So after Pet Sounds, and after the single Good Vibrations that's when it all started to go wrong for Wilson. The follow-up album - started the same year, 1966, as those landmark releases, such was the pace of creation at the time - was called Smile and was set to take the Beach Boys' music to even more ambitious heights with a concept album about American history, with a mash of high and low styles, with Wilson describing it as a 'teenage symphony to God.' By this stage he had been regularly seeking enlightenment with heavy LSD trips but also trying to capture bad trips on record, as with the track The Elements: Fire, but began to get spooked about the 'witchcraft music.' He had made everyone wear fireman's helmets during the recording and filled the studio with smoke. But when he heard a local building had burnt down, he thought it was his fault and stopped the recording.

LCD Soundsystem exited the stage for an intermission to Sly And The Family Stone's Everyday People, paying tribute after Stone died on Monday aged 82. They returned with 2007 single North American Scum. The track, which is about the band being mistaken for an English group by fans due to their popularity in the country, was the highlight of the evening, with the crowd drowning out keyboard player Nancy Whang's cheerleader backing vocals with their own. Murphy later added: 'This is the first city we played in, somehow it was 23 years ago, and some of you weren't even born.' The band's most recent singles, New Body Rhumba and X-Ray Eyes, released in 2022 and 2024 respectively, got an airing before Murphy said of the upcoming run of dates: 'This is the first of many of these, we like to play in rooms that have some character and some love in. 'Thank you all for being excellent to us.' The band then hit the crowd with a triple whammy of fan favourites in Dance Yrself Clean, New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down, and All My Friends, which saw the venue erupt with dancing. They may not have been the most popular band during the 2000s indie explosion, but as they now see their influence in upcoming artists such as The Dare and Fcukers, along with a young crowd at Thursday's gig, LCD Soundsystem may be the scene's most influential and remembered. The band played a similar residency in June 2022, and they will return to the stage on Friday, before further performances on June 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22.

Mike Love and John Stamos pay tribute to Beach Boys' Brian Wilson
Mike Love is looking back fondly on Brian Wilson, his cousin and Beach Boys collaborator who died Wednesday at 82. 'It's a tough one,' Love told The Associated Press Thursday. ' Life ends for all of us, but he had a wonderful life in terms of how creative he was, and I had a great time cocreating with him, so we have a lot to be, you know, we have a lot of blessings.' Love is being inducted Thursday night into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which welcomed Wilson in 2000. He will be introduced by actor and musician John Stamos, who has collaborated with the Beach Boys in recent years and is appearing at select dates on their tour, which resumes Friday in New York. 'I cut together a really beautiful video of Mike and Brian doing the song that Brian, Mike wrote called, 'Brian's Back.' And I'd like to show that with his permission at the front of the show," Stamos said. 'I think it'll start off, but it's gonna be very difficult, I would think emotionally to get through it.' He added of his admiration for Wilson and the band: 'Without the Beach Boys, life would be a mistake. And that's that.' 'It's in the better late than never category, but I feel my cousin's presence tonight very strongly,' Love told the AP of his inclusion in Songwriters Hall of Fame. 'You know, we did it together, and so that part's inseparable, and we always had a great love for each other. So it's really nice to be honored, though, and recognized for my contribution to the Beach Boys music.' Love and Wilson wrote the Beach Boys' first hit, 'Surfin'," in 1961. The pair feuded over songwriting credits for Love, who successfully sued, contending he was deprived songwriting credits on dozens of songs. 'This is a songwriter's songwriter,' Stamos said of Love before the ceremony: 'He painted this cinematic view of California that made the whole world wanna be us because of him. Optimism, positivity, good vibes.' Stamos added: 'Brian was a genius, but Mike was a little bit underrated because of ... you know, Brian's big genius.' Love said he enjoys witnessing the joy the Beach Boys music brings to fans on tour. 'It's wonderful because you see the audience response and people 60 years after we started are loving our music and that's really a wonderful thing. You see how much joy, not only in America but around the world, that our songs have created with people. So it's a fantastic thing,' he said,

She struck up a connection with Harry, who was originally coupled up with Sophie - who was brutally dumped from the villa on day 2. Showing off the before and after results, Harry looked completely unrecognisable with no hair. It looks like it's set to be another dramatic night for Harry tonight as he finds out Blu and Shakira shared a kiss. It's Dejon who spills the tea, as he tells his friend: 'You know he (Blu) kissed her (Shakira)?' A shocked Harry then replies: 'No he didn't…I don't believe what I'm hearing.' Harry then asks Shakira about the kiss with Blu before telling her: 'All that matters is I want to pursue things with you.'
