Another marquee nonconference matchup reportedly set for Alabama basketball
Another marquee nonconference game for Alabama basketball is reportedly set.
According to a report from Made For March, the Crimson Tide's matchup against the Illinois Fighting Illini in Chicago has been set for Wednesday, Nov. 19 at United Center. It's the return trip from last season's matchup on Nov. 20 at Legacy Arena in Birmingham at the C.M. Newton Classic, a game Alabama won 100-87 behind 23 points from Grant Nelson.
Alabama has already announced dates for two other marquee nonconference matchups within the past week. The Crimson Tide will take on the Arizona Wildcats at Legacy Arena on Dec. 13. On Tuesday, Alabama and Purdue announced that the back-end of their home-and-home series would take place Nov. 13 at Coleman Coliseum.
Also in the nonconference slate, Nate Oats' Crimson Tide are scheduled to host North Dakota in Tuscaloosa at an unannounced date and make another trip to Las Vegas for the Players Era Festival. Another opponent from the ACC will face Alabama in the annual SEC/ACC Challenge, which last year pitted the Crimson Tide against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.
Illinois finished 22-13 overall and went 12-8 in the Big Ten last season. Brad Underwood's Illini earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round of the Midwest Region before falling 84-75 to No. 3 seed Kentucky.
Alabama finished 28-9 (13-5 SEC) and reached the Elite Eight before falling 85-65 to No. 1 seed Duke. The Crimson Tide were ranked No. 6 in the final USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and AP poll for the 2024-25 season. Illinois was unranked in the final Top 25 polls. The Tide and Fighting Illini have met five times dating back to 1952. Alabama leads the all-time series, 4-1.

Cincinnati Bengals Wideout Jermaine Burton 'Moved On' from Last Year's Benching
Cincinnati Bengals Wideout Jermaine Burton 'Moved On' from Last Year's Benching originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cincinnati Bengals selected wideout Jermaine Burton in the third round last offseason to hopefully add a little depth behind Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase. Advertisement But the former Crimson Tide receiver's rookie season was anything but productive. Burton posted just four catches on 14 targets for 107 yards and no touchdowns. Disappointing numbers for a third-round pick for sure. His lackluster season ended early after the team benched him for the final game of the year. He wasn't even invited on the plane to Pittsburgh. Burton says that benching woke him up. 'Nobody should be happy with it,' Burton said. 'I was very disappointed, but it's something that I moved on from, and grew from, and can't wait, looking forward, really looking forward to this year.' Burton had an opportunity to think about that benching for the entire offseason thus far, and is ready to be better. Advertisement 'Sleepless nights, honestly, just sitting there thinking,' Burton said. 'I could sit there and just think about football all night. And it's just something that I love, and something that I really enjoy doing. So I want to do the best that I can to be the better player I can be. I really wish I was there, but like I said, the situation I moved on from and I really can't wait for this year.' Now, the 23-year-old is ready to improve and help his team win. 'I'm just trying my best to be the best player I can be, just coming up with better habits, better routines, and just trying to stay consistent,' Burton said. 'I learned a lot of things last year, but you really got to be a professional in this league.' Coastal Carolina sweeps Auburn to reach College World Series for 2nd time
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Jacob Morrison and Hayden Johnson combined to scatter eight hits and Coastal Carolina defeated Auburn 4-1 on Saturday to sweep the Auburn Super Regional and reach the College World Series for the second time. The Chanticleers will try to duplicate the national championship they won in 2016. Morrison allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings. Johnson (5-0) came on in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings with two hits and five strikeouts. Coastal Carolina's three-run seventh inning featured an RBI single by Walker Mitchell and a series of Auburn miscues led to the other two runs. With the scored tied 1-1 after Mitchell's single, he moved up a base on a single by Blagen Pado and scored from second on a throwing error by the first baseman on a ball hit by Ty Dooley. A walk by Ty Barrango loaded the bases and Coastal's third run scored when Wells Sykes was hit by a pitch. Mitchell drove in the final run with a single in the eighth inning. Cade Fisher (1-3) was on the mound in the sloppy seventh inning and allowed three runs, one earned, in 2 2/3 innings. Caden Bodine's 10th-inning home run early Saturday morning gave the Chanticleers a 7-6 victory in the first game. The Tigers played in the super regional round for the fifth time.
