You won't believe just how powerful this Acer gaming laptop is
Until now, desktop PC gamers pretty much got all the fun. But thanks to the latest silicon chips, the top gaming laptops are more powerful than ever.
Such is the case with Acer's new Predator Triton 14, unveiled ahead of Computex 2025.
Acer's latest machine offers top-tier gaming performance thanks to an Intel Core Ultra 9 processor and Nvidia RTX 5070 GPU. All the while, it manages to stay both slim and lightweight, for something that won't be a chore to take on the go.
This thing doesn't just dabble in performance – it dives in headfirst. With a Calman Verified OLED display that spits out only the purest of colours and a 120Hz refresh rate, the Triton 14 AI clearly isn't just gunning for gamers. Creative pros, content creators, and anyone who appreciates not having their laptop wheeze during Photoshop sessions are also going to have a field day.
Acer's made this laptop super cool, literally. It's the first laptop using graphene thermal interface material on the CPU. Combine that with dual 6th Gen AeroBlade 3D fans and a vapour chamber, and you're in for an extremely efficient machine.
You're also getting up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory and 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage. There's haptic feedback on the Gorilla Glass touchpad, a stylus with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, and AI integrations that actually feel useful. Acer crammed in features like real-time translations and image creation tools, not just a chatbot shoved into a corner of the UI.
Also unveiled was the Predator Helios Neo 14 AI, which seems like the Triton's little brother. Still impressively specced with up to the same RTX 5070 GPU and Intel Ultra 9 processor, this one leans into gaming with a 0.2 ms response time OLED display and a punchy three-zone RGB keyboard. Think of it as the go-to for those who want premium gaming gear in a slightly more affordable, on-the-go format.
For those who still swear by desktops, the Predator Orion 3000 makes a proper entrance too. With up to an Intel Ultra 7 chip, RTX 5070 GPU, and up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, it's basically a powerhouse hiding in a glass-panelled 28-litre box.
The Predator Triton 14 will be available from July starting at €2999. The Predator Helios Neo 14 also lands in July, starting at €1699. And the Predator Orion 3000 (PO3-665) desktop arrives in (you guessed it) July from €1099. UK and US availability and pricing has yet to be unveiled.

This Samsung display tech is going to give laptops one of the biggest upgrades ever
These days, there are plenty of lightweight laptops to pick from. We're talking backpack-friendly, travel-ready, actually-use-on-your-lap-without-going-numb light. Apple's MacBook Air is one of our favourites, and Acer's latest is even lighter. But what about the next generation of featherweight computers? Samsung's newest display tech has given us an early look at a big upgrade that's in store. Samsung's UT One is a new prototype OLED panel. The 'UT' stands for ultra-thin, which is exactly what Samsung's cooked up here by swapping the usual top glass substrate for ultra-thin organic and inorganic films. UT One is 30% thinner and 30% lighter than your standard dual-glass OLED panel. The weight savings are equivalent to ditching a whole laptop battery cell (about 50g). So next-gen lightweight laptops are going to be even easier to lug around. But the real kicker? UT One doesn't just stop at losing some pounds. Samsung's crammed in support for a 1 Hz variable refresh rate – a first for OLED panels in laptops. That's the same stuff helping your smartphone save battery and enables Always-On Displays. This could mean actual battery life gains in the real world, especially when you're doing less demanding tasks. This also helps to avoid flickering at low refresh rates – possible thanks to a low leakage current. Now, don't expect to see UT One in your lightweight laptop just yet. Samsung is building out its production line in Asan, Korea, and the production isn't expected to begin until 2026. So this is more of a glimpse into the near future. Of course, Samsung is also showing off some other new display tech. Intelligent Color Technology juices up pixel saturation while dimming overall brightness to save power and Edge Luminance Profile tones down the brightness in screen corners you weren't looking at anyway. Gamers have been given some attention, too. There's a new 27-inch UHD QD-OLED monitor with a 160 PPI, plus a prototype boasting 220 PPI for the editing elite. Also on show is a QHD QD-OLED that cranks up to 500Hz. There's even a 34-inch ultra-wide model with a 360Hz refresh rate. Samsung's 2025 OLED TVs are also getting NVIDIA G-SYNC support in a free update. That means buttery-smooth gameplay with no screen tearing, with support for refresh rates up to 165Hz. It'll first be available on the S95F model, and then other 2025 OLEDs.

Acer's newest release was a total surprise – you'll never guess what it is
So far at Computex 2025, Acer has released some excellent new computing devices – as you'd expect. My favourite so far has been the lightweight Swift Edge 14 that competes with the MacBook Air. But Acer's newest release was a total surprise – a health-tracking smart ring. Yep, I'll say it again. A health-tracking smart ring. I wear the Ultrahuman Air smart ring to track my steps and sleep when I don't want to wear my Apple Watch. It looks great, works really well, and even syncs with Apple Health. And other options from Samsung and Oura are quite popular. But Acer isn't a brand I expected to make a health wearable. That said, it seems the brand has done a good job. The FreeSense ring goes for $199 and doesn't require a monthly subscription – a big tick in my book. Wrapped in a lightweight titanium alloy, the FreeSense Ring aims to blend in while monitoring everything from your heart rate and HRV to blood oxygen levels and sleep. It comes in seven sizes and weighs just 2 to 3 grams. It's water resistant up to 50 metres and, crucially, doesn't look like you've strapped a fitness tracker to your knuckle. Of course, it's not just about looking slick. The real pitch here is wellness tracking without the monthly wallet drain. Unlike Oura, Acer isn't asking for a subscription to access the good stuff. That includes AI-driven insights via the companion app, which will analyse your vitals and spit out lifestyle advice. Whether these insights actually help you live better or just guilt-trip you into going to bed earlier remains to be seen. Battery life is pegged at four days, which, let's be honest, isn't exactly brag-worthy compared to some of the competition, but still nothing to be sniffed at. And there's a whiff of possibility that Acer might integrate the ring into its wider ecosystem in the future. Imagine waving your finger to pause a video on your Acer laptop or unlocking your device like a wizard. The Acer FreeSense Ring will be available from August with a price tag of $199 to $250. It comes in seven different sizes, and either matte rose gold or glossy black. As I mentioned, you don't need a subscription to access health data the ring collects.
