More Man City matchday buses and routes announced

Yahoo13-02-2025

Extra routes are being added to the Manchester City matchday bus service, transport bosses have announced.
Dedicated buses taking City fans to the Etihad Stadium launched this time last year and are said to have proved hugely popular over the 12 months.
Transport for Greater Manchester said several of the routes were now at capacity - with 20 new stops having been added since the launch.

TfGM has announced five extra buses will be added to five of the busiest routes, while three more new stops will be added at the Trafford Centre, Horwich and Rochdale. It takes the total number of buses for weekend matchdays to 20 and the number of locations served in total to 82.
A TfGM spokesperson said: "These changes have allowed the creation of five additional routes that will operate for weekend fixtures only, there is currently sufficient capacity for midweek games. The extended network will be in place for the Newcastle game on Saturday (15 February) and continue for all men's weekend games this season.
"Regular feedback from fans has been used to shape the matchday network since its launch, demonstrating the responsiveness and accountability of services under a locally controlled network."
The five new routes are:
MC8X: Macclesfield - Tytherington - Poynton - Bramhall - Etihad Stadium
MC9X: Flixton – Urmston – Trafford Centre – Etihad Stadium
MC11X: Horwich – Tyldesley – Boothstown – Wardley (A580 PnR) – Etihad Stadium
MC13X: Shaw – Royton – Hollinwood – Etihad Stadium
MC15X: Rochdale – Castleton – Middleton – Etihad Stadium
Data shows City fans have made 22,000 trips on the matchday buses since the launch. An average of around 700 supporters per game have used the service.
Steve Gilholme, head of service delivery at TfGM, said the service has won an industry award.
He said: "The Manchester City Matchday Bus Network has proven a real hit with City fans and is a great example of what we're trying to achieve with the Bee Network – demonstrating that if you provide people with reliable, affordable and safe public transport options they will use them.
"I am pleased we're growing the weekend matchday network, with more buses on the busiest routes, new stops added by fans' request at Rochdale, Horwich and the Trafford Centre."
Pete Bradshaw, Manchester City's director of sustainability, said: "We are delighted to be expanding our award-winning Matchday Bus Network to help even more fans travel to and from the Etihad Stadium.
"The latest additions, driven by substantial demand on certain routes, demonstrate that the service is working, and has created an enjoyable and efficient travel option for thousands of fans on a matchday. The benefit? Fewer cars on the road, with more fans opting for an increasingly sustainable mode of travel on a matchday."

Real Madrid Star Rodrygo Makes Decision On Future

Real Madrid star Rodrygo appears to have made a decision on his future amid the arrival of new head coach Xabi Alonso. The Brazilian, who landed in the Spanish capital from Santos upon turning 18 in 2019, didn't end the 2024/2025 season in the best of fashions as his club went without major silverware. As Rodrygo lost his place in the starting line up to Arda Guler, Radio MARCA reported that he didn't want to play for Los Blancos again. When Guler started El Clasico, and then-manager Carlo Ancelotti brought on Victor Munoz instead of Rodrygo as Madrid looked to equalize FC Barcelona in an 4-3 loss that pretty much saw the visitors cede the La Liga title in Montjuic, it seemed like the end was night for the number 11. Recent weeks have seen him linked with a potential transfer to Arsenal, while there have been constant rumors of becoming a protagonist on Manchester City's frontline ever since Madrid fans blasted him for praising Pep Guardiola's team in a poorly thought out interview in 2024. Though there doesn't seem to have been a fallout between Ancelotti and Rodrygo, the Italian taking up the reins for the forward's national team has meant a changing of the guard in that Xabi Alonso now mans Los Blancos' dugout. A video of Alonso running instructions past Rodrygo on the training ground has already done the rounds on social media, and the player himself took to Instagram by posting pictures of himself preparing for the Club World Cup with the simple caption: 'HAPPY' SPORT reports that the 'tables have turned' for Rodrygo, who was been convinced to stay at Madrid and 'try to be important in the team' which could above all mean taking back his spot in an attacking trident completed by Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe. Ultimately, however, Rodrygo's Real Madrid future might not be in his hands. With his future already threatened by Guler, we also must consider the expected arrival of River Plater wonderkid Franco Mastantuono, who should cross the Atlantic to join Alonso's squad after the Club World Cup.

'City fans will love watching him play'

Italian football journalist Nima Tavallaey says "outstanding" new Manchester City signing Tijjani Reijnders has "incredible vision and creativity" and is a "very good signing" as the club look to rebuild after the departure of Kevin de Bruyne. The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign for AC Milan, scoring 15 goals and registering five assists in all competitions before securing a £46.3m move to Pep Guardiola's side. Advertisement "I think Tijjani Reijnders is a fantastic midfielder," Tavallaey told BBC Radio Manchester. "He's a goalscoring midfielder, a very technical midfielder. "He was probably the only shining light last season in what was essentially just darkness at AC Milan. He was outstanding. "This is a very very good signing for City who are looking to rebuild after the De Bruyne era. "Reijnders is not a physical midfielder, although he can hold his own. He is technical, very dynamic, a great finisher and has incredible vision and creativity. "Given how City play and Guardiola wants to formulate his midfield, I think he will fit in just fine." Advertisement When pushed to identify weaknesses in Reijnders' game, Tavallaey added: "He's not exactly the best at tackling, he's not a ball-winning midfielder like that. "He is very good at pressing and reading the play and if he's got players around him who can help him out with ball-winning then he will really come into his own. "Aerially is not his strongest suit either but overall I think he is a very complete midfielder. He's very creative and attack-minded and I think City fans will absolutely love watching him play." Leroy Sané in Istanbul for Galatasaray talks as Bayern contract expires

ISTANBUL (AP) — Germany winger Leroy Sané is in Turkey for talks with Galatasaray about signing as a free agent when his Bayern Munich contract expires. The Turkish league champion confirmed on social media late Wednesday that Sané had arrived in Istanbul for negotiations. Sané is set to leave Bayern when his contract expires at the end of the month after talks on a possible extension dragged on through the season without a resolution, even as Bayern reached agreements on new contracts with teammates like Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich. That will end a five-year stay with Bayern, which signed Sané in 2020 for a reported fee of just under 50 million euros (then $56.3 million) after a lengthy pursuit of the then-Manchester City player. During his time in Munich, he's won the Bundesliga four times, but has faced criticism in recent seasons for a perceived lack of consistency, especially in European games. Sané scored 13 times in 45 games across all competitions for Bayern this season but only one of those goals came in the Champions League. ___
