Daughters of the Deep group seeks to increase women representation in marine industry

Women are hugely under-represented in the marine industries workforce across the world, making up just twenty nine percent of the workforce. In the Pacific, women often only have support roles in the industry and rarely hold technical or leaderships roles.
An organisation called Daughters of the Deep is trying to change this. The not-for-profit organises education scholarships, training, and job placements to help empower women in marine industries.
"I've always felt connected, there's something peaceful about being in the water, I love marine life because it's so full of wonders," said seventeen-year-old Niuean Esthereena Tonga, a marine conservationist.
"When I heard about the program...I knew I had to be a part of it."
