Zawya27-01-2025

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: As part of its participation in Arab Health 2025, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has announced its latest ambitious project and promising initiatives, along with its enhanced services powered by advanced technologies and smart solutions. Among these is the 'Opportunities Platform', the first-of-its-kind to advertise job vacancies within a specific sector operated by a government entity.
Dr Hisham Al Hammadi, Director of Health Licensing at the DHA, explained that the 'Opportunities Platform' is a digital gateway integrated into the Sheryan system. Through this platform, the Authority showcases all available vacancies in Dubai's healthcare sector, facilitating qualified talent to identify and secure suitable employment opportunities that meet registration requirements.
He stated that the DHA developed the 'Opportunities Platform' to manage the recruitment process electronically while providing accurate reports and statistics on the labour market and employment trends in the healthcare sector. This approach significantly aids in formulating policies and making informed decisions regarding job placements in this vital field.
Highlighting the platform's objectives, Dr Hisham Al Hammadi noted several core aims, foremost among them being the support of Emiratisation policies in the private healthcare sector and streamlining the job search and application process. The platform minimises effort for job seekers and reduces the time required for job announcements and application reviews. It also enables filtering applicants based on specific criteria such as qualifications and experience.
He added that the new platform also aims to enhance communication opportunities with healthcare institutions and support new investors in recruiting professionals through a dedicated talent pool. Additionally, it seeks to identify labour market needs, enabling the development of future strategies to address those requirements. The platform further supports efforts to attract international experts and professionals to join Dubai's healthcare ecosystem.
Benefits of the health-sector-wide Opportunities Platform
Streamlining Recruitment Processes with Advanced Digital Solutions
The 'Opportunities Platform' simplifies job searches and application processes, saving time for both job seekers and employers while providing data-driven insights into labour market trends.
Boosting Emiratisation and Attracting Global Talent
The platform supports Emiratisation in the private healthcare sector and enhances Dubai's appeal to international experts and professionals seeking opportunities in the healthcare field.
Empowering Investors and Shaping the Future of Healthcare Employment
By connecting new investors with a robust talent pool and identifying market needs, the platform enables strategic workforce planning to meet the evolving demands of Dubai's healthcare sector.

Data privacy versus convenience: The delicate digital balance

Globally, data privacy is a hot-button issue. In the UAE, the conversation is newer, but it's gaining momentum, especially as the country positions itself as a digital-first, innovation-led economy. But here's what makes the UAE unique: convenience still rules — for consumers, businesses, and even regulators. The average resident in Dubai is hyper-connected, tech-savvy, and accustomed to seamless digital experiences, from ordering groceries on noon or Talabat, to accessing medical records via the DHA app, or tapping through biometric e-gates at DXB. And yet, in that seamlessness, there's a quiet trade-off. We don't think twice before handing over our email ids at pharmacies or clinics. We link our phone numbers to every transaction. Walk into Carrefour or Home Centre, and most of us give away our mobile numbers for loyalty points or digital receipts. We do it not because we don't value privacy, but because convenience is king. The trade-off is intentional. Most residents aren't asking 'Who has my data?' they're asking 'Will this save me time?' That's not to say privacy isn't a priority here, it's just packaged differently. The UAE has made steady progress in tightening its data laws. The UAE Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), introduced under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, is a clear sign that the country is aligning with global standards like the GDPR. It mandates consent, outlines data subject rights, and sets boundaries for cross border data transfers. Free zones like DIFC and ADGM have gone a step further, creating their own data protection regimes, particularly relevant for fintechs, banks, and multinationals operating regionally. And now, the conversation is reaching advertisers and agencies, too. In a market where hyper-personalisation is the holy grail, and programmatic spends are on the rise, marketers must ask: Are we chasing efficiency at the cost of trust? The UAE consumer is evolving. What was once a laissez-faire attitude toward data is shifting. With the rise of digital banking, telemedicine, and smart government services, consumers are becoming more aware, not paranoid, but curious. They want to know: Where is my data stored? Who's using it? Can I say no? The answers will soon matter, both legally and emotionally. So what's next for brands and agencies? The winners in this region will be those who strike a thoughtful balance, who don't just ride the wave of convenience, but lead with clarity, consent, and control. Smart advertising in the UAE isn't just about knowing your audience, it's about earning their trust. In a city like Dubai, where convenience is expected, privacy is about to become a premium experience, and brands would do well to treat it that way. As the UAE advances its digital infrastructure, the era of 'frictionless everything' must evolve to include transparent, respectful data practices. Because tomorrow's consumer won't just expect seamlessness, they'll demand sovereignty over their data, too. By Huzefa Siamwala, Founder – Brand Partnerships and Media Solutions, Hikaya

UAE: Over 10,000 AC rest stations for delivery riders during peak summer

Over 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations will serve delivery service workers across the UAE throughout the peak summer period. Known as the 'Midday Break', the UAE enforces a ban on outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12.30pm to 3pm daily for three months, starting June 15. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) said Tuesday that delivery services are a 'vital logistical sector with a unique operational model', where workers are not stationed in fixed locations. Delivery service workers can access the nearest rest stations through interactive maps available on the apps.
