Women honored for saving victim being attacked at Cascade Valley Metro Park
AKRON, Ohio (WJW) – The American Red Cross of Greater Akron honored good Samaritans on Thursday night for incredible acts of heroism, and among them were three courageous women who came to the rescue of a victim being attacked in a local park.
The dramatic story began to unfold on August 12, 2024, when the three friends decided to go for a walk at Cascade Valley Metro Park in Akron and heard a woman yelling for help.
'When we came around the corner, I saw her with a man who was holding her and she was screaming and fighting, and I just kept running right down to them.' Donna McFadden, 65, told FOX 8.
McFadden told her friends, 67-year-old Susan Victor and 65-year-old Laura Rufe, to call 911 and then she confronted the man, 32-year-old Isaac Armour, who had grabbed the 33-year-old woman from behind after she came out of a park bathroom.
'He tried to say, 'oh we're together,' and you know, 'we're arguing and she's being dramatic.' I didn't believe him for one second,' McFadden said.

'Donna started yelling at him, 'let her go, let her go,' because the woman was screaming, 'don't leave, please don't leave, he's holding me,'' Victor added.
That's when McFadden took matters into her own hands.
'I was hitting him and pushing him and screaming for him to stop and he didn't, so I picked up a rock and I hit him in the head with it,' she said.
'She threatened him again with a second rock, and he was just like 'okay lady, okay,' and then he let her go,' Rufe said, continuing the story.
Armour was arrested and is now faces charges that include kidnapping and attempted rape.
The victim told investigators that the three women arrived just in time.
'She was at the point where she said she was ready to just give up because she felt no one was going to help her,' McFadden said.
'We were where we needed to be at the time she needed us. You know, and I think she even said, 'those were my three angels,'' Rufe said.
The courageous women believe it was fate or divine intervention that brought them to Cascade Valley that day.

They were planning on going to a different park but at the last minute changed their plans because they wanted to see the eagles that nest at Cascade Valley.
For their actions, McFadden, Victor and Rufe were recognized by the American Red Cross with the organization's Acts of Courage Awards.
'To do that and to not think 'gosh, I could get hurt today too,' they just did it to help another human being and it was incredible. Absolutely incredible,' said Rachel Stine, the executive director of the Red Cross Chapter of Greater Akron.

Two New Yorkers are recovering from a run-in with a sharp object they couldn't even see until it was too late — a kite string. "There was just so much blood" Jennifer Noble was entering the Marine Parkway Bridge on her bike over the weekend when she saw a kite floating in the air and suddenly ran into something she couldn't see. Noble believes the string was attached to a so-called "fight kite," where the string is a very sharp, abrasive line sometimes coated with crushed glass. "It just seems really horrifically, dangerously negligent to have this stuff out there in the world," Noble said. "It tore through me."

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Mayfield Heights police have released footage of a suspect accused of stealing more than $80,000 worth of makeup and other beauty products. Caught on camera, a suspect with sticky fingers is accused of stealing $2,200 worth of makeup from Ulta Beauty on Som Center Road on May 15. Macedonia police arrest 6 women in Kohl's thefts But that's just a fraction of what she's accused of taking. On May 15, a woman walked into the Ulta Beauty store in Mayfield Heights. She appeared to be wearing a disguise, attempting to blend in with other shoppers. But a police report filed on May 23 told a different story. Remains found in search for missing teen last seen at airport The store's general manager said the woman managed to steal more than $2,200 worth of cosmetic products. The manager told police she discovered the theft while sorting paperwork and realized her employees had not reported the incident. The suspect was identified in the report as Paula Andrea Lopez-Correa, a Virginia woman wanted in multiple states. She is accused of stealing from Ulta Beauty locations across multiple states, racking up a total of more than $81,000 in losses, according to the police report. According to the store's loss prevention team, Lopez-Correa has used a black Kia Soul in some of the thefts. The car has a Virginia license plate number TFK5214. Nationwide recall on jerky and snack sticks Police said they searched city cameras for that plate number but found no matches. As of now, Lopez-Correa remains at large. Woman killed by train while trying to save dog from New Hampshire tracks: Police
EXETER, N.H. (WJW) – A woman was killed while trying to save a dog from train tracks in New Hampshire earlier this week, law enforcement said. According to the Exeter Police Department, officers and emergency crews responded to a wooded area near Newfields Road in the town of Exeter on Monday afternoon. Train officials told police that there was a crash involving pedestrians. Through the investigation, police learned that two people were walking by the tracks and when an Amtrak train started approaching from around a corner, the dog, which was unleashed, ran onto the tracks. Climber fell about 3,000 feet from Mount McKinley; body recovered They both tried to rescue the dog but were struck by the train, Exeter police said. The woman, identified as 42-year-old Alicia Leonardi, died from her injuries. The other pedestrian, a man, suffered minor injuries in the accident, investigators said. The accident remains under investigation at this time. 'Our sincere condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Leonardi,' the police department wrote on Facebook.
