, and entertained by her wonderful songs."
Jill released her debut album 'Things Here Are Different' in 1990 and she later shot to fame when her single 'I Kissed a Girl' stormed the charts in 1995.
Another song 'Supermodel' also became a hit after featuring on the soundtrack to 1995 film 'Clueless'.
She released eight studio albums over the years, while she also toured with toured with Richard Barone as 'The Richard and Jill Show', played with Lloyd Cole's band The Negatives, appeared in 2004 film 'Mind The Gap', contributed music to Nickelodeon show 'Unfabulous' and performed a show with Julia Sweeney called 'Jill and Julia'.
One of her most recent projects was working on an off-Broadway show called 'From F*** 7th Grade' which ran between 2022 and 2024 and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award.
She was best known for her song 'I Kissed A Girl' and she later criticised pop star Katy Perry, who released another track with the same name in 2008.
However, Jill later insisted she had no ill feelings towards the singer for using the same song title.
In a piece written for the Huffington Post, Jill explained: "I may be a touch cynical about the business, but I have never really been angry or had ill feelings towards Katy herself.
"I was actually in a small way happy to not be the 'Kissed a Girl' girl anymore ... [I hope her fans are] okay with the title of my brand new song, 'I Kissed a Girl ...First' ... Wink."

Mia Goth has joined the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter. Levy has been working on the movie with Lucasfilm since 2022. Character and plot details remain unknown but last year, Levy said he is not planning to connect his work to any other films or TV shows in the long-running series. Speaking on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, he said: "I'll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there's only so many times that 'Star Wars' movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it's really forced me, because I don't want to do a 'Star Wars' movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie." The filmmaker - who has teamed up with his The Adam Project co-writer Tropper on the project - added he was making the flick with "tone and characters" at the forefront. He said: "I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves. "And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfilment, that's Star Wars to me."

Seth Rogen calls directing Martin Scorsese the 'worst thing in the world'
Seth Rogen has admitted directing Martin Scorsese in The Studio was the "worst thing in the world". The actor stars in and directs the Apple TV Plus series in which he plays the head of a movie studio and it's featured cameos from industry titans including Goodfellas director Scorsese, Ron Howard, Anthony Mackie, Zoe Kravitz, Olivia Wilde and Zac Efron - and Rogen has now admitted he was "nervous" working with big name stars on his project. In an interview with Jason Segel for Variety, Rogen explained: " I'd say half of them [the cameos] were people I didn't know at all. We wanted people you haven't seen us with before. "Martin Scorsese, we just sent it to his manager. I'd met Zoe Kravitz once or twice. I met a lot of these people in passing. I'm sure you have at a party." When asked if he was "intimidated" to direct people like Scorsese, Rogen replied: "It was the worst thing in the whole world. We were shooting the show in such a specific way that I was so nervous it would be creatively rejected. " In the show, his character Matt Remick is often desperate for directors and actors to like him and worries about making them angry - and Rogen admits he's a lot like Matt in many ways. He added: "The character is me in many, many ways. And the crux of the character is that he doesn't want to let down his idols. "And that's one of the biggest things that I'm navigating: Whenever I get anyone to come do a thing we're doing, I'm so aware of how upset I'll be if they think it's bad. " Segel went on to add of Scorsese: "I did meet Martin Scorsese once. I met him at the Golden Globes, and we peed next to each other at the urinals. But I had the kids' one and he had the tall one. So everything about it was just way off. That's a great memory." Rogen the added: "He's a little guy." Rogen previously admitted he's had plenty of pushback from industry pals after he used their real life experiences as inspiration for The Studio. He told Vanity Fair magazine: "I think more [often] people have not wanted to accept that we have based things off of them, rather than claiming that we have based things off of them. Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood finally address 'ridiculous' reports of White Lotus feud
Walton Goggins has confirmed there is "no feud" with Aimee Lou Wood after 'The White Lotus'. The 53-year-old actor and his co-star - who played Rick Hatchett and Chelsea on the hit HBO show - have faced claims of a rift between them after he unfollowed her on Instagram once season three of Mike White's anthology drama was finished. In a joint interview for Variety's Actor on Actor series, he said: 'There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me. 'This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be. "I'll be on an island, I think Greece. But she's special. There is no feud. She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.' "I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea. 'And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, this is what I've gotta do. And she was extremely supportive about that.' He "needed to just back away from everyone", noting it wasn't a case of solely ignoring Aimee. He said: "I haven't spoken to anyone. I couldn't handle it. Judge me or don't. I don't give a f*** what you think. "This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that's what I needed to do for me to process all of this.'
